Aromatherapy is far more than scented candles and fragrance products. It is the act of applying topically and inhaling a specific type of essential oils, therapeutic-grade (the highest quality). Since the beginning of Aromatherapy, the practice has encompassed human pathology and the treatment of different conditions (emotional and physical) with essential oils. As Aromatherapy developed into a practice it adopted a holistic approach which encompasses the body, the mind and the spirit (energy).

Aromatherapy is a natural, non-invasive remedy system designed to affect the whole person, not just the symptom or disease. Aromatherapy can assist the body’s natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself through the correct use of essential oils. The benefits of aromatherapy are particularly noticeable when therapeutic-grade essential oils are used, providing a powerful aromatherapy benefit.

How Aromatherapy Works

When any scent or fragrance is inhaled, the odor molecules travel up the nose where they are trapped by olfactory membranes that are protected by the lining inside the nose. Each odor molecule fits like a little puzzle piece into specific receptor cell sites that line a membrane, known as the olfactory epithelium. Each one of these hundreds of millions of nerve cells is replaced every 28 days. When stimulated by odor molecules, this lining of nerve cells triggers electrical impulses to the olfactory bulb in the brain. The olfactory bulb then transmits the impulses to the gustatory center (where the sensation of taste is perceived), the amygdala (where emotional memories are stored), and other parts of the limbic system of the brain.

Because the limbic system is directly connected to the parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance, therapeutic-grade essential oils can have profound physiological and psychological effects. The sense of smell is the only one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, our emotional control center. More.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Cough and chest congestion can be very draining and put a hamper on our daily lives. Sometimes it catches us off guard and quickly takes over our ability to carry on as we normally would. It can last for a few days, a few weeks and unfortunately for some even longer.

However one may become inflicted with a bad cough and chest congestion it could be important to remember how it came about, so that you can avoid the onset again. The most important solution is resolving the discomfort as quickly as possible and hopefully without having to go to a doctor.

Natural alternatives and the ability to not have to rely on prescriptions or over the counter medications is one possible solution.  But where does one start?  Most importantly is being prepared and having in your medicine cabinet inventory on hand for the unforeseen circumstances that may come your way, like a cough or chest congestion.

Here is a list of essential oils and products for your medicine cabinet specific to chest congestion: Read the rest of this entry »

Vita Flex Technique means “vitality through the reflexes.” It is a specialized form of hand and foot massage that is exceptionally effective in delivering the benefits of essential oils throughout the body. It is said to have originated in Tibet thousands of years ago, and was perfected in the 1960s by Stanley Burroughs long before acupuncture was popular in Western medicine.

It is based on a complete network of reflex points that stimulate all the internal body systems. Essential oils are applied to contact points, and energy is released through electrical impulses created by contact between the fingertips and reflex points. This electrical charge follows the nerve pathways to a break or clog in the electrical circuit usually caused by toxins, damaged tissues, or loss of oxygen. As with acupressure there are hundreds of Vita Flex reflex points throughout the human body, encompassing the entire realm of body and mind that are capable of releasing many kinds of tension, congestion, and imbalances.

In contrast to the steady stimulation of reflexology, Vita Flex uses a ‘rolling’ and ‘releasing’ motion that involves placing fingers flat on the skin, rolling onto the fingertips, and continuing over onto the fingernail using medium pressure. Then moving forward about half the width of the finger, this rolling and releasing technique is continually repeated until the Vita Flex point, or area, is covered. This movement is repeated over the area three times.

When you performing the Vita Flex technique you affect everything in the zone (every point around it) because the energy travels along the meridians. Meridian lines travel vertically in the body. In Vibrational Medicine by Richard Gerber, MD (pages 121-126) Studies have proven that the meridian systems have their own ducts independent of the vascular and lymphatic systems.

