It’s only Wednesday, but your body feels like it’s Friday night, 10pm.  You’re exhausted, and everything you own hurts, from your 10 little piggies to the top of your head.  You’re  balancing your checkbook in your head, figuring out the food shopping list, and dreading the weekend cleaning and chores.  As you slip into bed, wondering if you can shut your brain off long enough to get a few hours of sleep, you realize your feet really do hurt, your back is quite sore, and your neck and shoulders are stiff as a board, holding all of your tension.  Great, now what do you do?

A full body massage would be heavenly, but it’s 10pm, so that’s not happening.  Well, if you enjoy the benefits of Young Living essential Oils, you’ve most likely got a case full of oils sitting at the ready.  Now what do you do?   A foot or hand massage is a quick,  fantastic idea, and, if you’ve got a partner or child old enough, they can give you a back, neck, head, hand or foot massage.  But, which essential oils are the best essential oils for your foot or hand massage?

My personal favorite is a foot massage, every time.  We take our feet for granted, they get us where we need to go, and then we promptly forget about them.  We carry a lot of stress in our feet, but really,  very few of us pay them any attention at all.   I can promise you, if you get a foot massage, it feels so good that it can and will relax our whole body, and you’ll want one every day.  When I’m alone, I use a tennis ball or my nubbed hand held back massager to do my feet.  Read the rest of this entry »

Chris Packer, a Young Living farm manager, with Gary Young checking the worm grow beds to see the growth rate; the finished worm castings are mixed with compost for fertilizer and foliage feed for the plants grown on the Young Living farms, the plants that produce essential oils for us. This is just one  sustainable and organic practice that makes Young Living a top quality organic operation.Young Living Farm Worm Casting Beds

Why something like worm beds and other practices are important to know is because over our lifetime what we do today greatly determines our health in the future, which can save money in health care costs. First, we need to know the nuts and bolts, what has changed, what’s being done, and what we can do about it. Here are some examples that can help us make better choices in selecting which company(s) produce foods and products that we can feel good about buying. Let’s start with something Dr. Mercola writes to bring things into perspective:

Dr. Mercola writes;

“[one example] is Stonyfield Farm yogurt, which abandoned its organic farm in New Hampshire long ago and now gets its milk in powdered form. Yes, you read that correctly:

Powdered milk exported from 9,000 miles away in New Zealand.

You can bet your bottom dollar making powder out of milk is one of the worst things you can to do to it after pasteurization. Nearly all of the biologic value of the milk is removed.  Read the rest of this entry »

Aria and TheraPro essential oil diffusersDuring the winter months there is usually a higher amount of air pollution and bacteria in the air than at other times of the year due to an increase in the closed doors and windows and the fact that cold air keeps air pollution closer to the ground. This increased pollution can lead to respiratory issues for some. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of pure therapeutic-grade essential oils, along with the negative ions and oxygenating molecules which are released when essential oils are diffused all help to reduce bacteria, odors in the air. Therapeutic-grade essential oils never mask odors, they purify the air of odors and bacteria causing germs. When higher quality essential oils are diffused the results go beyond basic aromatherapy!

Pure Therapeutic-grade Essential Oils Recommended for Indoor Air Purification

  • Single Essential Oils: cypress, eucalyptus, fir, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, and rosemary.
  • Essential Oil Blends: Thieves, R.C., Purification, and Citrus Fresh.

Diffusers and Diffusing

The Aria Ultrasonic Diffuser (above left) (#4524) emits a fine mist of essential oils that stays suspended in the air. It is a perfect natural alternative to synthetic air fresheners. By breaking up a mixture of water and essential oil into millions of micro-particles, the Aria disperses an aromatic mist into the air, activating the beneficial constituents found in Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils.

The TheraPro Premium Diffuser (above right) (#4495)  is designed to disperse essential oils in a micro-fine vapor (without containing water) so the essential oil stays suspended for several hours. The TheraPro Premium Diffuser disperses the oils without heating them (heat destroys the therapeutic compounds), so the essential oils retain their therapeutic benefits.

Experiencing the physical and psychological benefits of aromatherapy diffusing in your home is amazing and you may wish that you had started doing this much sooner.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Aromatherapy is the inhalation of plant oils, called essential oils. The simple act of breathing, inhaling, the scent of therapeutic-grade essential oil can be for such purposes as; improved physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Essential oils are the pure essence of the plant—often referred to as nature’s living energy—and can provide both psychological and physical benefits when used correctly. Essential oils can be used on their own for aromatherapy or with complementary natural ingredients, such as vegetable or a carrier oil when applied to the skin.

The Science of Aromatherapy

When a Young Living essential oil is diffused, it’s inhaled and processed through the olfactory system, which then sends the therapeutic benefits of the aroma to the brain. Depending on the specific constituents in the essential oil, you may begin to feel the release of negative emotions, the soothing of undue muscle tension, or experience the cleansing effect of the oils as your body eliminates toxins. More on Olfactory.

Aromatherapy for Improved Health and Wellness

Aromatherapy is one of many ways you can enjoy the therapeutic benefits of essential oils. When practicing aromatherapy it’s vital that only pure, undiluted essential oils are used. Synthetic, perfume-grade products lack the necessary level of beneficial constituents and offer little or no positive effect.

Only by diffusing pure Young Living Therapeutic Grade™ essential oils can you create a proper mood, state of mind, or improve your physical well-being. More on distinguishing high quality from poor.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Producing pure unadulterated essential oils is very costly. It often requires several hundred or even thousands of pounds of raw plant material to produce a single pound of essential oil. For example, it can take 2 – 3 tons of melissa plant material to produce one pound of melissa essential oil. Its extremely low yield explains why it sells for $9,000 to $15,000 per kilo.

Likewise, it takes 5,000 pounds of rose petals to produce approximately one pint of rose oil. It is not difficult to understand why this quality of essential oil is expensive. You do in fact get what you pay for when it comes to essential oils.

The vast majority of essential oils are produced for the perfume industry, which is only interested in their aromatic qualities, rather than the plants therapeutic benefits. Therefore it is not important if the finished product contains impurities, chemicals, or if all of the plant compounds are present.

Perfume oils and most aromatherapy products use the lesser quality essential oils so their price point is lowered for the consumer and so profits are higher for them. Which makes me take pause and think about how if we, as consumers, were not of the mindset that everything having to be cheap enough that we might be living in a world where most things made actually were only of the best quality with care for our health… how different store shelves would look and how much better we would feel.

High pressure, high temperatures, and the use of chemical solvents are used in the distillation process for the perfume industry to produce greater quantities of oil in a shorter time. Some of those solvents are: hexane, di-methylene chloride, and acetone.

To most people, these oils carry a pleasant aroma, but they lack true therapeutic properties. Many of the important chemical constituents necessary to produce therapeutic results are either flashed off with the high heat or are not released from the plant material.

In addition to poor distillation processing an essential oil can be further ruined by being adulterated and diluted down with any number of other substances. While this may be terrific for company profits, it’s horrible for consumer use because those chemicals are absorbed through the skin and through inhalation.

The temperature and pressure levels during steam distillation can enhance or destroy the beneficial healing properties of the essential oil. The operator of the distiller must have a full understanding of the value of essential oils in order to produce quality essential oils. If the pressure or temperature is too high, it may change the molecular structure of the fragrance molecule, altering the chemical constitu! ents. For example, the distilling process for lavender should not exceed three pounds of pressure, and the temperature should not exceed 245° F.

We are indeed fortunate to have superior essential oils from Young Living!
