I think it’s fair to say almost every single one of us has been told over the course of their lifetime, that something that ailed them was “inflammation:.  But has anyone ever explained the process of inflammation?  Most likely the answer is no.

They are many medications on the market, like Celebrex, naprosyn, and ones like Vioxx which have been pulled from the market due to sudden cardiac death and strokes.  I personally took Celebrex and Vioxx in the past.  ALL prescriptions on the market for inflammation come with these same side effects, even if you don’t hear about it often anymore.  ALL OF THEM.

Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils DO NOT come with any of those side effects, and used properly, there is no risk of stroke or heart attack.

I suffer (suffered) from pain on a constant, chronic daily basis.  I have 2 types of arthritis, systemic Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and many, many other illnesses, as well as a fused cervical spine and titanium shoulder.  Taking 8 Vicodin a day did not do much to alleviate the pain.  Many days I was in tears because I couldn’t get away from the pain.  Then, there was the “acute” pain surprises on top of the chronic pain.  One second my knee would be fine, the next second it would feel like someone was stabbing me in the knee.  Some days, if it happened while I was driving the car, I would literally need to pull over because I was incapable of driving.  After years of taking these anti inflammatory medications, which, by the way, did work to a minimal extent, I was introduced to Young Living Essential Oils, my savior!

I turned to my Young Living essential oils.  I researched and experimented, and finally came up with a topically applied synergistic blend of 26 Young Living Essential Oils that I’m calling “Happy Cells”.  (see why below).  When it is applied, by the drop, to an acute or chronic area of pain, the pain is literally gone in less then 5 minutes at the most, more often within the minute. There are times the pain is gone within seconds.

I have tested this blend on neuropathy pain, acute injury pain, chronic old injury pain, arthritic pain, pulled and strained muscles and joints, diabetic neuropathy, and Fibromyalgia pain.  It has worked immediately and completely on every single one.  The only time it did not relieve the pain 100% was on my broken collarbone.  To be honest, it relieved the pain by about 65%, however, I was continuing to use my arm and shoulder, it was NOT in a sling and swath, as I was concerned about getting a frozen shoulder again.  So, in reality, if I had babied my arm and put it in a sling, I suspect my pain would’ve been completely relieved.

Although this blend may seem expensive, it is used by the drop, not by the ounce.  I use 1-2 drops per area of pain, that’s it.  So, in reality, the bottle will last a long time, it’s organic, chemical free, and, most importantly, IT WORKS!  In reality you would be spending much more on the chemical laden products currently on the market that, on a good day, might relieve your pain by 50% at best for a very short period of time. Additionally, it has NO EXPIRATION DATE!  It will be as potent 5 years from now as it is today.  Also, you can not overdose on my topically applied product, as you can with some others.  Documented deaths have been occurring since 2007 from BenGay http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/15/AR2007061500676.html,  and other over the counter topical pain relievers:  Please feel free to do your own research on deaths and Ben Gay, deaths and sports creams, etc.

You will NOT experience ANY of these symptoms or problems with my product.  It is 100% pure, organic unadulterated Therapeutic Grade Essential oils, for topical application only.  If you have sensitive skin, I would then suggest trying 1 drop to see if your skin will react, and if it does, cut it with V6 or Olive Oil.

My formula should relieve pain 100% of the time on ALL types of pain. It works for a minimum of 4 hours, possibly all day, depending on the reason for the pain and if you’re still actively using that area (like me and my collarbone).

My blend was created after countless hours of research and trial and error, looking for oils that “potentiate” (boost) each other, so that the whole is more then its parts.

It’s applied topically, is safe for use on children and pets.  I used it on my dog’s dislocated hip, my daughter’s multiple fractures, a friend’s diabetic peripheral neuropathy in his feet, my mom’s acute and chronic knee, a friend’s cancer bone pain, and ALL of my multiple acute and chronic injuries and illness pain.

I use a blend of 26 Young Living Organic Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, that’s it.  No chemicals, no baby oil, no “gel”, no petroleum jelly, no other cancer causing toxic ingredients like other topical pain products on the market.  There are NO filler products at all.  You are getting 100% pure organic essential oils, and nothing else.  You can, if you choose, dilute this with a few drops of a carrier oil to extend your product, or you can ask me to do it for you.  However, please remember that pure essential oils have NO expiration date, and anything you use to fill the product will have an expiration date.

I look forward to assisting you in becoming pain free, and living your life to the fullest in an organic natural toxic chemical free essential oil way!

Understanding Inflammation:  Inflammation is an immune cellular defense process of what happens to any part of your body that is either acutely injured (a fall), or chronic (tennis elbow, carpel tunnel), or from an autoimmune disease (System Lupus, MS, etc.), or infection.

Inflammation is characterized by any number of symptoms, including:

  • Redness
  • Swollen joint that is warm to touch (not always warm)
  • Joint pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Loss of joint function
  • Area of swelling along the bone or muscle
  • Pain is not always present

Inflammation MAY also be associated with general “flu-like” symptoms including:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Fatigue/loss of energy
  • Headaches
  • Loss of appetite
  • Muscle stiffness

These flu like symptoms are most often seen when there is an underlying chronic inflammatory process due to an auto-immune disease, not from an acute injury.

What causes the symptoms of inflammation?

When an injury to the body occurs for any reason, inflammation occurs. Chemicals from the body’s white blood cells are released into the blood or affected tissues in an attempt to rid the body of foreign substances created by the injury, and to  repair tissue trauma.  This release of chemicals increases the blood flow to the area and may result in redness and warmth.  A chemical cascade effect takes place, with the immune system being “activated”, which calls white blood cells to the site to eat up the injured dead cells from the injury, while at the same time increasing blood flow to the injured site. Some of the chemicals cause leakage of fluid into the tissues, resulting in swelling. The cells move out of the vein and into the injured tissue, where they normally are not. The inflammatory process will likely stimulate nerves and cause pain, as will the swelling.  Additionally, depending on the injury itself, the nerve may have been directly injured, which will cause pain.  Once the white blood cells “eat” the injured and dead cells, they themselves start to release toxic enzymes into the tissue, which is a chemical signal for yet MORE cells to be called to the site.  This response by the body will continue until the injury is repaired.

Pain is caused when ever a nerve is injured or inflammed by any disease process, or there is tissue damage.   Nerves can be injured by being “pinched” between things, like a bone and disc, or “pinched: due to pressure from a swollen inflammed area.  Pain can arise in any organ or system  Because pain is subjective and intensly personal, sympathetic care and support is a very important part of pain relief.  In addition to analgesic pain relievers, doctors SHOULD use a wide variety of tools and techniques to help alleviate the pain and find and treat the root cause of the pain.  All too often we get a script for a pain killer without getting to the root cause of the problem, so we are only masking the pain, and not fixing the problem.

Young Living Essential Oils treat not only the pain, but decrease the inflammation from the site, helping you not only feel better quicker, but to get better quicker.

Please look for my anti-inflammatory pain blend in my store, http://headandhoof.com/.