10 Steps: to Perform the Vita Flex Technique Using Young Living Essential Oils

  1. While Vita Flex rolls the finger from the pad to the tip, Reflexology combines this with a glide. It’s called finger walking. You can practice this movement on your arm or your own foot. You will be rolling your fingers from the pad, to the tips, to the first set of knuckles in a nice evenly pressured rolling manner.
  2. Select the YL essential oil you wish to use and have it handy, with cap off (see suggestions below)
  3. Stand at the feet of the recipient, who is lying comfortably, and place the palms of your hands on the soles of their feet (with your arms crossed one over the other), lightly but firmly make contact with the soles of their feet, breathe in a relaxed and deep manner until you feel the connection with the recipient (this is usually a few minutes)
  4. When you feel the connection, slowly remove your hands, put 2-3 drops of the chosen essential oil in the palm of your non-dominant hand, then dip the fingertips of your dominant hand into the essential oil
  5. With your non-dominant hand cradle the heal of the recipient in your palm
  6. Place the pads of fingertips (that were just dipped into the essential oil) on the skin surface of the foot (applying firm but gentle pressure)
  7. Slowly and evenly go up onto your fingertips
  8. Using the same pressure and fluid motion, go from your fingertips down onto your fingernails
  9. From your fingernails, continue the motion until you come down onto the skin surface with your fingers until your first set of knuckles touch the skin surface, that has completed one motion
  10. Lift your hand slightly upward and reposition your finger pads about 1/2 inch from the point where they just were and start with step 1 again, perform this movement until the entire foot, or hand of the recipient has been completed (do not drag your fingers or pull the skin)

Tip 1: Vita Flex is best done with very short fingernails just like any form of massage or bodywork.

Tip 2: Practice the above steps on your own arm, hand or foot, so you get the idea of what it is suppose to feel like and so that you can obtain that nice fluid movement.

Vita Flex on the hands or feet is typically done in conjunction with and prior to giving a Raindrop Technique. However, Vita Flex technique is wonderful on it’s own.

Which Essential Oils to Choose

The Young Living essential oils that you would choose would be oils that correspond to the system of the body you wish to support. Rapid and extra ordinary results are experienced when combining essential oils with Vita Flex as it increases the effect of both.

Popular Essential Oils for Vita Flex Technique

Any of the essential oils on this list can be used alone or in combination. When used in combination, use one oil at a time. Choose the oil that best suits the needs of the recipient.

  • Clarity
  • Brain Power
  • EndoFlex
  • R.C.
  • Oregano
  • Di-Gize
  • PanAway
  • Peppermint
  • Relieve It
  • M-Grain
  • Aroma Life
  • ImmuPower
  • Valor

Additional Tips:

  • The skin on the tops of the feet is fairly delicate, if you are applying essential oils to the tops you will want to use a little carrier oil to dilute the essential oil(s).
  • Quite often we like to finish bodywork with peppermint as this can enhance the overall beneficial effects of the other oils and the Vita Flex Technique session.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

The following article by David Stewart, PhD is right on target with what I know and feel on a problem that plagues us today, MRSA. When I read, or write articles on illness, I feel even more grateful that I know about therapeutic-grade essential oils, such as Young Living Essential Oils, and how to use them; using them by the way is easy and extremely cost efficient when you consider the thousands, or hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on healthcare each and every year. The Essential Oils Desk Reference is the book most frequently used and recommended. Thus, I am delighted to spend so little on ‘preventing’ illnesses such as MRSA; yikes, just one look at the pictures below is enough to make me be super-mindful. What’s that saying, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of a cure” – only thing is, there is no cure for MRSA and there isn’t likely to be one coming from allopathic medicine. Therefore, I feel… “my 15ml bottle of R.C. or Lemongrass could mean the difference between a life with MRSA, or not.” And, you better believe I used my oils when I was in the emergency room!

Here is the link to an article I wrote last September on the study David Stewart is referring to in his article Essential Oils and MRSA a Study, I also discuss in that article what I did last spring when I went into the emergency room – I’m not going to take any chances!

Note to those who don’t know: all essential oils are NOT created equally, most are adulterated or extremely low quality. Do not expect to get the same results with brands that are not Young Living Therapeutic-grade.

