Stress

You are currently browsing the archive for the Stress category.

It’s only Wednesday, but your body feels like it’s Friday night, 10pm.  You’re exhausted, and everything you own hurts, from your 10 little piggies to the top of your head.  You’re  balancing your checkbook in your head, figuring out the food shopping list, and dreading the weekend cleaning and chores.  As you slip into bed, wondering if you can shut your brain off long enough to get a few hours of sleep, you realize your feet really do hurt, your back is quite sore, and your neck and shoulders are stiff as a board, holding all of your tension.  Great, now what do you do?

A full body massage would be heavenly, but it’s 10pm, so that’s not happening.  Well, if you enjoy the benefits of Young Living essential Oils, you’ve most likely got a case full of oils sitting at the ready.  Now what do you do?   A foot or hand massage is a quick,  fantastic idea, and, if you’ve got a partner or child old enough, they can give you a back, neck, head, hand or foot massage.  But, which essential oils are the best essential oils for your foot or hand massage?

My personal favorite is a foot massage, every time.  We take our feet for granted, they get us where we need to go, and then we promptly forget about them.  We carry a lot of stress in our feet, but really,  very few of us pay them any attention at all.   I can promise you, if you get a foot massage, it feels so good that it can and will relax our whole body, and you’ll want one every day.  When I’m alone, I use a tennis ball or my nubbed hand held back massager to do my feet.  Read the rest of this entry »

In this ebook, Evelyn Vincent and David Zarza C.Ht. teach you about your Shadow and Aromatherapy, as well as instructing you on how to use essential oils when working with your Shadow. "There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

When it comes time to studying for exams, no matter the age, sometimes focus, comprehension and clarity can be difficult. Simply inhaling any of these essential oils provides the brain with alertness and the ability to concentrate better.

Want good test scores: use the same essential oil during test-taking that you used during studying to facilitate recall!

The fragrance of a therapeutic-grade essential oil can directly affect everything from your emotional state to your lifespan. When a fragrance is inhaled, the odor molecules travel up the nose where they are trapped by olfactory membranes that are well protected by the lining inside the nose. Each odor molecule fits like a little puzzle piece into specific receptor cell sites that line a membrane known as the olfactory epithelium. Each one of these hundreds of millions of nerve cells is replaced every 28 days. When stimulated by odor molecules, this lining of nerve cells triggers electrical impulses to the olfactory bulb in the brain. The olfactory bulb then transmits the impulses to the gustatory center (where the sensation of taste is perceived), the amygdala (where emotional memories are stored), and other parts of the limbic system of the brain. Because the limbic system is directly connected to those parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance, essential oils can have profound physiological and psychological effects.

5 good Young Living therapeutic-grade essential oils for focus, retention, recall and comprehension are:

1) Brain Power™ Essential Oil Blend (#3313)

Brain Power™ gives your brain a boost with essential oils that are high in sesquiterpenes. Use it to clarify thought and develop greater focus.

2) Clarity™ Essential Oil Blend (#3321)Clarity Essential Oil Blend

Clarity™promotes a clear mind and alertness. It contains stimulating oils including peppermint and rosemary, which have been used for many years to promote mental sharpness. A study performed by Dr. William N. Dember of the University of Cincinnati found that inhaling peppermint oil increased the mental accuracy of students by 28 percent. Clarity can also be used to help restore mental alertness or wakefulness when you are experiencing fatigue or drowsiness.
How to use Clarity™: For aromatic use and topically. Diffuse; put in bath water; put on cotton ball in air vents. Apply on temples, wrists, and neck.
Ingredients in Clarity™: Basil (Ocimum basilicum), cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum), rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis), peppermint (Mentha piperita), rosewood (Aniba rosaeodora), geranium (Pelargonium graveolens), lemon (Citrus limon), palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini), ylang ylang (Cananga odorata), bergamot (Citrus bergamia), Roman chamomile (Chamaemelum nobile), and jasmine (Jasminum officinale).

Omega Blue (mercury-free fish oil supplement)Young Living, the world leader in essential oils, recently made a large donation of Omega Blue™ supplement to The Heritage School, a residential treatment center for at-risk adolescents. The donation will provide a year’s supply of the supplement to the school’s entire student body and is valued at more than $20,000. The school’s staff is already attributing improved behavior among the students to Omega Blue.

The omega-3 fatty acids found in Omega Blue—along with a proprietary blend of essential oils—support healthy cardiovascular and brain function. Omega-3s are also believed to stabilize mood and have a positive impact on depression.

I’m not at all surprised that the school is seeing vast improvement, it’s long been known that fish oil has dramatic affects on our brain’s chemistry and produces amazing results in emotional and physical health. I have always been a big fan of Young Living’s Omega Blue and highly recommend it! Omega Blue Fact Sheet.

Debbie Hamilton, director of health services at The Heritage School said…

“We have had a very encouraging response to Omega Blue. The quality of the product was recognized immediately by students, parents and staff members. We know that Omega Blue is a major contributing factor to the behavioral improvement we are seeing in many of our kids. Young Living’s generosity toward our school is greatly appreciated.”

