"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells from the face or body. Methods for exfoliation vary, from scrubs and masks to chemical peels, but the desired end result is the same; to remove dead skin and expose newer fresher skin. Be aware that some methods of exfoliation can be quite harsh to the face causing temporary redness or irritation, but good exfoliation need not be a painful or harsh experience.

The benefits of proper exfoliation can become part of your routine producing visible benefits which should start to appear after about two weeks of use. Some of the noticeable benefits are:

  • Improved skin tone and clarity.
  • Clearer pores and a reduction of acne.
  • Even skin coloring.
  • And a more radiant appearance.

Scrubs that contain fruit enzymes, such as Vitamin C or other antioxidants, or jojoba can add extra benefits, like; free radical protection and skin rejuvenation. It is best to avoid harsh alpha-hydroxy masks or painful scrubbing agents like apricot or nut shells on the face and neck area, as these will leave skin inflamed.

The key to keeping a youthful fresh look is as simple as exfoliating on a regular basis.

Tips for the Best Exfoliation Results:

  • Masks work better AFTER you have exfoliated.
  • Best results of exfoliation occur when you exfoliate 1-3 times a week depending upon your skin type; oily skin may need to be exfoliated 2-3 times a week, whereas those with delicate skin may only need exfoliation once a week. Do NOT exfoliate daily as it can dry and irritate facial skin.
  • Younger skin may only need exfoliation once every week or two.
  • Always use gentle pressure when exfoliating as even a fine exfoliation mixture can irritate skin if you press too hard.
  • Never use lesser quality essential oils in your recipes, make sure your source only produces superior therapeutic quality essential oils for the safest and best results. I use and recommend Young Living oils.

Papaya facial masks are very popular at spas and resorts. Papayas contain Vitamin C and Vitamin E, plus an enzyme that helps exfoliate and smooth the complexion. Gently rubbing the white pulp of raw papaya on the face can effectively help dry up pimples.

Fresh papayas are available at most grocery stores during the warm months. During out of season, let your Papaya ripen a few days on the kitchen counter before using in a facial mixture.

Papaya is used as an ingredient in many skin care products today and provides a “natural” face lift and rejuvenation brings a wonderful and natural glow to the skin. It is commonly seen in soaps, lotions, toners, moisturizers, facial peels, and many other personal care products. However, using a fresh Papaya is going to produce a much higher quality home-made product due to the lack of processing to make it into an ingredient to put into store-bought products. You will no doubt see much nicer results using fresh papaya.

Frankincense essential oil has been well-known for centuries for its healing powers. During ancient times frankincense was only possessed by those of great wealth, and even today pound for pound superior quality pure therapeutic frankincense is still more valuable than gold.

Well known for its positive effects on the motions, frankincense helps to relax muscles (terrific if your facial muscles hold your stress), and the natural compounds in frankincense are rejuvenating to cells.

3 Quick Facts on Frankincense Oil:

  1. Frankincense is a commonly adulterated oil. The frankincense resin that is sold in Somalia costs between $30,000 and $35,000 per ton. A great deal of time, 12 hours or more is required to properly steam-distill this essential oil from the resin, making frankincense oil very expensive. Frankincense oil that sells for $25 per ounce or less is cheaply distilled with gum resins, alcohol, or other solvents, leaving the essential oil laden with harmful chemicals. Sadly, when these cut, synthetic, and adulterated oils cause rashes, burns, or other irritations, people wonder why they do not get the benefit they expected and conclude that essential oils do not have much value.[1]Frankincense essential oil
  2. In studies conducted at Vienna and Berlin Universities, researchers found that sesquiterpenes, found in essential oils such as vetiver, patchouli, cedarwood, sandalwood and frankincense, can increase levels of oxygen in the brain by up to 28 percent (Nasel, 1992). Such an increase in brain oxygen may lead to a heightened level of activity in the hypothalamus and limbic systems of the brain, which can have dramatic effects on not only emotions, learning, and attitude, but also many physical processes of the body, such as immune function, hormone balance, and energy levels. High levels of sesquiterpenes also occur in melissa, myrrh, cedarwood, and clove oil.[1]
  3. Frankincense is edible and can be used as a supplement -however- not all frankincense can be ingested. This is one way I can very quickly determine whether or not a brand of essential oil is superior quality… simply look at the label, if the label states “Not for Internal Use” then you can be 100% positive that a particular company does not carry any superior quality essential oil, even if the label also states it is 100% pure and/or organic. Young Living’s frankincense can be used internally.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

