Lotion and chemical products labelsYou haven’t been feeling well for a very long time.  You just don’t have the energy you used to have, your allergies seem to act up all the time, your headaches have become chronic, your joints and muscles hurt most of the time for no reason, and sometimes you have this tight feeling around your chest for no apparent reason.  You’ve gone to your doctor, who ran some basic blood work, and told you nothing was wrong, you don’t have Mono, you don’t have Lyme’s Disease, etc.  You think you’re crazy, but on a deeper level, you know you’re not making this stuff up, you really do feel terrible.  You continue searching for a diagnosis, maybe even going to a holistic doctor or an environmental physician.  Neither of these doctors think you’re crazy.  Instead, you’re  diagnosed with Multiple Chemical sensitivity, also called MCS.  Now you need to know what is MCS, how did you get it, and what can you do to feel better?

Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS) is a medical condition characterized by debilitating chemical sensitivities.  This is a very difficult diagnosis to make, and should only be diagnosed by a trained physician, such as an environmental physician.  Multiple chemical sensitivity, or MCS, as it is sometimes referred to, is still under debate for some in the medical communit.  Some doctors question whether it exists, while others acknowledge that this is a medical disorder triggered by exposures to chemicals in the environment. This often begins with a short-term, severe chemical exposure, such as a chemical spill, including household cleaners, or a longer-term low level  exposure, such as a poorly ventilated office, vapors or skin exposure from your weekly used home cleaning products, perfumed body care products & perfumesRead the rest of this entry »

Before I get into this article, I’d like to remind everyone that our skin is an organ, and it is the largest organ in our body.  Additionally, a great portion, 83%, of what we put on our skin is absorbed into our bodies.  This includes chemicals we spill on ourselves or put our hands into, etc.

You clean and you clean and you clean, every day, every weekend, because we have been taught that a clean home will help keep us healthy. Because we clean so thoroughly we believe that the cleaner our home is the healthier our home is, and therefore, we are.

Then, one day we overhear a snippet on the 6 o’clock news, and we realize that the different cleaners we’ve been using in our home are most likely toxic, cancer causing and hazardous to our health, the one thing we were trying to achieve!!!!

We, John Q. Public, believe that our government and Medical monitoring agencies have out best interest at heart, and will protect us and keep us safe from harm.  Sadly, that it not the case many times.  Many of the household cleaning products we use in homes are actually health hazards.

The sad but factual truth is that many ingredients in our everyday common household cleaning products that we trust to be safe are absolutely harmful to our health. As consumers why would we want such products around us, our families, especially our children, and our pets?  I believe that this continues to occur because our monitoring and protective agencies bank on that fact that most consumers are not educated in, or aware of the hidden dangers and severe health issues, including cancer, that these popular household cleaning products present to our health. Additionally, most of us are not aware as to how pervasive, chronic, long term and life threatening these health threats are to our families and pets.  Additionally, even if you do read the label, non food products do not have to list the chemicals they use in the processing to make the chemical that you are reading the label of!

Every day we strive to live a healthy, happy and balanced life, to do the right thing by our children and family because we care about our health and our world.  Yet, right under our noses, Big Business is completely undermining our efforts to get and stay healthy by polluting our indoor air environment with toxic chemicals known to cause a multitude of health problems, including cancer.  They trick us into thinking we are making a healthier choice by adding a key word to their product like “natural”, or an ingredient we perceive to mean it’s safe and healthy like “orange” or “lemon”, etc.

DON’T LET THEM FOOL YOU!

Adding Orange to poison still makes it poison.

Adding 1 “natural” ingredient to poison still makes it poison.

Here are some basic facts most people are not aware of:

FACT:  Within 26 seconds after exposure to chemicals, in this case cleaning products , traces of these chemicals can be found in every organ in our body.

FACT: According to theAmericanCollegeof Medical Toxicology, use of household cleaners containing toxic chemicals should be discontinued whenever possible.  Read the rest of this entry »

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

A powerful essence connects us to the spiritual, to the divine. A sacred fragrance can open pathways, encourage self-love, and clear distractions. Now our hearts can communicate with that which is holy. Now our minds can hear the whisper of peace that will bring us comfort and enlightenment.

Embarking on a spiritual journey of transformation by aligning and balancing your energy through the use of therapeutic-grade essential oils is a powerful way to bring yourself into emotional balance. Integrating awareness of the physical through the application of these essential oil blends from Young Living Essential Oils formulated to help you attain a higher spiritual frequency.