I hope this blend will help you through your weekly aches and pains as much as it has helped me and my friends, because, let’s be honest, when you’re in pain it effects every part of you, including your mood and attitude, so, turn your frown upside down and buy some Happy Cell today.

Sadly High Cholesterol has become a medical crisis in the USA, and now includes children as young as 3 years old.  High Cholesterol creates a lengthy list of additional medical conditions, most of which have little to no outward signs, so it very easily becomes a silent killer.  One day you feel fine, the next day you could be in the ER being told you need bypass surgery or a roto-ruter of your heart’s arteries.  Many lifestyle choices we make every day contribute to our high cholesterol, however, it can also be genetically caused.

Part 3 of this series will focus on natural alternative choices you might want to consider adding to your daily regime as part of your lifestyle changes.  This article is not intended to diagnose or treat any illness or disease, and is provided for informational purposes only.

SALT LAKE CITY—July 14, 2011—Researchers in Iran have conducted a clinical trial investigating the effects of sage leaf extract on hyperlipidemia. This condition consists of abnormally elevated levels of LDL (bad) cholesterol, triglycerides and other factors that can lead to cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of men and women in the United States with about 500,000 people dying from the disease each year.

The study demonstrated some exciting potential wellness benefits of sage, with participants’ triglycerides, LDL and total cholesterol dropping even as their HDL (good) cholesterol levels increased.  HC 061151-427, Date: June 30, 2011

RE: Sage Leaf Extract  May Be Safe and Effective in Treating hyperlipidemia.

Kianbakht S, Abasi B, Perham M, Hashem Dabaghian F. Antihyperlipidemic effects of Salvia officinalis L. leaf extract in patients with hyperlipidemia: a randomized doubleblind placebo-controlled clinical trial. Phytother Res. Apr 2011; [epub ahead of print]. doi:10.1002/ptr.3506.

Hyperlipidemia (abnormally elevated blood lipids or lipoprotein—total and low-density lipoprotein [LDL] cholesterol, very low-density lipoprotein [VLDL], triglycerides, and chylomicrons) can cause cardiovascular disease. Primary hyperlipidemia is caused by genetic mutations, and is divided into 3 categories: hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia, and combined hyperlipidemia (elevated total cholesterol and triglycerides, and decreased high-density lipoprotein [HDL] cholesterol). Alternative treatments are required because some patients are resistant to current treatments.

Sage, (Salvia officinalis) has antihyperlipidemic effects in vitro. There is only 1 pilot clinical study that evaluates lipid levels other than blood triglyceride and VLDL. Hence, the purpose of this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study was to evaluate the efficacy and safety of sage leaf extract in treating primary hyperlipidemia.  Patients included in this study had  total cholesterol levels = 240-300 mg/dL At baseline and at study end, blood was collected, and levels of total cholesterol, triglycerides, VLDL, LDL cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, creatinine, and liver enzymes (serum glutamic-oxaloacetictransaminase [SGOT] and serum glutamic-pyruvic transaminase [SGPT]) were measured.

At study end, sage treatment reduced total cholesterol by 19.6%, triglycerides by 22.8%, LDL by 19.7%, and VLDL by 13.3% compared with baseline.

Sage increased HDL levels by 20.2% compared with baseline. This effect was significantly different from placebo: There was no significant effect on SGOT, SGPT, and creatinine levels. The authors conclude that since sage had no significant effects on SGOT, SGPT, and creatinine, it would not produce liver or kidney toxicity. Sage leaves had favorable effects on a variety of lipids. Thus, sage leaves may be useful for treating hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia.

What does this study mean?  In non medical speak, this study showed that 500 mg. of sage taken 3 times a day for 2 months DECREASED total cholesterol, triglycerides and LDL cholesterol by 19.6-22.2% in only 2 months!  Additionally, HDH, good cholesterol was increased by 20.2%!  On top of that, NO ILL EFFECTS occurred on the liver or kidneys!  None!

The medical community and government are also studying the positive effects of Essential Oils on high cholesterol.  Here are some of their governmental findings.

Fish Oil found to lower cholesterol:  University of Maryland:  People who follow a Mediterranean-style diet tend to have higher HDL or “good” cholesterol levels, which help promote heart health. Inuit Eskimos, who get high amounts of omega-3 fatty acids from eating fatty fish, also tend to have increased HDL cholesterol and decreased triglycerides (fats in the blood). Several studies have shown that fish oil supplements reduce triglyceride levels. Finally, walnuts (which are rich in alpha linolenic acid or LNA, a type of omega-3 fatty acid) have been reported to lower total cholesterol and triglycerides in people with high cholesterol levels.  http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19416695

Abstract: Lavender, monarda, and basil essential oils were tested in rabbits for their effect on atherosclerosis. When inhaled, lavender and mon arda essential oils did not affect blood cholesterol content, but reduced cholesterol content in the aorta. These oils provide a heart-protective effect.

A naturally sweet, indigestible fiber derived from chicory roots, FOS (fructooligosaccharides) are one of the best-documented, natural nutrients for promoting the growth of Lactobacilli and bifidobacteria bacteria, a key to sound health. FOS has also been clinically studied for its ability to increase magnesium and calcium absorption, lower blood glucose, cholesterol, and LDL levels, and to inhibit production of the reductase enzymes that can contribute to cancer. Because FOS can increase magnesium absorption, it can also lead to lowered blood pressure and better cardiovascular health.

JuvaTone JuvaTone is a special herbal complex designed to support the liver. The liver is one of the most important organs of the body. It purifies the blood and is a key to converting carbohydrates to energy. An overtaxed liver may affect our energy, digestion, and skin. Fats and bile within the liver can easily become oversaturated with oil-soluble toxins, synthetic chemicals, and heavy metals. As toxins build, the liver becomes taxed and stressed, resulting in aggravating skin conditions, rashes, fatigue, headaches, muscle pain, digestive disturbances, pallor, dizziness, irritability, mood swings, and mental confusion. The liver also plays a major role in helping the body detoxify. The final products of digestion are transported through the portal vein from the colon to the liver to be cleansed.  Choline bitartrate has been used in the treatment of many liver disorders, including elevated cholesterol levels, viral hepatitis, and cirrhosis.

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia):  Medical Properties: Antiseptic, antifungal, analgesic, antitumoral, anticonvulsant, vasodilating, relaxant, anti-inflammatory, reduces blood fat/cholesterol, combats excess sebum on skin USES: Respiratory infections, high blood pressure, arteriosclerosis, menstrual problems/PMS, skin conditions (perinial repair, acne, eczema, psoriasis, scarring stretch marks), burns, hair loss, insomnia, nervous tension

Super B Super B is a comprehensive source of the B vitamins essential for good health, including, thiamine (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), niacin (vitamin B3), pyridoxine (vitamin B6), vitamin B12, biotin, folic acid, and PABA. It also includes minerals that aid the assimilation and metabolism of B vitamins.  Niacin is essential for turning carbo hydrates into energy. It lowers cholesterol and helps regulate blood sugar. At least 4.4 mg are needed for every 1,000 calories consumed to avoid pellagra.

Helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum) improves circulation and reduces blood viscosity. It is anticoagulant, regulates cholesterol, stimulates liver cell function, and reduces plaque deposits from the veins and arteries.

CardiaCare:  Nutritionally strengthens and supports the heart and cardiovascular system.

EndoGize A daily supplement expressly formulated to support and maintain a healthy and balanced endocrine system in women.  Contains many ingredients, including but not limited to Phosphatidylcholine, which makes cholesterol more soluble and less able to cause hardening of the arteries.

Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) reduces indigestion and helps regulate cholesterol. It is also antifungal, antiparasitic, antibacterial and helps cleanse the liver.

Grapefruit Essential Oil:  Israeli scientists may have discovered an effective new way to treat high cholesterol and diabetes naturally. Dr. Yaakov Nahmias from the Benin School of Engineering and Computer Science at Hebrew University and his colleagues have discovered that naringenin, a molecule in grapefruits that gives the fruit its bitter taste, can help to treat arteriosclerosis, hyper-metabolism, and even diabetes.  The study, which was recently published in the journal PLoS One, explains that when a highly-bioavailable ‘nano-complex’ of naringenin is consumed just before a meal that is high in fat and sugar, it can reduce the development of bad cholesterol by roughly 42 percent, and actually increase insulin sensitivity by 64 percent.

As you can see, Young living offers many natural alternative Therapeutic Grade Essential Oil products that promote lowering your cholesterol, along with a healthier lifestyle and food choices.  If you choose to go through the fast food drive through a few times a week, I suspect not much will help you lower your cholesterol, whether you’re taking a prescription or using a natural product.  Essential Oils do not come with a laundry list of side effects like cholesterol lowering prescriptions do!

I find it very interesting that our government has published well over 300 studies on using Essential Oils to lower cholesterol with positive outcomes.  I find this funny because they are using dried herbs in their studies,  not pure therapeutic grade essential oils.  Can you imagine how many more positive studies they would have if they were using Young living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, the real deal, instead of dried herbs with very little essential oil left in them?  I feel positive that they manipulate their results to continue to support the pharmaceutical industry, as no one in any part of our goverment wants to see the big pharmaceutical companies go broke.

I apologize for the length of these 3 cholesterol articles.  I wanted to give you all the information possible so that you can make a well informed choice when deciding what to do about your high cholesterol.

The Fluoride Controversy: Fluoride is a drug, do our children need it?  part 2

After doing some additional research, I found some shocking studies and research I would like to share with you.

I am a nurse, so things click for me when I read a technical article.  If I write something that you don’t understand, please contact me, and I’ll re-word it as best I can into non medical terms.

Every body contains a Pineal Gland, which regulates melatonin in the body.  It is a light-sensitive neuroendocrine organ attached to the roof of the third ventricle of the brain. The pineal gland secretes melatonin, other biogenic amines, and neuropeptides. If something is wrong with the Pineal Gland, something will become sick or malfunctioning in your body.  This is basic Fact.  The Pineal Gland is a small gland located between the two hemispheres of the brain that regulates the production of the hormone melatonin. Melatonin is a hormone that helps regulate the onset of puberty and helps protect the body from cell damage caused by free radicals.

Dr. Jennifer Luke from the University of Surrey in England (1997) has found that calcified pineal glands contain a huge concentration of fluoride: “In terms of mineralized tissue, the mean fluoride concentration in the pineal calcification was equivalent to that in severely fluorosed bone and more than four times higher than in corresponding bone ash, i.e., 8,900 ± 7,700 vs. 2,040 ± 1,100 mg/kg, respectively. The calcification in two of the 11 pineals analyzed in this study contained extremely high levels of fluoride: 21,800 and 20,500 mg/kg.” Fluoride and the Pineal Gland. As well as the hard tissue build-up, the aged pineal also contains more fluoride than any other soft tissue. However, in her later 2001 study, Luke says that “The high fluoride levels in the pineal are presumably due to the large surface area of the HA crystallites both intra- and extracellularly….There was no correlation between pineal fluoride and bone fluoride. Therefore, unlike bone, pineal fluoride concentrations are not indicators of long-term fluoride exposure and body burden. Pineal fluoride, however, was significant.” She concluded that the fluoride buildup in the pineal may affect melatonin synthesis”…………. “” an increased calcification of the pineal gland represents a decrease in the number of functioning pinealocytes, which results in a decreased ability of the pineal gland to produce melatonin.” see studies: Kunz 1999; Mahlberg 2009 for calcification causing reduction in melatonin production.”.

Journalist Christopher Bryson claims, in his book, The Fluoride Deception, “that since the Manhattan project in the 1940s, when fluoride was used for enriching the uranium that was to be used in atomic bombs, a propaganda project was started, to convince workers and locals to the Tennessee nuclear plant, that fluoride was not only safe, but was also good for children’s teeth. In the 1950s, the advertising spinmaster Edwad Bernays used the situation as an experiment in public gullibility, and the AMA started to endorse adding of fluoride to public water supplies. All studies that showed results contradicting the supposed benign nature of fluoride on health were effectively censored”.  See also the book by Barry Groves, Fluoride: Drinking Ourselves to Death

Other health side-effects include Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, Fluoride and liver cancer, Fluoride-cancer-connection, respiratory, immune system, brain (falling I.Q.shown in a Chinese study), memory, arthritis and bone diseases, Skeletal fluoridosis, kidney problems, reproductive problems, thyroid disruption, (as shown by the National Research Council in 2008) and more.   http://www.diagnosis2012.co.uk/new11.html#fluoridev

Dr. Mercola has cited some studies:  “Following the initial breakthroughs on the link between fluoride and pineal gland calcification, scientists began to examine the issue more closely. In 2006, the National Research Council (NRC) released its report: “Fluoride in Drinking Water: A Scientific Review of EPA’s Standards.”

“The NRC began working on the report in 2003 as requested by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in order to review the latest research on fluoride toxicity and assess the EPA’s current safe drinking water standards for fluoride. In 2006, the report was released with a summary that backed up the work of Dr. Luke and her research team who conducted the first experiment on the role fluoride plays in pineal gland calcification back in 1997. The summary was printed in the National Academies Press, Washington D.C. P221-22:”

“The single animal study of pineal function indicates that fluoride exposure results in altered melatonin production and altered timing of sexual maturity… Recent information on the role of the pineal organ in humans suggests that any agent that affects pineal function could affect human health in a variety of ways, including effects on sexual maturation, calcium metabolism, parathyroid function, postmenopausal osteoporosis, cancer, and psychiatric disease.”

One main role of your pineal gland is to produce melatonin, the natural sleep hormone that plays a vital role in your normal sleep function. Melatonin is not only necessary for proper sleep, it also regulates the onset of puberty and fights against harmful free radicals. When your pineal gland function is suppressed, melatonin production suffers and you are putting yourself at risk for a number of startling conditions including: Alzheimer’s disease, Circadian dysregulation, Insomnia, Bipolar disease, Hormone imbalances, low melatonin, and low back pain.

