Lotion and chemical products labelsYou haven’t been feeling well for a very long time.  You just don’t have the energy you used to have, your allergies seem to act up all the time, your headaches have become chronic, your joints and muscles hurt most of the time for no reason, and sometimes you have this tight feeling around your chest for no apparent reason.  You’ve gone to your doctor, who ran some basic blood work, and told you nothing was wrong, you don’t have Mono, you don’t have Lyme’s Disease, etc.  You think you’re crazy, but on a deeper level, you know you’re not making this stuff up, you really do feel terrible.  You continue searching for a diagnosis, maybe even going to a holistic doctor or an environmental physician.  Neither of these doctors think you’re crazy.  Instead, you’re  diagnosed with Multiple Chemical sensitivity, also called MCS.  Now you need to know what is MCS, how did you get it, and what can you do to feel better?

Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS) is a medical condition characterized by debilitating chemical sensitivities.  This is a very difficult diagnosis to make, and should only be diagnosed by a trained physician, such as an environmental physician.  Multiple chemical sensitivity, or MCS, as it is sometimes referred to, is still under debate for some in the medical communit.  Some doctors question whether it exists, while others acknowledge that this is a medical disorder triggered by exposures to chemicals in the environment. This often begins with a short-term, severe chemical exposure, such as a chemical spill, including household cleaners, or a longer-term low level  exposure, such as a poorly ventilated office, vapors or skin exposure from your weekly used home cleaning products, perfumed body care products & perfumesRead the rest of this entry »

Chemicals in lotion and other personal care productsEach day, more and more people are unknowingly exposed to toxic chemicals through their personal care products and household cleaning products. In our homes we find ourselves applying these products which contain toxic ingredients to our skin, the largest organ in our bodies. And we are breathing the scent and fumes from household cleaning products, further exposing our bodies to toxic ingredients that affect our health in very negative ways.

Some people have become so sick from their beauty products that they have been diagnosed with MCS, Multiple Chemical Sensitivity.

The only way we can limit our exposure to such toxins in the home is by having a bit of information at hand which will facilitate us in the choices we make daily.

Just because it’s on a store shelf, doesn’t mean it is safe

It will most probably disturb you greatly to know that:

  • Fifty four percent of the personal care products violate safety recommendations.
  • Nearly 70% of all products reviewed were found to have products tainted with impurities that may be linked to cancer and other health problems.

We all want our homes and workplaces to smell good.  We subconsciously let scents directly affect our mood.  Typically, this is a good thing, except when we are inhaling toxic cancer causing chemicals disguised as innocent air fresheners.  Many health hazards were discussed in part 2 of this series.  If you have not yet read it, I encourage you to do so before reading about the safe, organic, non toxic choices below. Read part 2 here , read part 1 here

When I became involved with Young Living Essential Oils, I was ecstatic to learn about all of the safe non toxic, chemical free air freshener choices that were now available to me!

Today, much has been theorized regarding the effects of diffusing essential oils, which can be considered similar to the aromatic smoke used by Hippocrates. It has been hypothesized that when essential oils are diffused, they can increase atmospheric oxygen by releasing oxygenating molecules into the air. Not only can essential oils increase oxygen in the atmosphere, they also increase the body’s ability to transport oxygen into the cells. The lipid-soluble structure of essential oils allows them to easily penetrate the cell membranes of the nose and enter into the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, the oils can help transport oxygen and nutrients into the cells. Young Livings Feelings collection was designed to lift negative impressions and allow openness to new beginnings.  Everyone has experienced lasting adverse impressions that scar our inner self, prohibiting self growth and accomplishment.  “Negative experiences and ideas are recorded in our brains and locked into our memories throughout our lives.  These memories range from mild to extreme and have a profound effect on our health and happiness.  In order to become who we are intended to be, we must erase these negatives and reprogram our thoughts to make positive ideas our reality.” D. Joy™ (#3372) is a luxuriously exotic blend with uplifting overtones that creates magnetic energy and brings joy to the heart. When worn as cologne or perfume, Joy exudes an alluring and irresistible fragrance that inspires romance and togetherness. When diffused, it can be refreshing and uplifting.

Sensation™ (#3420) is a wonderfully fragrant, powerfully romantic blend that is extremely uplifting and refreshing. It was formulated to enhance the enjoyment of special moments.

Dragon Time™ (#3327) is a blend of calming and soothing essential oils, including clary sage, which contains natural phytoestrogens – the perfect choice for women’s emotions during special times and needs. Its balancing properties make it a perfect choice for supporting normal, healthy emotions during the female monthly cycle. Dragon Time is recommended for young and mature women.