Are Essential Oils a Cure for Monster Bacteria like MRSA?

by David Stewart, PhD

MRSA (pronounced “murr – sa”) is an acronym for “Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus.” While Staphylococcus aureus is a common and relatively harmless inhabitant in the nasal passages of 25-30% of people, the MRSA form of staphylococcus is not so benign and once entrenched it does not go away. MRSA is a monster bacteria created by the medical use of man-made antibiotics and antibacterial agents employed principally in hospitals. It was first detected in the 1960s, only a few years after a new semi-synthetic form of penicillin (Methicillin) was introduced.

Hospitals are where this germ originated and is still where it is principally found. However, since 1982 MRSA has been found outside of hospitals, first detected among drug users in Detroit. Since then it has worked its way into other parts of the community, including playgrounds and gymnasiums. Thus, we not only have HA-MRSA or “Hospital Acquired MRSA” but also CA-MRSA or “Community Acquired MRSA.”

The portion of staphylococcal infections in the U.S. due to MRSA has risen steadily at an ever-increasing rate from 2% in 1974 to 63% in 2004. Once MRSA has been acquired, it is usually remains with the infected individual for life and can be fatal. Medical science has no effective treatment for MRSA infections.

A Relative Contracts MRSA

As a case in point, I have a relative, a retired career military man, who accompanied his wife to a hospital for some routine tests for her (not him). He had a small open scratch on his leg. During his visit, he acquired HA-MRSA through that small scratch. His leg swelled up and became inflamed. To date, no treatment has worked in stopping the spread of the bacteria in his body. It has now infected his entire leg and has worked up into his groin. He has been hospitalized more than once for treatments, all of which have been ineffective. It has been five years since his fateful visit to the hospital with his wife and he still carries the infection, which is slowly spreading.

I mentioned the possibility of essential oils to him, but he is a relative of mine and, as many of you have experienced, we have no credibility with our relatives. (Mark 6:4) He is also a devout believer in allopathic medicine. Having a Cadillac insurance program from being a veteran, he is content to keep receiving free medical treatment, even though it is not working. Unless he eventually resorts to a non-allopathic solution, he will most likely suffer from this infection for the rest of his life and, perhaps, even succumb to it.

Will Medical Science Find a Solution to MRSA?

Since the pharmaceutical approach to resistant strains of bacteria is to develop stronger and stronger antibiotics, there a pharmaceutical solution is not likely to ever be found because any antibiotic stronger than Methicillin would be more likely to kill the patient than the bacteria. Vancomycin is another antibiotic nearly equal in potency to Methicillin, but it, like Methicillin, can also be lethal to the patient and has not been found effective against MRSA.

Since it was the plethora of man-made antibiotics and antibacterial agents employed since the 1950′s that were the creators of MRSA and other resistant strains of bacteria in the first place, it is not likely that any medicine synthesized in a laboratory will ever be a solution. In fact, additional more powerful man-made drugs would most likely result in giving birth to even more virulent microorganisms. MRSA is a Frankenstein of the Medical System’s own creation. The solution to MRSA must come from outside the medical paradigm.

Are Essential Oils Effective Against MRSA?

Since Modern Medicine has no cure for MRSA and is, in fact, the cause of MRSA, the most likely means to combat MRSA is essential oils, which are among the most versatile and effective antimicrobial agents known. Not only do essential oils have powerful antibacterial properties without side effects, they are also incapable of producing resistant strains of bacteria as synthetic pharmaceuticals do.

There are two reasons essential oils do not and cannot create resistant strains of bacteria:

(1) Essential oils are extremely complex, comprised of hundreds of compounds, while laboratory-produced medicines are simple, usually consisting of only one or two active ingredients. Thus, bacteria have less difficulty in breaking the codes of a man-made medicine than in attempting to form a resistance to a natural medicine like an essential oil.

(2) Furthermore, essential oils are never twice the same while every batch of a pharmaceutical drug is always the same, reproduced with laboratory exactness. Hence, with repeated exposure to the same identical drug, bacteria eventually figure out its toxic properties and develop resistance. However, since essential oils are never identical from year to year, even if bacteria did figure out an oil’s effective components in a given year, they would have to start all over with the next crop.