Thanks to research first conducted by the University of Surrey in England in 1997, it is now known that the soft tissue of the adult pineal gland contains more fluoride than any other soft tissue in your body. In fact, the levels of pineal gland fluoride examined in the study were high enough to inhibit enzymes.

When your enzymes are damaged, it can lead to collagen breakdown, eczema, tissue damage, skin wrinkling, genetic damage, and immune suppression. It can also cause problems with your:

  • Immune system
  • Digestive system
  • Respiratory system
  • Blood circulation
  • Kidney function

“Pineal gland fluoride levels were measured at 330 parts per million (ppm). The EPA currently sets the maximum allowed level of sodium fluoride in the drinking water at 4 ppm. This is nothing compared to the amount of fluoride found to be stored in the harder tissues of your pineal gland known as hyroxyapatite crystals. Fluoride levels observed in the hard tissue were found to be as high as 21,000 ppm. Hyroxyapatite crystals store more fluoride than any other hard tissue in your body, including teeth and bone.

The results were surprising even to the scientists on the research team. Animals treated with fluoride not only had lower levels of melatonin as expected, but female animals experienced an early onset of puberty. Due to the interference of melatonin production in the animals in response to the fluoride treatment, the hormonal triggers that are responsible for puberty were disturbed.”

Dr. Luke summarized the findings:

“In conclusion, the human pineal gland contains the highest concentration of fluoride in the body. Fluoride is associated with depressed pineal melatonin synthesis by prepubertal gerbils and an accelerated onset of sexual maturation in the female gerbil. The results strengthen the hypothesis that the pineal has a role in the timing of the onset of puberty.”

For the majority of people living in areas with public fluoridated tap water, fluoride is in our faces every day, it is a part of every glass of water, every bath and shower, and every meal cooked using that water.

Diagnosis

Your doctor will ask about your symptoms and medical history. A physical exam will be done. You will be referred to an endocrinologist. This is a doctor that specialized on glands and hormones. Tests may include:

  • Blood tests—to measure pituitary and other gland (prolactin, TSH, FT4, IGF-1, growth hormone, corticotrophin or ACTH, beta human gonadotropin, alpha subunit, estradiol, testosterone), hormone levels, blood sugar levels and to identify other underlying conditions that may be causing your symptoms
  • Urine tests—to measure excretion levels of certain pituitary gland hormones (beta human gonadotropin, cortisol)
  • Visual field tests—to check for problems with peripheral vision
  • MRI scan —a test that uses strong magnets and radio waves to create pictures of the pituitary gland near the brain

Special Tests

  • Glucose tolerance test—the standard test for acromegaly
  • Dexamethasone suppression test and corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) test—best tests to see if excessive secretion of hormones from the adrenal gland is due to a pituitary adenoma

Here’s the bottom line: If you or your child are experiencing any of the above medical problems, especially early puberty or sleep disturbances (insomnia), for your sake, get your pineal gland tested.  Doctors are very quick to treat our symptoms, but sadly more reluctant to dig deeper to get to the root of the problem, which, in all fairness to doctors, is not always easy to discover.  Don’t just medicate your symptoms, find out why they are occurring in the first place, and let’s fix that, so that hopefully there will be no symptoms that need to be medicated.

Aliss Terpstra states on the  Fluoride Poisoning Group,

“The least expensive lab test for fluoride is a 24 hour urine test in which a person collects their urine for a 24 hour period.  The fluoride concentration in the sample is measured using an ion specific electrode meter. A result of more than 1 ppm (1 mg/L) means there is fluoride overdose.”

“The most expensive yet accurate test is a fasting serum (blood) test, requiring a licensed medical professional to draw blood, and send it to a medical lab. It is almost impossible to request this test through normal channels such as a family doctor in any country where artificial fluoridation is done.”

“Doctors are taught that increased fluoride intake is beneficial, and elevated serum fluoride is not harmful until it is grossly high.  They believe there is no point in testing for serum fluoride unless the person has signs of acute fluoride poisoning with evidence of high exposure such as a workplace chemical spill or overdose from fluorinated drug or dental product. But even then, the toxicity will be underestimated and even scoffed at.”

“In theory, a medical doctor should be able to order several related medical tests that strongly indicate chronically elevated fluoride in the blood”

  1. Blood calcium level:  Any emergency room doctor would know to check this when someone arrives with symptoms of low blood calcium that may accompany heart attack or stroke – or fluoride poisoning.
  2. Urine test for increased bone collagen protein breakdown:  The results of this test can find evidence of bone loss – or chronic fluoride poisoning.
  3. Parathyroid Hormone (PTH): This blood test measures abnormal calcium metabolism – or chronic fluoride poisoning.
  4. Thyroid function blood tests: These blood tests measure evidence of hypothyroid function (such as increased TSH, change in ratio between Free T4 and Free T3) – or chronic fluoride poisoning.

One Reliable Test

“There is one reliable test that costs nothing except bottled water and doesn’t need a doctor. The test is to discontinue all known sources of fluoride, to consume and cook with only distilled water for 2-3 weeks and record what happens.”

One of three things will happen:
1. No difference, no changes: fluoride is not the issue.
2. A worsening of symptoms, followed by gradual improvement: you’re fluoride poisoned.
3. Dramatic improvement in symptoms:  you’re fluoride poisoned.”

Fluoride Controversy: part 2

Dr. Jennifer Luke from the University of Surrey in England (1997) has found that calcified pineal glands contain a huge concentration of fluoride: In terms of mineralized tissue, the mean fluoride concentration in the pineal calcification was equivalent to that in severely fluorosed bone and more than four times higher than in corresponding bone ash, i.e., 8,900 ± 7,700 vs.

This article is taken from the Essential Oil Desk Reference, 4th Edition.  I have posted this section of the book to educate people who have never used Pure Essential Oils, or use Essential Oils from a health food store or pharmacy.  Those oils are NOT Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, and can not EVER be taken internally because they are not pure, and are often precessed using toxic chemicals.  When I first started using essential oils, they did not work for me, and I didn’t understand why.  After all, I bought them from a reputable health food store, so I would’ve thought they were the real deal, right?  Wrong.   I’m a nurse, EMT, and Paramedic, and it took me years to become educated on the difference between grades and purities of essential oils, and  Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.  I don’t want you to take as long to find out, and hope this article can expidite educating you on the difference between the two.  They are like comparing apples and oranges, as they are not remotely the same.

Knowledge is power.  Empower yourself by reading what pure therapeutic grade essential oils are and can do for you.

