Okay, this is all new to me. My very good friend has been using these oils and green natural products in her cleaning business she just started. She is getting a great response from people and if they seem to love it im sure i would to. I just need a little direction on the specifications of what oils to use (name of the oil) for certain cleaning abilities. I am only interested in recipes that disinfect & deoderize (not deoderize alone i want something for antibicterial or disinfectant) and recipes that can be used as an air freshiner, washer & dryer cleaner or refresher, laundry detergant and something to use in place of dryer sheets/fabric softner liquid. I need steps or an outline of some kind that lists/includes the names of oil and any additional items needed for the recipe what it cleans what type of cleaner it is and how to store it. Can anyone help me.???I need essential oils and how to use and make them for the dumbie.

    Hi Melinda,

First, cleaning with essential oils and Thieves Household Cleaner is super easy and will address all of your concerns: odor, disinfect, sanitize, antibacterial, chemical-free, etc.

The second thing you’ll want to know is that all essential oils are not created equal. That means when I speak about essential oils I am only referring to the Young Living brand. Of all the essential oils distilled in the entire world only 2 percent are superior quality (it’s the quality that produces beneficial results).

With that said, here are the primary ways we use our oils:

    1. In a spray bottle. In a 32 oz. spray bottle fill 7/8 of the way full with water, then add a total of 20-30 drops of your chosen Young Living essential oil(s).

Good choices for cleaning are the blends of: Thieves, Purification, or Citrus Fresh.

My personal favorite recipe for both cleaning and air freshening is this recipe:
    12 drops Thyme
    10 drops Spearmint
8 drops Orange, Lemon, Grapefruit, or Tangerine
    5 drops Oregano
    4 drops Rosemary
    3 drops Eucalyptus

Follow the same instructions above for mixing in a spray bottle.

How to Use: You will have to give the spray bottle a little shake every so often while cleaning as this helps to keep the essential oils suspended in the water. Any of the above mixtures can be used to clean kitchen and all bathroom surfaces (yes, tubs and toilets too!) I do not wash off all of the spray (let’s say I’m cleaning my toilet, first thing I’ll do is spritz the entire toilet with the spray mixture and give about 4-5 spritzes inside the toilet bowl itself, and I will let it just sit while I clean the rest of the bathroom. Letting the spray sit, even if it appears to dry/evaporate, I still know that my essential oils are killing everything undesirable.

I’ll clean mirrors, windows, shower doors/curtains, walls, sink, tub and floor with the spray mixture. Spritz the area to be cleaned, then wipe clean with a sponge, rinse sponge, spray, wipe, rinse sponge, repeat – until everything has been spritzed and wiped.

To clean sinks and tubs: Simply add a total of 15-20 drops of your chosen essential oils to a container that has 1 cup Baking Soda. Stir essential oils well into the Baking Soda, sprinkle into sink or tub, scrub with sponge and rinse. Note: this recipe can be made into a larger batch by simply increasing the ingredients, and can be stored almost indefinitely if you have a good seal on your container lid. This homemade mixture does replace all scouring powders and soft scrub cleaners.

A little tip: that favorite spray of mine above, I also use it to spritz (lightly) into the air, phones, keyboards, light swithes, door knobs, my car, bathroom/kitchen air freshener, etc. to not only freshen the air but to kill germs. This is especially useful when people who have colds or flu come over. No sooner do they leave my house and I give the whole place and anything they touched a spritz. I’ve even spritzed my dogs fur after the neighbors little girl, who was horribly sick was petting and hugging him. My dog loves the oils too, we use them as First Aid on him, as well as ourselves. Yes, the oils can replace everything in your household – it takes a little time to learn which ones are good for what, but I am sure glad that I spent the time to learn, it HAS made all the difference in our health and quality of our lives.

    2. Thieves Household Cleaner can be used to replace every cleaner and laundry detergent in your home. The dilution ratios are on the label. All you do is determine which dilution you want and mix it with water in a bucket or spray bottle depending upon the task. To use it in place of laundry detergent simply add one capful in your washer laundry soap dispenser and that’s it! No need to do or add anything else. If you find your laundry comes out all static from the dryer simply adjust the time and temp, as it is over drying that causes static – you never need any antistatic products if you follow that tip.

You can even make your own softscrub powder with Thieves Cleaner, simply mix 1 capful with 1-2 cups Baking Soda, mix well in a container, and use.

Thieves Cleaner can also be used in place of: glass cleaner, dishwasher soap, kitchen/bathroom cleaner, carpet shampoo detergent, floor cleaners, walls, pots & pans, oven cleaner, upholstery cleaners, I even use it to wash my car (exterior and upholstery), cleaning the siding on your house… I haven’t yet found anything that I cannot use it to clean with.

    3. Dryer Sheets – simply take a dampened cloth (like an old wash cloth) and put 3-5 drops of your chosen essential oil on it, toss it into the dryer – that’s it. The Young Living essential oils will not stain clothing because they are super pure. Good essential oil choices for dryer sheets are: Purification, Gentle Baby, Sensation, Joy, or Citrus Fresh.

This is just scratching the surface, there’s so much more you can do with the essential oils. Your question has prompted me to write a little book on all the ways and recipes. Let me know if you need help ordering or if you have further questions. ~ Evelyn