The reason essential oils are not exactly duplicatable is because they are products of the vagaries of nature. The essential oils of a plant vary to adjust to their environment, just as human blood adjusts from morning to evening, from season to season, and from climate to climate. A plant’s oils are actually different from morning to night each day and from week to week throughout the growing season. Furthermore, the growing environment for a plant is never the same year to year. Some years are warmer than others, some cooler, some with more rain, some less, and if you compare the same species grown in different latitudes, altitudes, climates, and soils, you get even greater variations.

A basil plant will always produce a basil oil with the same suite of compounds, but from year to year and place to place, the relative proportions of the hundreds of compounds comprising basil oil will be different. Essential oils are like fine wines. Since no two years are the same, neither are two year’s wines the same even from the same vineyard. That is why vintners put dates on their bottles, since each year’s wine will a little different in taste, color, and fragrance.

Therefore bacteria will never figure out nor become resistant to an essential oil because they are too complex and because they are always changing. Man-made medicines are temporary, but God’s medicines are forever. Hospitals used to use the Oil of Onycha (Styrax benzoin) [Onycha is found in the "Tweleve Oils of the Ancient Scripture" collection, it is not sold individually] dissolved in alcohol (called Tincture of Benzoin) as their most effective antiseptic and antibacterial agent to cleanse and sanitize their wards.

If hospitals and medical doctors would have continued to use natural agents like Onycha, we would not have resistant strains of bacteria, such as MRSA, to threaten us today.

The Versatility of R.C. [essential oil]

R.C. Essential Oil Blend has been applied successfully for pneumonia, for dissolving calcium deposits in joints, and to stop snoring, although its primary purpose was to relieve “Respiratory Congestion.” That is what the initials, “R.C.,” stand for. RC has been effective with many forms of congestion including colds, bronchitis, sore throats, sinusitis, coughs, lung infections, and respiratory allergy symptoms.

However, in a series of laboratory tests at the Young Living Laboratory and Weber State University in Utah (See citation below, see my article on the study here), of 91 single essential oils and 64 essential oil blends, while Lemongrass was found to be the most effective single oil, R.C. was found to be the most effective blend.

Seventy-eight of the 91 single oils tested showed measurable inhibitory activity against MRSA. The top ranking oils, in descending order of effectiveness, were Lemongrass (Cymbopogen flexuosus) [article on lemongrass], Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora), Mountain Savory (Satureja montana), Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum verum), and Melissa (Melissa officinalis). The most effective single oil, Lemongrass, completely inhibited all MRSA growth on the test plate.

Since Tincture of Benzoin (containing Oil of Onycha) used to be the principal antibacterial cleansing agent used in hospitals, as mentioned above, it would be interesting to see how Onycha measures up in killing the MRSA bacteria. Unfortunately, this study of 91 single oils did not include Onycha.

Fifty-two of the 64 blends tested showed measurable inhibitory activity against MRSA. The top three ranking oils, in descending order of effectiveness, were R.C., Motivation, and Longevity. The most effective blend, R.C., also completely inhibited all MRSA growth on the test plate.

R.C. is a blend of 10 species, including three species of Eucalyptus, as follows: E. globulus, E. radiata, E. citriodora [article on the types of Eucalyptus], Myrtle (Myrtus communis, not Lemon myrtle), Pine, Spruce, Marjoram, Lavender [tips and testimonials], Cypress, and Peppermint. The Power of R.C. in combating MRSA is far beyond any of its individual constituents. In fact, two of the constituent oils (E. globulus and Myrtle) both scored zero in their ability to inhibit MRSA growth. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of R.C. as a blend was almost triples the effectiveness of the most powerful ingredient, which was Peppermint oil. This finding dramatically illustrates the power of oil blends over many oil singles. An oil blend usually has capabilities not manifested by any of its components, which is why blends are preferred by most aromatherapists for healing applications.

The same was true of Motivation, the second most effective blend. Motivation contains only four single oils: Roman Chamomile, Spruce, Ylang Ylang, and Lavender. Ylang Ylang, alone, had no inhibitory effect on MRSA whatsoever while the other three ingredients all scored less than half as effective as the combination of all four. Thus, the power of Motivation against MRSA was found to be greater than that of any of the individual species comprising the blend.