Therapeutic-Grade Essential Oils

“One of the factors that determines the purity of an oil is its chemical constituents. These constituents can be affected by a vast number of variables, including: the part(s) of the plant from which the oil was produced, soil condition, fertilizer (organic or chemical), geographical region, climate, altitude, harvesting methods, and distillation processes. For example, common thyme (Thymus vulgaris) produces several different chemotypes (biochemically unique variants within one species) depending on the conditions of its growth, climate, and altitude. One chemotype of thyme will yield an essential oil with high levels of thymol, depending on the time of year it is distilled. The later it is distilled in the growing season (i.e., mid-summer or fall), the more thymol the oil will contain. Proper cultivation assures that more specific chemotypes like Thymus vulgaris will maintain a good strain of thymol, where as with wildcrafting, you may produce linalol and eugenol thyme on the same mountainside. An example of this was shown in studies at the University of Ege botany department in Izmir, Turkey, where it was found that among Origanum compactum (Oregano) plants within a 100 square foot radius, one plant would be very high in carvacrol and another would be high in another compound. Wildcrafting plants cannot guarantee the same chemotype even on the same hillside. The key to producing a therapeutic-grade essential oil is to preserve as many of the delicate aromatic compounds within the essential oil as possible. Fragile aromatic chemicals are easily destroyed by high temperature and pressure, as well as contact with chemically reactive metals such as copper or aluminum. This is why all therapeutic-grade essential oils should be distilled in stainless steel cooking chambers at low pressure and low temperature. The plant material should also be free of herbicides and other agrichemicals. These can react with the essential oil during distillation to produce toxic compounds. Because many pesticides are oil soluble, they can also mix into the essential oil. As we begin to understand the power of essential oils in the realm of personal, holistic healthcare, we will appreciate the necessity for obtaining the purest essential oils possible. No matter how costly pure essential oils may be, there can be no substitutes. Although chemists have successfully recreated the main constituents and fragrances of some essential oils in the laboratory, these synthetic oils lack therapeutic benefits and may even carry risks. Why? Because essential oils contain hundreds of different chemical compounds, which, in combination, lend important therapeutic properties to the oil. Also, many essential oils contain molecules and isomers that are impossible to manufacture in the laboratory. Anyone venturing into the world of therapy using essential oils must use the purest quality oils available. Inferior quality or adulterated oils most likely will not produce therapeutic results and could possibly be toxic. In Europe, a set of standards has been established that outlines the chemical profile and principal constituents that a quality essential oil should have. Known as AFNOR (Association French Normalization Organization Regulation) and ISO (International Standards Organization) standards, these guidelines help buyers differentiate between a therapeutic-grade essential oil and a lower grade oil with a similar chemical makeup and fragrance. All of the therapeutic effects of the essential oils in this book are based on oils that have been graded according to AFNOR standards.”

Using European AFNOR/ISO Standards to Identify Therapeutic-Grade Oils

“As previously mentioned, one of the most reliable indicators of essential oil quality is the AFNOR (Association French Normalization Organization Regulation) or ISO certification. ISO is the International Standards Organization which has set standards for essential oils, adopted from AFNOR. This standard is more stringent and differentiates true top quality essential oils from similar oils with inferior chemistry (For more information, see Appendix A). As Research Engineer at Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS), Dr. Hervé Casabianca–who holds a doctors degree in organic chemistry–worked with many of the finest European scientists and doctors in helping to create the AFNOR standards, and was a voting member of AFNOR at the time of the standards’ adoption. Dr. Casabianca recognized that the primary constituents within an essential oil had to occur in certain percentages in order for the oil to have predictable therapeutic effects. He combined his studies with research conducted by other scientists and doctors to create the AFNOR certification. Using these standards, many oils such as frankincense or lavender, can be checked to see if they do indeed have the proper balance of chemical constituents. If some constituents are too high or too low, the oils cannot be certified. For example, the AFNOR standard for Lavandula angustifolia (true lavender) dictates that the level of linalool should range from 25 to 38 percent and the level of linalyl acetate should range between 25 and 34 percent. As long as the oil’s marker compounds are within the specified ranges, it can be recognized as meeting AFNOR standards. As a general rule, if two or more marker compounds in an essential oil fall outside the prescribed percentages, the oil does not meet the AFNOR standard. A lavender oil produced in one region of France might have a slightly different chemistry than that grown in another region and as a result may not meet the standard. It may have excessive camphor levels (1.0 instead of 0.5), a condition that might be caused by distilling lavender that was too green. Or, the levels of lavandulol may be too low due to certain weather conditions at the time of harvest. By comparing the gas chromatograph chemistry profile of a lavender essential oil with the AFNOR standard, one may also distinguish true lavender from various species of lavandin (hybrid lavender). Usually lavandin has high camphor levels, almost no lavandulol, and is easily identified. However, Tasmania produces a lavandin that yields an essential oil with naturally low camphor levels that mimics the chemistry of true lavender. Only by analyzing the chemical fingerprint of this Tasmanian lavandin using high resolution gas chromatography and comparing it with the AFNOR standard for genuine lavender can this hybrid lavender be identified. Currently, there is no government agency responsible for certifying the quality of essential oils. The only recognized indication for quality in an essential oil is if it meets AFNOR or ISO standards. The therapeutic effects discussed in this book can only be achieved using essential oils which meet the AFNOR standards. In the United States, few companies use the proper analytical equipment and methods to properly analyze essential oils. Most labs use equipment best suited for synthetic chemicals–not for natural essential oil analysis. Young Living Essential Oils uses the proper equipment and has made serious efforts to adopt the European testing standards, widely regarded as the “gold standard” for testing essential oils. In addition to operating its analytical equipment on the same standard as the European laboratories, Young Living is continually expanding its analytical chemical library in order to perform more thorough chemical analysis. Properly analyzing an essential oil by gas chromatography is a complex undertaking. The injection mixture, column diameter and length, and oven temperature must fall within certain parameters. Unless someone has gone to France and Turkey as Gary Young has, and been trained in the analytical procedures of a gas chromatograph, they will not understand how to accurately test natural essential oils. The column length should be at least 50 or 60 meters. However, almost all labs in the United States use a 30-meter column that is not long enough to achieve proper separation of all the essential oil constituents. While 30-meter columns are adequate for analyzing synthetic chemicals and marker compounds in vitamins, minerals, and herbal extracts, they are far too short to properly analyze the complex mosaic of natural chemicals found in an essential oil. A longer column also enables double-phased ramping, which makes it possible to identify constituents that occur in very small percentages by increasing the separation of compounds. Without a longer column, it would be extremely difficult to identify these molecules, especially if they are chemically similar to each other or a marker compound. While gas chromatography (GC) is an excellent tool for dissecting the anatomy of an essential oil, it does have limitations. Dr. Brian Lawrence, one of the foremost experts on essential oil chemistry, has commented that sometimes it can be difficult to distinguish between natural and synthetic compounds using GC analysis. If synthetic linalyl acetate is added to pure lavender, a GC analysis cannot really tell whether that compound is synthetic or natural, only that it is linalyl acetate. Adding a chiral column can help, however, in distinguishing between synthetic and natural oils. This addition allows the chemist to identify structural varieties of the same compound. This is why oils must be analyzed by a chemist specially trained on the interpretation of a gas chromatograph chart. The chemist examines the entire chemical fingerprint of the oil to determine its purity and potency, measuring how various compounds in the oil occur in relation to each other. If some chemicals occur in higher quantities than others, these provide important clues to determine if the oil is adulterated or pure. Adulteration is such a major concern that every batch of essential oil that comes into Young Living must be tested by highly trained independent European laboratories which utilize AFNOR standards. Batches that do not meet the standards are rejected and returned. Adulteration of essential oils will become more and more common as the supply of top-quality essential oils dwindles and demand continues to increase. These adulterated essential oils will jeopardize the integrity of aromatherapy in the United States and may put many people at risk.”