The Heritage School is located in Provo, Utah, and offers a variety of therapy programs customized to fit the needs of each of its students. At-risk adolescents spend an average of 14 months at the school and then graduate equipped with the social and psychological tools they need to lead happy, productive lives.

“We are proud to be able to donate our products to an organization that does as much good as The Heritage School,” says Young Living CEO Doug Nelson. “Its mission of improving lives resonates with us, and it is a privilege to assist them in transforming the mental and physical health of their students.”

Lavender Essential OilResearchers in Germany have conducted a controlled study investigating the effects of lavender essential oil on anxiety disorders. Lavender has long been regarded for its soothing and balancing properties.

At the end of the ten-week study, the authors concluded that lavender significantly reduced the Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) scores of patients who were treated with the essential oil and not a placebo.

Effectiveness of a Lavender Oil Preparation in Treating Anxiety Disorder

Kasper S, Gastpar M, Müller WE, et al. Silexan, an orally administered Lavandula oil preparation, is effective in the treatment of ‘subsyndromal’ anxiety disorder: a randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled trial. Int Clin Psychopharmacol. 2010;25(5):277-287.

Excerpts:

“According to the authors, all clinical trials published to date that evaluated lavender as a treatment for anxiety were performed in highly specific patient populations (e.g., patients with a terminal illness, in intensive care, or who have situation provoked anxiety), and many of the studies were methodologically flawed. Hence, the purpose of this randomized, double-blind, placebo- controlled multicenter study was to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of an oral preparation of lavender essential oil.”

“At 10 weeks, the lavender group had a significant reduction in HAMA score compared with baseline (P < 0.001), but the placebo group did not. The lavender-treated patients had a total mean score decrease of 16.0 ± 8.3 points (59.3%) for the HAMA. In contrast, the placebo-treated patients had a decrease of 9.5 ± 9.1 points (35.4%) on HAMA. The anxiolytic effect of lavender was clinically detectable after 2 weeks of treatment and was statistically significant at week 4 and all later visits (P < 0.05). Extrapolating the HAMA total score time course beyond 10 weeks suggests that additional improvements might occur if treatment were to be continued beyond 10 weeks. Lavender treatment was superior to placebo regarding the percentage of responders (76.9% vs. 49.1%, P < 0.001) and remitters (60.6% vs. 42.6%, P = 0.009).

Sleep disturbances frequently accompany anxiety disorders. The lavender treatment had a significant beneficial influence on the patients’ duration and quality of sleep and reduced their daytime tiredness. The lavender-treated patients had a total mean score decrease of 5.5 ± 4.4 points (44.7%) on the PSQI, whereas the placebo-treated patients had a decrease of 3.8 ± 4.1 points (30.9%). The sleep improvement was detectable after 2 weeks of treatment and became statistically significant after 6 weeks of treatment (P ≤ 0.01).”

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Recently I had a severe panic attack, thinking someone had broken into our home. Even after I had checked the house, and felt certain no one had broken in, I could not shake the fear, anxiety or panic attack I was still having. I was sweating, my heart was racing, and I was still experiencing that panic fight or flight response, which is actually an Epinephrine rush.
I had already applied Young Living Essential Oils Peace and Calming, as well as Tranquil and Release. My panic attack would not go away. The anxiety was still front and center. I was still completely on edge and as jumpy as a cat on a hot tin roof. I applied Young Living Essential Oil Black Pepper. Within 10 minutes, that edgyness was gone, and slowly but surely, minute by minute, I began to relax. I felt the anxiety, the panic attack finally start to abate. I began to relax, my heart rate returning to normal. I’ve subsequently applied Black pepper to vitaflex points, as well as my wrists and forehead before I’m about to do something that always results in panic, like flying, or driving over very high bridges. It’s working. I’ve come to associate black pepper with a “black hole”. Anything that has the possibility of putting me in that bad, panic anxiety filled place, I apply black pepper with one of the other calming oils Young Living makes, and I’m getting much better results. Black Pepper is the “icing on the cake” if you will. I also believe based on the way Black Pepper worked for me, that it would be a fantastic oil in conjunction with another calming oil for people suffering from Stage Fright, which is a form of panic attack. Try adding Young Living Essential Oil Black Pepper to which ever calming and relaxing oil works best for you to assist in getting out of and releasing those panic attack, anxiety, negative feelings you get from time to time. I firmly feel if I had not added the Black Pepper Oil I never would have been able to go to sleep that night. Remember, link black Pepper to “black hole” in your mind, and hopefully the Black Pepper will be the finishing oil to relieving your anxiety as it has for me. I applied this oil neat to vitaflex points. I don’t ever use a carrier oil, and have never had any skin sensitivity. Depending on your own skin sensitivity, you may want to use a carrier oil, or one of Young Living’s calming Oil as your carrier oil.