It is also interesting to note that the three most effective blends (R.C., Motivation, and Longevity) contained none of the five most effective single oils (Lemongrass, Lemon Myrtle, Mountain Savory, Cinnamon Bark [Cinnamon bark: does yours bark and benefit?], Melissa).

Can the Whole be Deduced from its Parts?

The conclusion is that one cannot deduce the properties of an oil blend from a knowledge of its components. Additional properties will always manifest in a blend that are not demonstrated by any of the singles that comprise it, while many properties of the singles do not manifest in the blend. This is why effective blends must be formulated intuitively and not by logic. All of Young Living blends were formulated by Gary Young, all by intuition, some even by way of intuitive dreams.

The same principle is true of single oils in that one cannot deduce the properties of an essential oil by knowing the properties of its individual compounds as isolates. Attempting to do so would be like trying to deduce the taste and texture of a chocolate cake from the taste and textures of the individual ingredients, viz. white flour, shortening, sugar, salt, eggs, baking powder, bitter cocoa, and vanilla extract. This is why scientific studies on the properties of isolated single compounds of an oil do not reveal the nature of the oil and why knowledge of a single oil does not reveal the nature of a blend containing that oil.

This principle is true even to the extent that a compound that is highly toxic alone can be safe, non-toxic, and therapeutic when occurring as an ingredient in an essential oil. Many aromatherapists who fear certain oils have been trained in a school that teaches the fallacy that properties of isolated compounds studied in laboratories apply to the natural oils in which they are found. Thus, many aromatherapists avoid perfectly safe and therapeutically effective oils because a laboratory has found one or more compounds in the oil that, by themselves, are harmful.

It is this fallacy upon which many aromatherapy books post lists of “forbidden oils, never to be used in aromatherapy for any purpose.” These taboo lists include perfectly good oils like cinnamon, clove, basil, oregano, mountain savory, birch, wintergreen, cassia, tansy, pine, and even benign oils like vanilla. Of course, adulterated oils improperly distilled and grown with chemicals and insecticides can possess toxic properties. However, if one uses only Young Living oils, which are pure, unadulterated, properly grown, and properly distilled, one need not worry about toxicity.

It is interesting to note that Thieves Blend, which is a favorite antimicrobial blend that has been shown to be effective against a variety of bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi, is not particularly effective against MRSA. In fact, it is less than half as effective as R.C. This is surprising since Thieves contains Cinnamon Bark oil, which is one of the top three effective singles against MRSA. Yet Thieves, as a blend, was only about half as effective as Cinnamon Bark oil alone.

Practical Implications

The data cited here were all done in vitro in a laboratory on cultures of MRSA on test plates. While most of the oils tested are considered by the FDA as “GRAS” (Generally Regarded as Safe) for oral ingestion, no essential oil has been approved by the FDA for human use to treat a disease. The data definitely show promise for the possible treatment or prevention of MRSA infections, more promise than anything medical science has been able to find thus far. Furthermore, applying Lemongrass or R.C. has no negative side effects like antibiotics and no toxicities to humans like synthetic antibacterial agents.

So how can you make practical use of the research cited above? For one thing, if you are going to visit a hospital or spend time in a hospital, cover the soles of your feet with R.C. or Lemongrass. Rub one or both of these oil on your hands as an “antimicrobial oil glove” so that when you touch doorknobs, hospital furniture, elevator buttons, or public telephones, there will be a thin oil barrier between you and any possible MRSA contamination. MRSA is primarily spread by contact and not as an airborne pathogen. You might exercise the same precautions as in a hospital visit when visiting a public gymnasium where you are sharing workout equipment with strangers. Then when you go home, diffuse R.C. or Lemongrass, scrub your hands, and face with soap to minimize any exposure you may have had with invisible MRSA microbes.

Better to avoid going into a hospital altogether, if possible. Hospital personnel and pastors who regularly visit hospitals are at particular risk, not only to themselves, but also to their families since they can potentially carry MRSA into their homes.