How Essential Oils Work

“Essential oils can work through inhalation, ingestion, topical application, or rectal/vaginal retention. Although topical use is perhaps best known, dietary use of essential oils may be one of the most effective ways of unlocking their health benefits. Many essential oils have been used as food flavorings or as a part of patent medicines for centuries, endowing them with a long history of safe use. Recent research suggests that certain high ORAC essential oils act as potent antioxidants that can actually raise antioxidant levels in the body and prevent premature aging. Many of the oils listed in this section are classified as “GRAS” by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This means they are “generally regarded as safe” for human consumption. An appendix of GRAS oils appears in Appendix C. Topical application is probably the most common means of using essential oils. According to researcher Jean Valnet, MD, an essential oil that is directly applied to the skin can pass into the bloodstream and diffuse throughout the tissues in 20 minutes or less. More recent studies have also documented the ability of essential oils to penetrate the stratum corneum (the upper layer of skin) to reach the subdermal tissues and blood vessels beneath.1,2Some of the compounds in essential oils that work synergistically to enhance permeation include alphapinene (frankincense, valerian, basil, cistus), betapinene (galbanum, hyssop, fir, rosemary), alphaterpineol (bay laurel, Melaleuca ericifolia, ravensara), 1,8-cineole or eucalyptol (Eucalyptus globulus, E. radiata, E. dives, rosemary) and d-limonene (white fir, tangerine, orange, lemon, grapefruit). Inhalation is also an effective means of therapeutically using and delivering an essential oil. The fragrance of an essential oil can have a direct influence on both the body and mind due to its ability to stimulate the brain’s limbic system (a group of subcortical structures including the hypo thalamus, the hippo campus, and the amygdala). This can produce powerful effects that can effect everything from emotional balance and energy levels to appetite control, heart, and immune function. (See Limbic System chart on page 2.) Some researchers believe that the inhalation of an essential oil can also enhance the body’s frequency, which can have a direct impact on disease. Disease and emotional trauma foster a negative frequency that may be disrupted or broken by essential oils. Oils with higher frequencies can elevate the entire frequency of the body whether topically or orally administered, thereby creating an internal environment that opposes the establishment of some disease conditions. 1. Recently I was making dinner, a healthier version of fried chicken cooked in a stainless steel long handled  skillet in the oven.  I put the skillet in the oven for 45 min. on 350 degrees, then on broil for about 10-15  minutes.  I opened the oven door with every intention of removing the skillet by the long stainless steel handle with my right pot holdered hand.  Before I could reach in, my 5 month old kitten jumped onto the small table next to the oven, and got into jumping position, about to jump into the oven, which was still on broil!

Without thinking, I threw my gloved right hand and arm up to block the kitten from jumping into the oven, and grabbed the handle of the pan with my completely unprotected left hand, which had no oven mit or pot holder on it.  My hand was completely bare.  I grabbed the pan handle, stood up, shut the oven door with my hip, and only then did I realize my hand was tightly wrapped around this 750+ degree metal handle, and burning, badly!

I dropped the pan on the stove top, ran to the sink, turned on the cold water and held my hand under it, screaming like a banchee the entire time.  By now I was crying, the pain was unbearable.  Some parts of my fingers were already turning white, and blistering.  The rest of my hand was fire engine red in color, and I could feel the temperature in my hand was still rising.

I continued holding my hand under the running cold water for about 10 minutes.  Then I filled a large bowl with very cold water and submerged my hand in itup past my wrist.  During the minute I had my hand out of the water to fill the bowl, I thought I was going to pass out from the pain.  The internal temperature of my hand was clearly still rising.  After about 10 more minutes of soaking, I refilled the bowl, adding 2 trays of ice to it to get the water temperature as cold as possible.  I asked my daughter to get me a full bottle of Young Living Lavender Essential Oil.  I added the full 15 ml bottle of therapeutic grade Lavender essential oil to the bowl of ice water.  As I stood there soaking my hand, my mind was racing….. was this a severe 2nd degree burn, or was it going to be a 3rd degree burn?  Either way, I was in trouble.  It was my hand, the thing we all use the most and can not be without.Lavender Essential Oil

By now it was 10pm.  My choices were to go to the Emergency room, or continue soaking my hand in the Lavender Essential Oil bath.  This was truely a crisis situation.  My extensive medical background told be to get to the local hospital for treatment, my Young Living Essential Oil background told me to stay put.  Young Living won.  I had my daughter carry the Lavander Oil ice bath back to my bedroom while I shuffled along, never removing my hand from the lavender bath.  I got comfy sitting up in bed with my bowl snuggled in next to me.  After about 1 hour, I removed my hand from the bowl.  My fingers were partially curled, my hand was a mishmosh of white and deep red patches.  After only about 2 or 3 minutes out of this bath, I could feel the temperature rising quickly, and again the pain became unbearable.  It felt as if my hand was quite literally on fire!

I plunged my hand back into the Lavander Ice bath, moving my entire arm to swirl the water around to keep the Lavander Oil well mixed.  I soaked my hand for roughly 4 more hours.  By now it was almost 3 am, I was exhausted.  I removed my hand from the Lavander Essential Oil ice bath, got a large sterile gauze pad, soaked the pad in more therapeutic grade Lavender Oil, placed it on the palm of my hand, (which was still curled as if still holding the pan handle), wrapped it on, and fell asleep, hoping for the best.

When I awoke a few hours later, I tentatively removed the gauze pad.  My hand was still very blotchy, but nothing like it had been when I first submerged it.  It no longer felt like it was on fire, in fact it was not painful at all.  Ok, what next?  I tried separating my fingers from each other…that didn’t hurt.  I tried straightening my fingers…that didn’t hurt.  I tried wiggling my fingers…that didn’t hurt.  So far so good.  I closely inspected the skin visually.  I just was not sure if I should touch it.  I was literally afraid it would slough (fall) off  if I did.  I got a new sterile gauze pad, put Young Living Lavender Oil on it, placed it on my palm and re-wrapped it, hoping for the best.

I left it wrapped up for 1 day, trying not to use it at all.  The next day, I unwrapped it.  It was like unwrapping a present on Christmas morning.  My hand looked perfectly normal!  There were no blisters, no red or white blotches.  Nothing at all.  It looked exactly like my never burned right hand!  Whoopee!  I could not believe my eyes.  No traditional medical treatment, no emergency room, no Silvadene Cream, no debridement.  Nothing except cold water and Young Living Therapeutic Grade Lavender Essential Oil.