For centuries, spiritual seekers have used essential oils, incense and fragrances to help them focus and create sacred spaces that enhanced their ability to connect with the Divine. It is an interesting fact that diverse ancient cultures that had no way of mingling chose many of the same fragrances and aromatherapy oils to intensify their communion with the Spiritual Realm.

The essential oils listed below are Young Living blends that are specifically chosen to enhance a person’s ability to become more aware and receptive to Spirit. These blends are believed to possess vibrational frequencies that affect the physical and energetic bodies, removing blocks and balancing energies to experience greater “vision” or to “hear” with more clarity. The frequencies of these oils enhance perceptions that enable you to feel a greater Oneness with Spirit.

7 Aromatherapy Oil Blends to Enhance Awareness and Accelerate Connection with Divine Self

  1. Awaken – helps you realize you have the ability to set and achieve lofty goals; opens the heart and mind to hearing the guidance needed during difficult life transitions that eventually lead you to your highest potential.
  2. Dream Catcher – opens the mind to choices and possibilities that you possess; may enhance dreams and visualization to determine your true desires and find your life’s purpose; can promote a greater potential for realizing your dreams and staying on your path as well as protection from negative dreams that might cloud your vision.
  3. Gathering – assists you on your journey to find spiritual enlightenment; focus on truth and filter out misinformation which can distract you from your true spiritual path; gathers emotional and spiritual thoughts to achieve our potential.
  4. Humility – helps remove negative blocks and emotions that prevent you from being in a teachable place such as anger, stress, sadness, fear, arrogance and similar emotions; an integral ingredient in offering forgiveness and obtaining deeper spiritual awareness; through its frequency and fragrance, find that place where your own healing can begin.
  5. Inspiration – creates a sacred space for communication; opens the heart and mind, enabling you to ask for direction and increases your ability to hear the answers; a combination of oils used by native people in the East and North America for increasing spirituality and enhancing prayer, meditation and inner awareness.
  6. Sacred Mountain – a blend of oils extracted from conifers which represent the sacred feeling of the mountains; protection, strength and security; represents the sacred space, the point of communication between the human and the Divine; creates physical and emotional alignments to access your divinity and communicate at the spiritual level. This is one of my most favorite YL oils.
  7. White Angelica – a combination of oils used during ancient times to increase the aura; shields against the bombardment of negative energy; used to “seal” you to your spiritual path.

5 Ways to Use Aromatherapy in Your Practice

  1. Inhalation: this is perhaps the simplest way to gain benefits from aromatherapy. open the bottle and either inhale directly or place a drop in your palm, rub palms together, then cup palms over the nose and inhale deeply a few times.
  2. Diffusing: put several drops of your chosen aromatherapy oil in your diffuser, diffuse 15-30 minutes, 3-4 times a day. More on Diffusers and Diffusing.
  3. Topical: place a drop or two of your chosen essential oil on pulse points, Chakras, or on the soles of the feet.
  4. Massage: combining massage with essential oils is one way to get powerful releasing results. Mix 4-7 drops of your chosen essential oil with 2 TBSP of a carrier oil, such as V-6 Massage Oil.
  5. Bath: mix 4 drops of your chosen essential oil with 1 cup of Epsom Salts or Sea Salt, pour salt mixture under running bath water, soak for 20 minutes.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Over a decade ago, I studied ‘Space Clearing’ with Denise Linn as part of my classical Feng Shui Training. I was reading some old articles and emails from 2008 and came across this one (below) that Denise had written.  Denise was one of the people in my life who have helped me on my spiritual path and shared with me empowering tools that I will carry with me forever.  Denise has since moved on to teaching Soul Coaching, perhaps you’ll find this story as spiritually moving as I do…Healing energy from hands

The Warrior’s Code

Last week I was on a flight into San Francisco and I surreptitiously noticed the young man sitting next to me in the middle seat. He radiated a calm centeredness. He didn’t seem to be squirming in the struggle for “personal boundaries” that so often accompanies those who are stuffed into tight middle seats. As I’m always intrigued to find out what beliefs are held by those who seem at peace, amidst the chaos of everyday life, I engaged him in conversation.