You need not spend a small fortune to experience the benefits of anti-aging and wrinkle smoothing treatments that you can do at home. The easy tips and suggestions here will help you save money, encourage empowering self-help habits that will allow you to take care of yourself at home, and on occasion, have extra money to treat yourself to a massage or a day at the spa. Who said we have to make big sacrifices when finances are tight – all we need to do is get more creative!

Home Spa Tip #1: how to get expensive wrinkle cream results without spending a fortune!

First, you will want to start with a healthy-for-your-skin wrinkle cream, such as Boswellia™ Wrinkle cream -or- the ART Day Activator cream and the ART Night  Reconstructor cream from Young Living.

What each of these 3 wrinkle skin creams offer, pick one(s) right for your skin:ART Skin Creams and Boswellia Wrinkle Cream

  • Boswellia™ Wrinkle Cream - Boswellia™ Wrinkle Cream nourishes the skin for a smoother, more youthful appearance. Its primary ingredient methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) supports collagen to improve skin firmness and minimize fine lines. Essential oils geranium, myrrh, sandalwood, and ylang ylang soothe and soften the skin, while frankincense and wolfberry oil enhance collagen formation. This cream is a bit heavier texture, so use ONLY a small dab for best results.
  • ART® Day Activator (anti-aging skin cream) – An extraordinary day cream, the ART® Day Activator contains the superior Photolyase enzyme that uses visible light on damaged DNA. This light-bodied, water-based face and neck cream absorbs quickly and is perfect for wearing underneath makeup and sunscreen. ART® Day Reconstructor fact sheet.
  • ART® Night Reconstructor (night recovery moisturizer) Cream – The Night Reconstructor is a powerful night recovery moisturizer that contains the unique endonuclease enzyme. This medium-bodied, water-based face and neck cream contains enhanced moisturizers for maximum hydration. ART® Night Reconstructor fact sheet.
  • ART® Gentle Foaming Cleanser - This unique foaming cleanser was designed to clean the skin by gently removing oil, dirt, and makeup. Gentle Foaming Cleanser is formulated from naturally occurring sugars and contains ingredients that penetrate the epidermis to remove unwanted oils and impurities. This cleanser also includes a quartet of pure therapeutic-grade essential oils that were specifically selected for their skin-enhancing benefits, including DNA recovery. ART® Foaming Cleanser fact sheet.
Note: All of the Young Living creams are very concentrated, you will only need to use a small amount per application – Don’t use gobs like you would with other brands of wrinkle creams!

More info on the entire line of ART® Skin Care products (booklet).

The 2 Extra Special Wrinkle Ingredients

After selecting one of the skin creams, mentioned above, the next thing you will want to do is…

  1. Go to the store and buy some ‘Green Thompson‘ seedless grapes! The Green Thompson seedless grape is one of the ingredients found in the expensive wrinkle creams that gives those creams a boost.
  2. Optional: Order a 15ml bottle of Young Living Frankincense essential oil. I personally love including therapeutic Frankincense oil to my skin creams, like the addition of the Green Thompson grapes, Frankincense puts my wrinkle care regime over-the-top excellent! The addition of the grapes and Frankincense has a synergistic effect with any of the above anti-aging/wrinkle creams that makes me feel that I have not only the best wrinkle busting products on hand but that they also give me the results that would normally put such results way out of the ball park for most of us. Please do not use other brands of Frankincense essential oil, they are not the superior pure oil you wish to apply to your skin; if you cannot afford this super-pure essential oil right now you will be better off skipping this step until you can order a bottle, the last thing I want you doing is applying an adulterated oil on your skin!
Money Saving Tip: When you join Young Living consider becoming a wholesale customer, and to save even more while being a wholesale customer also consider joining the Essential Rewards program.

