Edema (Ankle Swelling)

Swelling, particularly around the ankles, is noticeable when fluids accumulate in the tissue. "There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

This is an assortment of tips and testimonials for a variety of foot problems that may help you or someone you know. They all used essential oils or products from Young Living.

Aroma Siez Essential Oil and Foot Cramps Testimonial

“Another manifestation of my current body imbalance was waking up in the middle of the night with foot cramps…big OUCH! Thank goodness I had my trusty Aroma Siez (for those seized-up muscles) handy. I just applied a couple of drops neat on top of the feet, and on the bottom, and again, the cramping stopped as if by magic. I am so grateful that I now have built my “stash” of oils to have them all. I remember well when I was just beginning in the business, and my upline (who just came into the business a week or so before me) and I used to discuss which oils we would order first, in our desire to build an inventory, and how we felt it would be quite a while before we could order the kits.

It’s interesting to look back on that time, and I’m so grateful I stayed with it. Over time, Young Living has brought many blessings…not only the wonderful effective healing, but the abundance to now order whatever I choose without concern. The choice to join Young Living certainly turned out to be one of my better decisions in this lifetime!” ~ Anonymous

Foot Bath Recipe for Sore Feet

  • 1/2 cup Epsom Salts
  • 5 drops Wintergreen
  • 3 drops Peppermint
  • 2 drops Chamomile
  • 2 drops Orange

Add all essential oils to Epsom Salts, stir well and add to warm foot bath water. Soak feet for 15-20 minutes, pat dry and apply Tender Tush to feet to soften skin. Your feet will be feeling wonderful and looking pretty in no time!

Feet as Soft as a Baby’s Bottom Testimonial

“The best combination I’ve found for cracked dry skin is to mix a small dab of Tender Tush with a small dab of Animal Scents Ointment in my palm mix them together well and apply them to feet, knees, elbows and hands. If I had a fungal or any other type of infection, I would add a few drops of Melrose to my little mixture of Tender Tush and Animal Scents Ointment. This combination makes my skin feel as soft as a baby’s bottom.” ~ Evelyn

Omega Blue for Dry Skin Testimonial

“I increased the Omega Blue [fish oil supplement] in the winter time. It really helps me not have dry skin.” ~ Kim

Chicken Pox and LavaDerm Testimonial

“Just to let you know that my 9 year old daughter breezed through the worst case of chicken pox I had ever seen (of 5 kids) with Lavaderm. I just sprayed her every time she was itchy which was only the first 2 days. I really expected it to be much more complaining given the way she looked. We even took pictures because she was so covered!” ~ Tammie D.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

These are some of my favorite and easy use tips for summertime using vinegar and therapeutic-grade essential oils from Young Living. Over the years I have found vinegar terrific for somethings and essential oils superior for others. So this list comprises what I have found to be the best-of-the-best in my household.

  1. Storing Winter Clothing – keep moths out of your stored clothing by putting several drops of both Lavender and Cedarwood essential oils on a cotton ball where the clothing is stored.
  2. Mice Nesting Indoors – use lots of Peppermint essential oil! Put drops directly on unfinished wooden surfaces, or put drops on a cotton ball and place cotton ball in desired locations. This WILL keep rodents away and chase them away if they’re already inside. You will have to refresh every so often for it to keep working.
  3. Weed Killer – kill weeds with vinegar – PLEASE – note that the dilution ratio and how often it is used can create positive or negative results. Here’s an article I wrote on Weeds and Vinegar based on two Ag studies and on using vinegar in the garden effectively.
  4. Aromatherapy to Sleep Better – I have been scenting my bed linens every morning when I make my bed for over 12 years now. It is so easy to do and I find it helps me feel and sleep so much better. Here’s an article I wrote, Aromatherapy Bed Linen Spray to learn more.
  5. Vinegar for Fleas and Ticks – I have heard you can add a teaspoon of white distilled vinegar for each quart bowl of drinking water to help keep your pet free of fleas and ticks. The ratio of one teaspoon to one quart is for a forty-pound animal. I tried this with our dog but used Apple Cider vinegar and my dog hated the taste and pretty much stopped drinking his water, so that one didn’t work for us. I have also read that vinegar can be used as a spray on dogs to repel insects, however… doing this too often can be harsh on your dog’s skin, therefore I am not likely to try this method. This I also tried using Apple Cider vinegar and it works well for fleas but did nothing for ticks. I do not spray the vinegar water down onto my dogs skin as was suggested to do. I simply sprayed it a bit down into his coat. Interestingly, he enjoys licking the vinegar spray off his coat which means he’s ingesting it – go figure! Still it’s done nothing to kill or repel ticks. We’ve had fantastic results using Palo Santo essential oil on ticks. Read about our experiment and resultsusing Palo Santo and ticks.
  6. Cure a cement pond before adding fish and plants by adding one gallon of white distilled vinegar to every 200 gallons of water. Let sit three days. Empty and rinse thoroughly.
  7. Keep Cats Out of the Garden – Vinegar will help keep cats away from areas you don’t want them. Sprinkle vinegar on any areas where you don’t want the cat walking, sleeping, or scratching. Pour it around the perimeter of your children’s sandbox and repeat every two months and this will discourage cats from using it as their sandbox.