He explained that he was a Marine and had been stationed four different times in Iraq. He said his life was often in peril and there were many times when buddies, on either side of him, had been killed or seriously wounded. I couldn’t understand how someone—who had been in that much constant danger and who had seen so many violent deaths and carried shrapnel in his arms—could be so at peace. "There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Chakras are spinning vortexes of energy, which both take in and emit life-force energy. There are eight main chakras down the centerline of the body, from the top of the head to the bottom of the torso. When all chakras are spinning evenly and in concert with one another, the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual systems of the body are in balance. Therapeutic-grade essential oils are excellent for balancing and blending the chakras.

The following is a basic reference on how to use essential oils for activating and balancing the energy centers – chakras – of the body.Chakra color chart

You may find an eBook I wrote with David Zarza, C.Ht. to be useful in addressing the Chakras, Working with Emotions: Aromatherapy and Your Shadow.

First Earth: The Root (or Base) Chakra

Essential Oil Blends: Valor®, or  Abundance

Apply topically to the bottoms of the feet and sacrum.

The root (or base) chakra is the first and most important chakra for yoga or any kind of healing work. The key words here are courage, security, safety, grounding, and boundaries.

Second Water: The Sacral Chakra

Essential Oil Blends: Peace & Calming®, or Harmony

Apply topically below the navel.

The sacral chakra is the center of your creativity, desire, emotion, sexuality, and intuition. This is where you learn how to give and receive pleasure.

Third Fire: The Solar Plexus Chakra

Essential Oil Blends: Harmony™, or En-R-Gee

Apply topically below the sternum and behind the stomach.

The solar plexus chakra is the center of personal power, ambition, intellect, astral force, desire, and emotions based on intellect and touch.

Fourth Air: The Heart Chakra

Essential Oil Blend: Joy

Apply topically to the center of the chest at heart level.

The heart chakra is the center of compassion, love, group consciousness, and spiritually associated with “oneness” with “all that is.”

Fifth Ether: The Throat Chakra

Essential Oil Blends: Believe™, or Valor®

Apply topically to the posterior neck and the base of the occiput (the back part of the head or skull).

The throat chakra is the center of communication, sound, and expression of creativity via thought, speech, and writing.

Sixth Light: Third Eye Chakra

Essential Oils: Frankincense, or Peppermint

Apply topically to the middle of the forehead and above the eyebrows. The t hird eye chakra is the center of physic power, higher intuition, the energies of the spirit, magnetic forces, and light. This center is about Divine Thought, balanced intuition, and intellect.

Seventh Crown: The Crown Chakra

Essential Oils: Frankincense, or Lavender

Apply to the crown of the head.

The crown chakra is the center of spirituality, enlightenment, dynamic thought, and energy. The keyword is inspiration. This is the connecting link to your highest and finest self.

Aria and TheraPro essential oil diffusersDuring the winter months there is usually a higher amount of air pollution and bacteria in the air than at other times of the year due to an increase in the closed doors and windows and the fact that cold air keeps air pollution closer to the ground. This increased pollution can lead to respiratory issues for some. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of pure therapeutic-grade essential oils, along with the negative ions and oxygenating molecules which are released when essential oils are diffused all help to reduce bacteria, odors in the air. Therapeutic-grade essential oils never mask odors, they purify the air of odors and bacteria causing germs. When higher quality essential oils are diffused the results go beyond basic aromatherapy!

Pure Therapeutic-grade Essential Oils Recommended for Indoor Air Purification

  • Single Essential Oils: cypress, eucalyptus, fir, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, and rosemary.
  • Essential Oil Blends: Thieves, R.C., Purification, and Citrus Fresh.

Diffusers and Diffusing

The Aria Ultrasonic Diffuser (above left) (#4524) emits a fine mist of essential oils that stays suspended in the air. It is a perfect natural alternative to synthetic air fresheners. By breaking up a mixture of water and essential oil into millions of micro-particles, the Aria disperses an aromatic mist into the air, activating the beneficial constituents found in Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils.

The TheraPro Premium Diffuser (above right) (#4495)  is designed to disperse essential oils in a micro-fine vapor (without containing water) so the essential oil stays suspended for several hours. The TheraPro Premium Diffuser disperses the oils without heating them (heat destroys the therapeutic compounds), so the essential oils retain their therapeutic benefits.

Experiencing the physical and psychological benefits of aromatherapy diffusing in your home is amazing and you may wish that you had started doing this much sooner.