It’s been about 6 weeks, and my hand still looks and feels as though it had never been burned.  My personal medical opinion is that this is absolutely nothing short of a miraculous recovery.  Every week I find myself grabbing a bottle of Young Living Essential Oil while in the midst of a crisis situation, and every time I’ve had a positive outcome.  What a blessing that I was able to avoid the infection riddled Emergency Room this time, as well as the money I saved by not being treated in a hospital.

I had a fantastic outcome to this very severe 2nd degree burn.  I do not recommend that anyone else try this with any other type of essential oil except the Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.  Those other health food store aromatherapy essential oils are typically garbage, you’re lucky if there’s actually 2 or 3 drops of actual essential oil in them, and they certainly are not Therapeutic Grade oils.  My response was as excellent as it was because I used the real thing… Young Living Essential Oils.  They are pure, undiluted, unadulterated Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.

What a relief to have such a wonderful treatment for this burn that was all natural, that I did not have to leave my home to treat, that I didn’t have to go wait in the emergency room for hours, being exposed to all types of germs, and at a very low cost to boot!  It cost me $20.00 to treat my burned hand.  That’s it.  The priceless part is that my hand was completely cured, no scarring, no blistering, and I have complete and total use of  and feeling in my hand as if it had never been burned, and that is priceless.

Although I have been a nurse for 30 years, I’m finding that I have a better outcome to burns and infections using alternative treatments, all of which include Young Living Essential Oils.

I hope my wonderful positive experiences will encourage others to step out of the circle of traditional antibiotic medicine and into the circle of all natural green eco friendly alternative medicine therapies.  If we don’t take charge of our own bodies, no one else will.

I highly recommend to all of you reading this that you keep a bottle of Young living Essential Oil Lavender in your First Aid kit.  None of us know when an emergency like mine is going to occur, that’s why they call it an emergency.

Do not expect to get these results with any other brand of Essential Lavender Oil.

I created an  ALL NATURAL DEET FREE CHEMICAL FREE ESSENTIAL OIL MOSQUITO REPELLENT SPRAY  *Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils and Insect Mosquito Repellent Spray.)

I created Skeeter Scram!  an all natural DEET free mosquito spray repellent made from organic essential oils only.  NO chemicals or fake fragrances, & very long lasting.  .  I would rather pay an extra couple of dollars for something that is going to work, and has no toxic side effects and doesn’t cause cancer in the long run.  Therapeutic grade Essential Oil Mosquito repellants have only beneficial properties, can be used on children, dogs and horses.  Wouldn’t you?  Why on God’s Green earth would anyone cover themselves in DEET, known to cause seizures, other neurological problems, and possibly death!  Use Skeeter Scram!! the ALL NATURAL DEET FREE CHEMICAL FREE ESSENTIAL OIL MOSQUITO SPRAY.  This spray is safe for use in horses, to help you prevent your horse from getting Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and can safely be reapplied as often as needed to both your horse and yourself.

Skeeter Scram! is a very long lasting mosquito repellent, and here’s the best part.  Many of my customers are telling me that when they are planning a dinner or party outside, they go outside before the party starts, and they spray the back of the chairs and the perimeter of their patio, & NOT 1 SINGLE FLY OR MOSQUITO COMES!!!! THEY NEVER EVEN HAVE TO SPRAY THEMSELVES!!!  And, they are reporting that 1 bottle lasts 6 months for the mosquito spray, 1+ month for the fly spray if you’re spraying horses every day!

VERY SCARY DEET INFO:

Up to 56 percent of DEET applied to the skin enters the bloodstream, and reactions to it include but are not limited to skin rashes, lethargy, muscle spasms, nausea, destroys your corneas, confusion, slurred speech and irritability to seizures and even death.

DEET can peel paint and melt plastic. It’s a great solvent, happily and gleefully eating polystyrene foam (like your helmet), stripping paint, and generally doing all the other things you can do with toluene.  It will also take the bugs off your windshield.  It will ruin your sunglasses INSTANTLY and irreparably on contact, and can not be inhaled, ever!

It is very highly toxic.  It should also not be used if you are taking any medication at all.

I have created an amazing mosquito repellent, available for retail purchase.

Skeeter Scram!  is available for purchase through Headandhoof.com, an all natural organic company..  This is an organic chemical DEET free all natural mosquito repellent.  Once you try this, you won’t buy anything else!

:~~A little info on Mosquito transmitted illnesses from the CDC~~:

Eastern Equine ENCEPHALITIS

Encephalitis in various forms such as St. Louis, Western Equine, La Crosse, Eastern Equine, and West Nile, which was recently discovered in the Northeast is endemic to the United States and increasing in incidence. Although extremely rare, Eastern Equine Encephalitis has a 30% – 60% mortality rate once contracted. Severe damage to the central nervous system occurs in those that survive the illness.

Western Equine Encephalitis

Symptoms range from mild flu-like illness to frank encephalitis, coma and death   Western equine encephalitis virus, member of the family Togaviridae, genus Alphavirus. Closely related to eastern and Venezuelan equine encephalitis viruses.   Symptoms range from  mild to severe neurologic deficits in survivors.  The total case costs range from $21,000 for transiently infected individuals to $3 million for severely infected individuals.  Insecticide applications can cost as much as $1.4 million depending on the size of area treated.  TRANSMISSION : Mosquito-borne.  RISK GROUPS : Residents of endemic areas and visitors,  Persons with outdoor work and recreational activities.  It is an Epidemic disease that is difficult to predict, Risk exposure increases as population expands into endemic areas. No licensed vaccine for human use.  No effective therapeutic drug

WEST NILE ViIRUS FEVER

West Nile Virus symptoms include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and rash, which are mild symptoms to severe symptoms that include neck stiffness, stupor, disorientation, tremor, coma, vision loss, and paralysis. These severe symptoms could last weeks or could be permanent. The onset of symptoms usually begins three to 14 days after a mosquito bite. Unlike Eastern Equine Encephalitis, 80% of the people who are infected with WNV will show no symptoms at all. 20% will show mild to serious symptoms. People who are mostly likely to show symptoms if bitten by an infected mosquito are infants, the elderly and people with auto-immune difficiencies.

La Crosse encephalitis virus (LACV) is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Most cases of LACV disease occur in the upper Midwestern and mid-Atlantic and southeastern states. Many people infected with LACV have no apparent symptoms. Among people who become ill, initial symptoms include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and tiredness. Some of those who become ill develop severe neuroinvasive disease (disease that affects the nervous system). Severe LACV disease often involves encephalitis (an inflammation of the brain) and can include seizures, coma, and paralysis. Severe disease occurs most often in children under the age of 16. In rare cases, long-term disability or death can result from La Crosse encephalitis. There is no specific treatment for LACV infection– care is based on symptoms.  The best way to reduce your risk of infection with LACV or other mosquito-borne viruses is to prevent mosquito bites. Use insect repellent, wear long sleeves, long pants and socks or even stay indoors while mosquitoes are most active. The mosquitoes that spread LACV are most active during the daytime.

