Aria and TheraPro essential oil diffusersDuring the winter months there is usually a higher amount of air pollution and bacteria in the air than at other times of the year due to an increase in the closed doors and windows and the fact that cold air keeps air pollution closer to the ground. This increased pollution can lead to respiratory issues for some. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of pure therapeutic-grade essential oils, along with the negative ions and oxygenating molecules which are released when essential oils are diffused all help to reduce bacteria, odors in the air. Therapeutic-grade essential oils never mask odors, they purify the air of odors and bacteria causing germs. When higher quality essential oils are diffused the results go beyond basic aromatherapy!

Pure Therapeutic-grade Essential Oils Recommended for Indoor Air Purification

  • Single Essential Oils: cypress, eucalyptus, fir, grapefruit, lavender, lemon, and rosemary.
  • Essential Oil Blends: Thieves, R.C., Purification, and Citrus Fresh.

Diffusers and Diffusing

The Aria Ultrasonic Diffuser (above left) (#4524) emits a fine mist of essential oils that stays suspended in the air. It is a perfect natural alternative to synthetic air fresheners. By breaking up a mixture of water and essential oil into millions of micro-particles, the Aria disperses an aromatic mist into the air, activating the beneficial constituents found in Young Living Therapeutic Grade essential oils.

The TheraPro Premium Diffuser (above right) (#4495)  is designed to disperse essential oils in a micro-fine vapor (without containing water) so the essential oil stays suspended for several hours. The TheraPro Premium Diffuser disperses the oils without heating them (heat destroys the therapeutic compounds), so the essential oils retain their therapeutic benefits.

Experiencing the physical and psychological benefits of aromatherapy diffusing in your home is amazing and you may wish that you had started doing this much sooner.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Outside of Lavender, therapeutic-grade Lemon essential oil is perhaps one of the most versatile and useful oils to have around the home. Lemon oil can be used for everything from aromatherapy to flavoring water, to making your own uplifting bath salts to cleaning produce. Lemon oil has been widely used in skin care to cleanse skin and reduce wrinkles. It promotes clarity of thought and purpose, as well as health, healing, physical energy, and purification. Its fragrance is invigorating, enhancing, and warming. Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rind.Lemon Essential Oil

Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of lemon essential oil – use it sparingly when flavoring beverages or foods. In his book, “The Practice of Aromatherapy”, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.

University researchers in Japan found that diffusing certain aromas in an office environment dramatically improved mental accuracy and concentration. Diffused Lemon oil resulted in 54 percent fewer errors! Diffuse for 10 minutes every hour. When aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50 percent.

A 1995 Mie University study found that citrus fragrances boosted immunity, induced relaxation, and reduced depression.

Medical Properties of Lemon Essential Oil: Antitumoral, antiseptic, improves microcirculation, and immune stimulant (increases white blood cells), improves memory, relaxation. Rich in limonene, which has been extensively studied for its ability to combat tumor growth in over 50 clinical studies.

34 Amazing Ways To Use Lemon Essential Oil

  1. To clean non-carpeted floors, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Then add 5 – 10 drops of lemon, pine, or spruce essential oil. If the floor is especially dirty, add several drops of dish washing soap. This will clean even the dirtiest floor.
  2. To make a carpet freshener, add 16 – 20 drops of essential oils to 1 cup of baking soda or borax powder. Mix ingredients together well and place in a covered container overnight so that the essential oil can be absorbed. Sprinkle over carpet then vacuum the powder up.
  3. You may also put 3-7 drops of Lemon essential oil on a cotton ball and place it into a vacuum bag – doing this scents the air while vacuuming. If your vacuum collects the dirt into water, simply add a few drops into the water reservoir before vacuuming. This refreshes both the carpet and acts as an air freshener.
  4. Some essential oils can act as gentle stimulants to the limbic system of the brain by their scent, increasing alertness and concentration enhancing the capacity for learning, improving memory, and assisting many other cognitive functions. A wide range of essential oils offer these benefits, such as: Lemon, Peppermint, Rosemary and Melissa. To help increase these functions simply inhale the chosen essential oil directly from the bottle or put a drop on a tissue and keep in your pocket for use throughout the day.
  5. Use 1–2 drops to remove gum, oil, grease, grease spots, glue and adhesives, and crayon from most surfaces. Tip: try a test area before to make sure you won’t ruin any finishes.
  6. Substitute lemon oil for lemon juice or lemon seasonings to flavor seafood, vegetables, beverages, and desserts. To use Lemon oil in place of the zest of “one” lemon – use 8 to 14 drops of Young Living Lemon essential oil. More on Cooking with Essential Oils.
  7. Combine 2–3 drops with water in a 4oz. spray bottle filled with water to help cleanse and sanitize kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
  8. Soothe or prevent corns, callous, or bunions by rubbing 1-2 drops of Lemon oil on the affected area, morning and evening.*
  9. Fill a bowl with cold water, add 2–3 drops of Lemon oil, and drench fruit and vegetables in the lemon water to extend the shelf life of fresh produce.
  10. Add a drop to your dishwasher before the wash cycle for spot-free dishes.
  11. Lemon has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. According Jean Valnet, M.D., the vaporized [diffused] essence of lemon can kill meningococcus bacteria in 15 minutes, typhoid bacilli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus in two hours, and Pneumococcus bacteria within three hours. Even a 0.2% solution of Lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria. More on diffusers and diffusing.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