Abundance™ (#3300) is created to enhance the frequency of the harmonic magnetic energy field that surrounds us. This higher frequency creates what is called “the law of attraction,” which refers to the things we attract to ourselves. Abundance opens us to a wealth of possibilities.

Gentle Baby™ (#3345) is a soft, fragrant combination of essential oils designed specifically for mothers and babies. It helps calm emotions during pregnancy and is useful for quieting troubled little ones. It is also soothing to tender skin. Sandalwood (Santalum album) (#3634) has a rich, sweet, warm, and woody aroma that is sensual and romantic. Used traditionally as incense in religious ceremonies and for meditation, it is uplifting and relaxing. It is valued in skin care for its moisturizing and normalizing properties.

Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) (#3608), sometimes called “the scent of the sixties,” has a musky, earthy, exotic aroma. In Eastern cultures, it is commonly used around the house to provide general support for health and to help release negative emotions. It is very beneficial for the skin, helping to reduce a wrinkled or chapped appearance. Patchouli is a general tonic that supports the digestive system and soothes occasional queasiness.

Magnify Your Purpose™ (#3377) is a specially crafted blend of essential oils that stimulates creativity, desire, focus, and motivation. It helps foster a positive attitude, encouraging you to rise above adversity, seize the initiative, overcome procrastination and self-pity, and magnify your life’s purpose.

Harmony™ (#3351) is an exquisite blend that promotes physical and emotional well-being by bringing harmonic balance to the energy centers of the body. How to use essential oils and get successful results begins with knowing how to use your oils properly, particularly when they are therapeutic-grade essential oils. This is a brief overview of the three basic ways essential oils can be used. You will discover that simply using high quality essential oils for aromatherapy purposes is terrific and that Essential oils for everyday useit is only just the beginning!

1) Aromatherapy

  1. Direct Inhalation: Directly inhale the oil from the bottle.
  2. Diffusing: Use one of Young Living’s essential oil diffuser to disperse oil in a micro-fine vapor into the air, more.
  3. Humidifier: Fill a humidifier with water then place a tissue or cloth, sprinkled with a few drops of oil, in front of the escaping vapor.
  4. Steam: Place a few drops of oil in hot water, cover your head and the container with a towel, and breathe deeply and slowly.
  5. Bath: In a small dish, add 2-4 drops of essential oil to 1 cup Epsom Salt or Sea Salt, pour under running bath water, soak for 20 minutes.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

‘It’s not unusual to be loved by anyone?” Why these words popped into my thoughts when I began this article, I don’t know, but love is one way one can have anxiety and Tom Jones’ song, “It’s Not Unusual” does reflect in it’s lyrics how love can cause anxiety.

Better to not have anxiety, but most likely in our lives and any love situation, anxiety does come about.  Be it from, jealousy, dishonesty, health issues, financial, children, or family circumstances.

I believe in their healing qualities and I am in awe when I experience and see amazing results, from one being relieved of sleep loss, relief from hot flashes, depression, stress and anxiety, aches and pain, healing of burns and wounds, allergies and head ache relief and even elimination of medications. And all because of the use of what our Creator has provided us with from the beginning of time, plant life which processes life sustaining qualities in the essential oils they have been blessed with. Use caution with essential oils if you have a serious medical conditionPerfume making is an art. Some may have a natural talent for combining different plant scents, while others may need to work at it a bit. Probably the most important thing is to have a nice assortment of Young Living Essential Oils on hand and a desire to learn this age old art. The benefit of using superior quality essential oils in your perfume mixtures is that they are far more than mere scents, there’s therapy in that aroma!

I’ve tried to keep this simple fr a number of reasons, firstly; it’s about having fun, and secondly; it’s about expressing your creativity through making something that is healing to the mind and spirit. A gift for yourself or someone you love. Rather than get bogged down on technique, I want to give you a foundation from which you can blossom and grow.

Things you will need to get started blending scents:

  • An assortment of Young Living Essential Oils (see below) Buy YL Oils Here.
  • Perfume Bottles
  • One small glass jar with lid filled with plain coffee beans (not ground, not flavored!)
  • Notebook and pen

Some choices of essential oils for your ‘notes’

It is not necessary to have every oil on this list, though if you do have these and more you will be able to create many more and different perfumes. Thus, this list is only a sampling to get you thinking in the right direction. Pick and choose how ever many as your heart, head and budget can afford. At the very least, you would want one or two essential oil(s) from each note category.