Aromatherapy Travel Fan DiffuserThe timing couldn’t be more perfect for the July monthly special. You can save 10% on the Travel Fan Diffuser and get a free 5ml bottle of Purification essential oil blend included!

I did the math… normally the retail prices on these are as follows…

- Travel Fan Diffuser $46.05 (plus tax/shipping)
- Purification essential oil (5ml bottle) approx. $10 (I say approximately because Young Living doesn’t normally sell Purification in the 5ml size, it’s always 15ml)

You save about $15 off the retail costs, not bad at all!

5 Cool Facts I Like About the Travel Fan Diffuser

  1. First, it is perfect for travel; it’s lightweight, easy to use in the car and in those smelly hotel rooms (peeee-U!)
  2. It’s battery operated.
  3. It’s safe to use; it does not use heat to disperse the essential oil but rather a quite fan (heat ruins the therapeutic benefits of your oils).
  4. It can diffuse any of the YL oils without getting clogged.
  5. Plus, diffusing essential oils is a perfect way to help you relieve tension, dispel odors, and create an atmosphere of peace and harmony.

How To Use the Travel Fan Diffuser

Put 15–20 drops of your favorite essential oil or use the free bottle of Purification that comes with it (more drops may be needed for rooms larger than 600 square feet). There is about 80 drops in a 5ml bottle. Slide the essential oil pad holder, grid facing downward, back into the diffuser. Press down once on the on/off button to turn on and start diffusing. A green indicator light will turn on when the unit is functioning. To turn off, press on/off button again.

If you would like more details refer to the aromatherapy Travel Fan Diffuser fact sheet.

About Purification Essential Oil Blend

This is a nice essential oil, it has a clean fresh scent, like you spent all day cleaning. The essential oils in this blend are well known for killing bacteria, smoke, and bad odors… it won’t mask the smelly odors, it will actually get rid of what makes it stink.

You can even put a couple drops of Purification on a cut or insect bite. Here are some other favorite ways we use Purification…

  • Dilute several drops of Purification essential oil blend in a spray bottle and spray to repel insects.
  • Apply one drop of Purification essential oil blend topically to soothe existing bug bites or scratches.
  • Add Purification essential oil blend to your washing machine to freshen laundry.
  • Add a couple drops of Purification essential oil blend to shoes to help neutralize odors.
  • Add a few drops of Purification essential oil blend to a cotton ball to help eliminate stale air in the office or your child’s room.
  • Diffuse Purification essential oil blend to clear the air of impurities.
  • Diffuse Purification essential oil blend to eliminate odors after the dog returns from playing outdoors in the rain.

Purification, like Thieves essential oil, is one that I always keep on hand and toss into my bag when we go for a hike or when we travel. The value these oils provide in our household is nothing short of amazing… you can start to get the idea of how valued these oils are by taking a look at how we use them in place of other commonly used products.

How to use essential oils and get successful results begins with knowing how to use your oils properly, particularly when they are therapeutic-grade essential oils. "There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Now more than ever, studies and testing have shown just how unhealthy common products we all use daily can have a negative impact on our mental and physical health. From asthma and allergies, to emotional imbalances and disease, time and again we hear how hazardous personal care and household cleaning products are destroying our health and our environment.

TV commercials and advertisements bombard us with all sorts of claims that we want to hear, most of the time the claims are far from the truth. Big companies and shareholder’s have one concern, making as much profit as possible and keeping their costs down. While there is nothing wrong with making an honest living it’s quite another thing to change the names and an ingredient is disguised. No matter how harmful the research turns out to be people are still confused about which products are truly safe.

I discovered Young Living in 1998 and immediately fell in love with their essential oils and essential oil enhanced products. A couple of things I liked most are: they are super quality, they never compromise and use cheap and harmful ingredients, and the products are so concentrated that I only need to use a small amount. How this benefits me is that I’m getting a lot for my money, and I’m not putting unnecessary toxins in my body.

There are three things to keep in mind…

  1. When you use plant-based, biodegradable ingredients, your products have zero impact on the environment.
  2. All of the ingredients in Young Living Signature Seal personal-care products are derived from actual botanicals, not synthesized in a lab to model nature.
  3. Young Living does not use any ingredients that modern research has shown to have suspected health risks. This includes parabens, sulfates, and other toxins commonly found in personal-care products.

Where to start and what to switch over to… Read the rest of this entry »