Saint Louis encephalitis virus (SLEV) is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Most cases of SLEV disease have occurred in eastern and central states. Most persons infected with SLEV have no apparent illness. Initial symptoms of those who become ill include fever, headache, nausea, vomiting, and tiredness. Severe neuroinvasive disease (often involving encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain) occurs more commonly in older adults. In rare cases, long-term disability or death can result. There is no specific treatment for SLEV infection; care is based on symptoms. You can reduce your risk of being infected with SLEV by using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and staying indoors while mosquitoes are most active. If you think you or a family member may have SLEV neuroinvasive disease, it is important to consult your healthcare provider for proper diagnosis.

Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) is transmitted to humans by the bite of an infected mosquito. Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) is a rare illness in humans, and only a few cases are reported in the United States each year. Most cases occur in the Atlantic and Gulf Coast states . Most persons infected with EEEV have no apparent illness. Severe cases of EEE (involving encephalitis, an inflammation of the brain) begin with the sudden onset of headache, high fever, chills, and vomiting. The illness may then progress into disorientation, seizures, or coma. EEE is one of the most severe mosquito-transmitted diseases in the United States with approximately 33% mortality and significant brain damage in most survivors. There is no specific treatment for EEE; care is based on symptoms. You can reduce your risk of being infected with EEEV by using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing, and staying indoors while mosquitoes are most active. If you think you or a family member may have EEE, it is important to consult your healthcare provider for proper diagnosis.

MALARIA

Malaria is caused by a parasite that is transmitted from person to person by the bite of an Anopheles mosquito. Anopheles bite during the nighttime and are present in almost all countries in the tropics and subtropics.  Symptoms of malaria include fever, chills, headache, muscle ache, and malaise. In its early stages it can resemble the onset of the flu. These symptoms can develop 6-8 days after being bitten by an infected mosquito or as late as several months after the traveler has left the area.  Malaria can sometimes be prevented by the use of antimalarial drugs and protection against mosquito bites. Some estimates place 40% of the world’s population at risk for malaria. It is estimated that worldwide, malaria claims over one million lives annually. (World Health Organization 1989)

DENGUE FEVER

Dengue fever is primarily a disease of the tropics that is transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Aedes aegypti is a day-biting mosquito that prefers to feed on humans. It is also transmitted by the Aedes albopictus (also called the tiger mosquito). Those infected with dengue can suffer from a spectrum of illnesses ranging from a viral flu to severe and fatal hemorrhagic fever (DHF).

Our world has slowly but sadly become a toxic waste dump.  An even sadder fact is that we are often unknowingly polluting our own body with toxic chemicals in common products we use on a daily basis.  Most companies only care about the bottom line…their profit…at the expence of their customers health.  They use the cheapest ingrediants they can to make the item sellable to the public, which more often then not includes toxic chemicals known to cause cancer, as defined by the FDA.  These toxic cancer causing chemicals are in everything from deoderant and toothpaste to fly and mosquito repellant.

Mosquito spray has toxic DEET, fly spray contains toxic organophosphates and Pyrethrins, and something as innocent as antibiotic ointments have toxic petroluem jelly.  Cancer causing toxins are all around us, and we unsuspectingly use them daily, even when we think we’re using a healthier form of the product, even if we buy them in a health food store.

Our skin is the largest organ and system of the body (whether animal or human). Our skin breaths and absorbs all the things we put on it, as well as pollutants in the air.  Sadly this includes toxic chemicals, everything from soap, perfume and lotion to insect repellents.  Our skin absorbs up to 63% of every product we apply to it, and that includes toxic chemicals.  We are currently in fly and mosquito season.  I now refuse to purchase or allow the use of any insect repellant on the market, as they all contain cancer causing chemicals.  To make matters worse, none of these toxic fly or mosquito products have ever worked for us… EVER!

Aren’t you sick and tired of spraying yourself with insect repellents filled with poisonous toxic chemicals known to cause cancer, neurological problems and seizures? Ones that you have to go to the hospital if you accidentally ingest?   Ones that the DEP needs to be notified of if a drop gets into any water supply?   Ones that can not be applied to small children or your beloved pet?   If you wouldn’t consider directly applying cancer causing agents to your body, then why would you use the other toxic chemical repellents on the market, almost all of which contain DEET and/or Pyrethines and organophosphates?

Even the “natural” fly sprays on the market are not necessarily safe.  Most if not all of the natural insect sprays are toxic.  The word “natural” is very deceiving whether it is on a bar of soap, perfume, or a fly repellent.   Companies are basically allowed to label a product “natural” if it contains any naturally occurring compound (even if it’s been altered synthetically)!   Unfortunately, many popular companies use solvents to extract their oils (like hexane), and traces of those solvents can remain in the product.

Regarding the few companies adding essential oils to their products… typically they are using a completely inferior grade of oil, a fragrance or perfume grade essential oils, not a pure therapeutic grade essential oil.   These are typically adulterated, often containing 90-95% chemical solvents so that their cost is a fraction of what it takes to distill compared to pure therapeutic grade oil distillation.    A huge percentage of the approximate 4,000 chemicals approved by the FDA to “fragrance” products are known carcinogens and many may be labeled an “essential oil.”   If you’ve purchased essential oils from a health food store, go read the label.  Can you ingest it?  If not, there’s a good reason why… it’s not pure!

Young Living is one of if not the only company offering pure, organic, therapeutic grade essential oils.  Young Living Oils are so pure they can be safely ingested.  With over 400 oils to chose from,  there are many combinations for both you and your pet to safely use as an antibiotic, as well as for flea, tick, mosquito and fly control, with no toxic side effects, and certainly no cancer causing agents!

If you’ve never used Young Living Essential Oils, then you really need to do yourself and your loved ones a favor and find out about them.  They are so pure and highly concentrated that just a few drops goes a long way.  These oils are used to treat everything from Abcesses to Zest for life.

I am currently creating a few non toxic therapeutic grade essential oil products for you, your young children, dog and horse.  Look for my all natural fly repellant coming soon.

Spraying weedsYes, vinegar can be used effectively in the garden to kill weeds but there are things you need to know so that you don’t kill everything and ruin your soil. White vinegar works as a fungicide, a poison, a source of nutrients, and for cleaning tools and pots. Be sure to read my entire post here because there are two studies, cautions and dilution ratio’s to follow for best results and so you don’t ruin your soil (vinegar can change your soil pH) and any beloved plants. I will also cover 17 other ways you can use vinegar in the garden.

A little about vinegar: Vinegar results when just about anything with sugar is fermented to form alcohol and then is fermented again. Commercial manufacture was common by 2000 b.c. Making it at home has concerns because usually it will not reach strengths of more than 3 percent, making it unsuitable for canning and pickling (which needs an acidity level of at least 4%).

A Note on Acetic Acid: It is NOT Vinegar

The United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA) recognizes that diluted acetic acid is not vinegar, indicating that it is:

“…misleading if the labeling of a food in which acetic acid is used implies or suggests that the food contains or was not prepared with vinegar. Acetic acid should not be substituted for vinegar in pickled foods, which consumers customarily expect to be prepared with vinegar.”