If you do acquire a MRSA infection, realize that the medical profession can do little, if anything, to help you. However, you can safely apply R.C. or Lemongrass locally at the site of the infection and in any other way deemed advisable, even internally. Additional research is going to be required to determine the extent to which essential oils can prevent and/or cure MRSA infections in humans. At this time, Lemongrass and R.C. have demonstrated the greatest promise of all possibilities in combating the spread of MRSA and of bringing relief to those who have already contracted it.

Personally, if I were to be diagnosed with a MRSA infection circulating in my body, I would head for Gary Young’s clinic in Ecuador where essential oils can be administered intravenously. This is the only place in the world where essential oils are administered directly into the blood stream. I would request an I.V. containing a suspension of R.C. and/or Lemongrass oil. The clinic routinely administers oils such as Frankincense, Helichrysum, and Thieves intravenously, but to my knowledge an R.C.I.V. has never been administered to date. But if my system was found infected with MRSA, I would be willing to be the first to receive one.

Thanks to the Researchers

The scientific data cited in this article are published in an article entitled, Inhibition of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) by Essential Oils in the Flavour and Fragrance Journal, 23:444-449, (2008). This journal is published by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The research was carried out, compiled, and reported by Sue Chao, Gary Young, Craig Oberg, and Karen Nakaoka as a collaborative project between the Young Living Laboratory, Lehi, Utah, and Weber State University, Ogden, Utah. The publication of this research is the first step toward FDA approval of essential oils in MRSA prevention or therapy.

This type of research is highly hazardous to those who engage in it since you are working closely with a potentially deadly microbe or one that can infect you for life. Great precautions must be taken to minimize any possibility of infection among the researchers and laboratory staff. I want to personally thank the individuals named above who took a risk on behalf of humanity to provide us with this valuable information.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

The Young Living blend R.C. to me is perhaps as useful as their blend Thieves. During the winter whenever I feel a bit congested or have a nasal drip I rub a couple drops of R.C. on my chest – I do not wait until I’m feeling lousey or to the point where I’m saying, “nuts, I think I’m coming down with a cold.” Other times, when I feel like the congestion is a little heavier I add a couple drops of Cypress to my R.C. and rub that on my chest.  rc

R.C. contains some very powerful therapeutic-grade essential oils that are invigorating when applied topically to the chest, or upper back / lung area. R.C. os also a terrific essential oil to diffuse in a cold-air nebulizer diffuser during the winter as it is extremely good at killing airborne bacteria.

For Topical Use: Apply R.C. to the chest, neck, edges of the ear (pressure points, NOT directly in the ear), and to the soles of the feet. It can also be used in conjuction with a compress on the chest and back and is particularly effective when used in an alternating manner with the blend Raven.

Dilution with a carrier oil, such as V-6 Massage Oil, is recommended – particularly when used on delicate areas of skin (neck, genitals, face).

Avoid using R.C. topically on infants and small children.

I’m also rather partial to R.C. because of the results of a study regarding MRSA (Staph Infection). I added it to my Thieves Waerless Hand Sanitizer when I had to go to the emergency room last spring for a very bad ankle injury – you can read about that and the study here if you like.

R.C. is one essential oil that I always have in my first aid kit, it’s vesatility and power make a a true favorite of mine.

R.C. contains the therapeutic-grade essential oils of: Eucalyptus globulus, Myrtle (Myrtus communis), Pine (Pinus sylvestris), Marjoram (Moriganum majorana), Eucalyptus radiata, Eucalyptus citriodora, Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia), Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens), Tsuga (Tsuga canadensis), and Peppermint (Mentha piperita).