From perfumes and aromatherapy to cooking and medicinal purposes, essential oils have been a vital part of everyday life, dating back to 4500 BC. After personally experiencing the many benefits of essential oils, D. Gary Young, Founder and President of Young Living Essential Oils, began a personal campaign to promote the ancient healing art of essential oil therapy. The result? An abundant line of pure, therapeutic- grade essential oils, including over 140 single essential oils and unique essential oil blends, and the world’s largest community dedicated to achieving wellness via nature’s purest, most potent gift.

Essential Oils: Pure, Potent Plant Remedies

Uplifting, protective, calming, and regenerating, essential oils are a unique gift from the natural world. Often referred to as “nature’s living energy” or the very essence of a plant, essential oils are aromatic liquids derived from shrubs, flowers, trees, roots, bushes, and seeds. They not only determine the plant’s aroma, but are vital for plants to grow, live, evolve, and adapt. Essential oils also help defend plants from insects, environmental conditions, and disease. Today, research shows that when used aromatically, applied topically, or taken internally, essential oils can calm, energize, balance, purify, and rejuvenate the mind and body.

It is important to have Young Living’s therapeutic-grade essential oils on hand for your home and family. To help you get started, Young Living has a collection of nine of the most popular essential oils and essential oil blends for a wide range of uses and benefits. Try them in the following favorite everyday applications.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

While going about your daily household tasks you’ve probably stopped to consider the effects of artificial flavoring in foods or the synthetic compounds in your household cleaner. More than likely you’ve wondered if these mystery ingredients are even safe to use in your home.

Therapeutic-grade essential oils can eliminate these concerns when you incorporate them into your daily household routine. Replacing man-made synthetics with natural, plant-based essential oils removes questionable ingredients from your home and adds countless benefits.

It may not be possible or cost effective to avoid all of these chemicals in your cleaning and personal care products, but there are plenty of ways to reduce your family’s exposure to them. Using therapeutic-grade essential oils, to make your own aromatherapy bed linen spray, is a safe, effective alternative to many store-bought scented products.

Some of the best and most popular essential oils for scenting linens:

  • Thieves (essential oil #3423, or Thieves Spray #3266) – spicy clean scent, antibacterial
  • Citrus Fresh (#3318) – fresh citrus scent, antiseptic
  • Peace & Calming (#3393) – soothing and relaxing to emotions
  • Purification (#3399) – clean scent, disinfecting
  • Lavender (#3575) – relaxing floral scent, antiseptic
  • Sensation (#3420) – relaxing and romantic scent
  • Eucalyptus polybractea (#3537) – fresh sharp scent, supports respiratory system
  • Spruce (#3641) – a fresh pine scent, helpful to respiratory system, antiseptic
  • Lemon (#3578) – fresh uplifting scent, antibacterial
  • Lemongrass (#35810 – slight citrus, very clean scent, antibacterial
  • Grapefruit (#3560) – fresh, sweet, zesty, uplifting scent

“Every time I change the linens on my bed, I spray Thieves® Spray generously and evenly on the mattress and the pillows. I feel that this leaves the bedding fresh smelling and free of those tiny things we can’t see. Sometimes I will also give the sheets and pillows a quick spray when making the bed. This keeps my sleeping area fresh between changing. I just love the smell of Thieves Spray!” ~ Pam J.

How to Make Your Own Bed Linen Spray

  • 4oz. spray bottle
  • 10-15 drops of your chosen Young Living essential oil (see good ideas above)
  • Water

Fill spray bottle 7/8 full with water, add essential oil, shake, lightly spray bed linens when making the bed.

I enjoy spritzing my bed linens every morning when making the bed. Climbing into bed at night smells so nice and fresh!