The Wrinkle Smoothing Regime

  1. Wash face with the ART Gentle Foaming Cleanser morning and night.
  2. Cut one of the Green Thompson grapes in half and gently crush it on your face and neck. Make sure that you get the “crows-feet” area and the fine lines around your mouth. Leave it on for twenty minutes, then rinse with tepid water and pat dry.
  3. Put 2 drops of the Frankincense essential oil in one palm, with finger tips dab the Frankincense oil onto face and neck (avoid getting into eyes). This step is for those who want an even greater boost to their wrinkle smoothing program.
  4. Next: Seal in the goodness and moisturize by applying either the Boswellia Wrinkle Cream, or the ART Day Activator, or the  ART Night Reconstructor. Note: Boswellia Wrinkle Cream is luxurious and very rich, you’ll only need a small dab to do your entire face and neck!

Repeat regime daily and before you know it… those wrinkles and fine lines will be hard to find!

8 Actions to Compliment Your Wrinkle Smoothing Skin Care Program

  1. Drink Water! Drink at least 8 glasses of water daily. Use your own tap water and get a filter that removes poisonous fluoride. Buying bottled water is not a good drinking water choice, nor is it sustainable.
  2. Eat Local / Seasonal Produce. Eat plenty of ‘locally grown’ seasonal organic fresh fruits and veggies. As much as possible, stick with local and seasonal produce, this will provide you with greater nutrition that your body needs and craves. Check out Local Harvest to find locally grown foods near you.
  3. Improve Your Digestion! Try the Young Living Life 5 probiotic, this is the first probiotic I’ve used that gives my digestion superior results.
  4. Eat Fresh Wild Fish 2-4 Times a Week! The health and skin benefits from pure wild cold-water fish that is handled properly, and their omega 3s and 6s, cannot be beat. This is the only place I ever buy seafood and fish; it is by far the best and comes recommended by leading natural health practitioner’s.
  5. Eat Grass-raised Meats! When you eat meats and chicken, only eat that which comes from grass-raised animals. This is a very important difference. The meat from animals that are grass-raised their entire life provide us with nutrients and health benefits that are not found in organic meats! This is where I buy grass-raised meats, they are superb and super healthy to eat – they are a whole different animal!
  6. Alkalize Your Body! Our diets and bodies have become too acidic. When we are acidic it allows all kinds of illness and disease to gain hold of our physical health. Cancer, yeast, and most other diseases cannot grow in an alkaline system! Two things that you can do to become less acidic are: a) drink a cup of fresh squeezed lemon juice upon rising in the morning, and b) take a bath in 1 cup of Baking Soda 2-4 times a week.
  7. Avoid Sugar and Sugar Substitutes! Americans consume way too much sugar which is contributing to a decline in health. The usage of sugar substitutes is not a healthy answer, as a matter of fact, sugar substitutes are shown to cause many health issues, obesity, and disease. When you want sweeteners, choose one of these options: raw sugar, raw honey, or Stevia (an all-natural no calorie sweetener that doesn’t cause illness and disease).
  8. Get Outdoors and Take a Walk! Spending time outdoors in the sun (without a sunblock/sunscreen) for 30-60 minutes a day (build up slowly to avoid sunburn though) does wonders for your skin and provides valuable free Vitamin D, which is not the same as a Vitamin D supplement. Most Americans are deficient in Vitamin D and we can get it for free simply by spending more time outdoors daily! Vitamin D from the sun may also prevent 16 types of cancer, including cutting breast cancer by 77% – so get outdoors more often and take a walk, it’s beautiful out there!

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Many of us make a particular gift in bulk every year for Christmas and hostess gifts to show our love and appreciation. To help keep you to your budget here’s an easy way to determine how much one drop of essential oil is going to cost when making your aromatherapy gifts.Essential oil used by the drop

Here’s how it’s done…

The price of your Young Living essential oil divided by one of these numbers, either…

  • 250 – the number of drops in a 15ml bottle, or…
  • 82 – the number of drops in a 5ml bottle

Let’s say you are a Young Living wholesale customer or distributor (learn more about those to save 24% off retail prices) and the total number of drops in your recipe is 10 drops of Peppermint essential oil (you’ve purchased a 15ml bottle), you would… divide the wholesale price by the total number of drops in either the 5ml or 15ml size bottles.

$19.75 (whsl cost of Peppermint oil) divided by 250 (# of drops in a 15ml bottle) = 0.079 cents per drop