Di-Gize – The oils in this blend are to assist in relieving digestive problems.  Apply oil on stomach and massage or place a compress on the stomach. Apply Di-Gize to the bottoms of feet.  Great for stomach ailments, digestion issues, constipation, heartburn, IBS, diarrhea, and food poisoning. The oils in Di-Gize are also anti-septic and can be used on cuts and other minor injuries.*

Massage a drop or two on the outer ear to help alleviate morning sickness.*

Di-Gize may also be used to dispel parasites in animals. Apply to their feet or one drop on their back and massage.  Massage on their tummy placing a compress on the tummy to chase the parasites away that animals may have.*

EndoFlex – Diffuse or directly inhale. This blend may help overall vitality. It contains oils associated with hormonal balance, improving and balancing metabolism, and weight control.*

Add 2 drops to a bath to relax. EndoFlex may also be applied over the thyroid, adrenals, kidneys, liver or bottoms of feet. Endoflex may help with hot flashes.  Three drops under tongue daily may help to increase metabolism.*body-systems-foot-chart

I have used it by applying it over the kidneys and bladder for infection and have found I had great relief for bladder infection.  To get a great effect from EndoFlex for weight control, apply to the gums and over the thyroid.

JuvaFlex-Supports liver and lymphatic detoxification.  Anger and hate are stored in the liver creating toxicity and leading to sickness and disease.  JuvaFlex may help break additions to coffee, alcohol, drugs, and tobacco.*

Apply over the liver area, foot Vita Flex points, or use in compress.*

Melrose – A strong topical antiseptic that cleans and disinfects cuts, scrapes, burns, rashes, and bruised tissue.  It may help regenerate damaged tissue and reduce inflammation.   It may help prevent growth of bacteria, fungus, or infection.*

Diffuse or place a tissue with a few drops of Melrose directly in front of humidifier – but do not put drops of this oil or any essential oil in the humidifier water.  You may also put a few drops in a bowl of hot water and cover your head with a towel, making a tent over the bowl so you can inhale the steam.*

Apply Melrose behind the ear and down the throat for earaches and phlegm in throat. Melrose may also be good for skin rashes.*

Apply under ears for airplane ear popping and aches.*

Melrose is very strong in the regeneration of damaged tissue and may help fight infections and fungus. It is very beneficial for animals such as horses, dogs and cats in the same way it benefits humans. Use Melrose for ear and eye infections on cats and dogs. Just make sure that you don’t get it in the eye, so apply the oil to your finger and rub your fingers together and then rub around the eye. That way your finger is not to wet with oil and less of a chance of it leaching back into the eye.*

Melrose may also help with ear infections and infected cuts.

Raven - Diffuse or humidify. Add 2-4 drops to bathwater. Apply to throat and lung areas and to the bottom of the feet. Use with a carrier oil and then apply a warm compress over lung area, paying attention to your skin for sensitivity.*

Raven contains Ravensara, a powerful anti-viral oil, known as the oil that heals, to the people of Madagascar . Summer mosquitoes can carry the West Nile virus, plus who knows what else. Wear daily on the bottom of the feet*

Great for allergies – apply to base of neck each morning and evening.*

Another way to use Raven is to apply Raven on the back and R.C. on the chest using a warm compress with R.C. only, and then the next time apply Raven on the chest and R.C. on the back with a warm compress only. Raven and R.C. are great companions together. The combination of Raven gives strength in fighting respiratory problems such as pneumonia, tuberculosis, bronchitis, asthma and infectious.*

R.C. – Diffuse, humidify or direct inhalation. R.C. may help give relief from colds, bronchitis, sore throats, sinusitis, coughs and respiratory congestion.  De-congests sinus passages, combats lung infections, and may relieve allergy symptoms.*

Apply R.C. to the chest, throat, and under ears or over sinus area. R.C may be used as a warm compress on the chest*

R.C. is also great for bunions and bone spurs.*

Put 3-4 drops of R.C. in 1/2 cup of hot water, hot enough so it doesn’t burn the finger and place the cup close to the nose and mouth and cover head with a towel and inhale the moisture and aroma and it may pull a person out of an asthma attack*

When applying R.C. to the chest and the ball of the foot, which is the reflex points for the lungs, if you want to increase that oxygen, apply marjoram on top of the R.C.  This drives the R.C. into the smooth muscle of the lungs.*

R.C. along with Idaho Balsam Fir helped to dissolve a bone spur on my heel. Why Idaho Balsam Fir??  Because it has a natural cortisone-like action which doctors give to their patients before they will do surgery on the spur. That was the only way I could get it to dissolve.*

Thieves - This blend of therapeutic-grade essential oils was tested at Weber State University for its potent anti-microbial properties. It was found to have 99.96% kill rate against airborne bacteria. The oils are highly anti-viral, anti-septic, anti-bacterial, anti-infectious and may help to protect the body against such illnesses as flu, colds, sinusitis, bronchitis, pneumonia, sore throats, cuts, and infections.*

Diffuse for 15-30 minutes every 3-4 hours when someone in the house is sick. Apply to the bottoms of the feet twice per day. Apply diluted to throat, stomach, abdomen, chest, and over thymus gland. Put 4-8 drops on a cotton ball and place over A/C vent and vehicle vents. A drop or two on a Thieves soft lozenge may stop the pains of food poisoning in a hurry. AND NEVER leave home without Thieves. It can save you much misery if you or a family member starts to get sick while on vacation. It may also help to pull splinters out.*

I have applied Thieves around an infected wound and the infection cleared up in a day. My friend had an abscessed tooth which caused the infection to go into the bone. In order to be able to get the Thieves into the bone, we applied Thieves on the gum and then wintergreen on top of the Thieves to drive the Thieves into the bone to be supportive to clear up the infection. *

For bronchial infection take two capsules of Thieves 3 times a day to get rid of a bad bronchial infection.*

Note: All essential oils are NOT created equal. Most essential oils are of lower quality. Therefore, do NOT use the information provided here for other brands. Learn why quality is so important.

Note: To make a warm compress – take a wash cloth and run under hot water, wring out excess water, apply oil to chest, cover with the warm wet wash cloth and then cover with folded bath towel to keep in heat.

Also if you wish you can use a bowl filled with hot water and add 5-8 drops of oil to it, then lay the cloth over the water and oils and let soak up into the cloth, wring out and apply to location of where you want the hot compress. Make sure the water is hot enough, but not too hot that it burns your fingers.  If it is too hot it will fracture the molecules of the oils.

rc“A few months back, my husband was doing some welding with a cutting torch. He remembered cutting some iron that seemed to have some kind of coating on it, but he didn’t think much of it at the time. That night  he woke up with terrible chest pains. Now my husband is far from a wimp, he never even woke me up to tell me he was having pain.  He is the type of guy where if he says something hurts, then it must really hurt! He told me the next morning though that he could barely breathe, it was so bad. All he could do was take little short breaths.

He had heard me speak before of R.C. and how the Essential Oils Desk Reference recommends it for chest conditions, and so he found the bottle and rubbed it all over his chest and neck, and he even put a couple drops in a glass of water and drank it (it is only listed to be for aromatic and topical use).  Then he cupped his hands over his face and inhaled what was left on his hands. Within moments, he was able to start breathing a little more deeply. The pain subsided greatly, and soon he could breathe normally and was able to go back to sleep. He woke up the next morning feeling just fine again.

R.C. is a wonderful blend that we use at least weekly for some reason or another. We live in one of the worst allergy states there is due to pollen and soy/corn dust, and we find R.C. to be an inexpensive, pleasant and effective way to deal with allergy symptoms. R.C. has even been tested and found effective at killing MRSA (1), as well as being suggested for colds, congestion, allergies and so on (2). I diffuse it quite often with my cold air diffuser that puts it into the air of our home. Consisting of pure, therapeutic grade oils of four different types of  eucalyptus, as well as myrtle, pine, spruce, marjoram, lavender, cypress, and peppermint, this wonderful oil is amazing diffused, and applied. Note! Drinking R.C. in water is not listed as a way to use it because two of the eucalyptus oils in it as well as the pine and cypress oil have not been tested for internal use, so I do not know how safe this is to do! I myself have done this for years with benefits, but I do not suggest doing it for others without doing your own further research! Another good blend that may be of benefit in situations like this that is listed for internal use is the Thieves blend.” ~ Shayla

Note! Never, ever take non-therapeutic grade oils internally! Read why therapeutic grade oils  are the only safe ones to take internally HERE.
