"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

I think it’s fair to say almost every single one of us has been told over the course of their lifetime, that something that ailed them was “inflammation:.  But has anyone ever explained the process of inflammation?  Most likely the answer is no.

They are many medications on the market, like Celebrex, naprosyn, and ones like Vioxx which have been pulled from the market due to sudden cardiac death and strokes.  I personally took Celebrex and Vioxx in the past.  ALL prescriptions on the market for inflammation come with these same side effects, even if you don’t hear about it often anymore.  ALL OF THEM.

Young Living Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils DO NOT come with any of those side effects, and used properly, there is no risk of stroke or heart attack.

I suffer (suffered) from pain on a constant, chronic daily basis.  I have 2 types of arthritis, systemic Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and many, many other illnesses, as well as a fused cervical spine and titanium shoulder.  Taking 8 Vicodin a day did not do much to alleviate the pain.  Many days I was in tears because I couldn’t get away from the pain.  Then, there was the “acute” pain surprises on top of the chronic pain.  One second my knee would be fine, the next second it would feel like someone was stabbing me in the knee.  Some days, if it happened while I was driving the car, I would literally need to pull over because I was incapable of driving.  After years of taking these anti inflammatory medications, which, by the way, did work to a minimal extent, I was introduced to Young Living Essential Oils, my savior!

I turned to my Young Living essential oils.  I researched and experimented, and finally came up with a topically applied synergistic blend of 26 Young Living Essential Oils that I’m calling “Happy Cells”.  (see why below).  When it is applied, by the drop, to an acute or chronic area of pain, the pain is literally gone in less then 5 minutes at the most, more often within the minute. There are times the pain is gone within seconds.

I have tested this blend on neuropathy pain, acute injury pain, chronic old injury pain, arthritic pain, pulled and strained muscles and joints, diabetic neuropathy, and Fibromyalgia pain.  It has worked immediately and completely on every single one.  The only time it did not relieve the pain 100% was on my broken collarbone.  To be honest, it relieved the pain by about 65%, however, I was continuing to use my arm and shoulder, it was NOT in a sling and swath, as I was concerned about getting a frozen shoulder again.  So, in reality, if I had babied my arm and put it in a sling, I suspect my pain would’ve been completely relieved.

Although this blend may seem expensive, it is used by the drop, not by the ounce.  I use 1-2 drops per area of pain, that’s it.  So, in reality, the bottle will last a long time, it’s organic, chemical free, and, most importantly, IT WORKS!  In reality you would be spending much more on the chemical laden products currently on the market that, on a good day, might relieve your pain by 50% at best for a very short period of time. Additionally, it has NO EXPIRATION DATE!  It will be as potent 5 years from now as it is today.  Also, you can not overdose on my topically applied product, as you can with some others.  Documented deaths have been occurring since 2007 from BenGay http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/06/15/AR2007061500676.html,  and other over the counter topical pain relievers:  Please feel free to do your own research on deaths and Ben Gay, deaths and sports creams, etc.

Their Poisonous Ingredient

  • Menthol
  • Methyl salicylate

See also: Methyl salicylate overdose

Where Found

Methyl salicylates and menthol are found in many over-the-counter pain-relieving creams.

Symptoms

    • Shallow breathing

    • Hyperactivity
  • Skin
    • Rash (usually an allergic reaction)
    • Mild burn (in extremely high doses)
  • Stomach and intestines
    • Nausea
    • Vomiting, possibly with blood

You will NOT experience ANY of these symptoms or problems with my product.  It is 100% pure, organic unadulterated Therapeutic Grade Essential oils, for topical application only.  If you have sensitive skin, I would then suggest trying 1 drop to see if your skin will react, and if it does, cut it with V6 or Olive Oil.

My formula should relieve pain 100% of the time on ALL types of pain. It works for a minimum of 4 hours, possibly all day, depending on the reason for the pain and if you’re still actively using that area (like me and my collarbone).

My blend was created after countless hours of research and trial and error, looking for oils that “potentiate” (boost) each other, so that the whole is more then its parts.

It’s applied topically, is safe for use on children and pets.  I used it on my dog’s dislocated hip, my daughter’s multiple fractures, a friend’s diabetic peripheral neuropathy in his feet, my mom’s acute and chronic knee, a friend’s cancer bone pain, and ALL of my multiple acute and chronic injuries and illness pain.

I use a blend of 26 Young Living Organic Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils, that’s it.  No chemicals, no baby oil, no “gel”, no petroleum jelly, no other cancer causing toxic ingredients like other topical pain products on the market.  There are NO filler products at all.  You are getting 100% pure organic essential oils, and nothing else.  You can, if you choose, dilute this with a few drops of a carrier oil to extend your product, or you can ask me to do it for you.  However, please remember that pure essential oils have NO expiration date, and anything you use to fill the product will have an expiration date.

I look forward to assisting you in becoming pain free, and living your life to the fullest in an organic natural toxic chemical free essential oil way!

Understanding Inflammation:  Inflammation is an immune cellular defense process of what happens to any part of your body that is either acutely injured (a fall), or chronic (tennis elbow, carpel tunnel), or from an autoimmune disease (System Lupus, MS, etc.), or infection.

Inflammation is characterized by any number of symptoms, including:

  • Redness
  • Swollen joint that is warm to touch (not always warm)
  • Joint pain
  • Joint stiffness
  • Loss of joint function
  • Area of swelling along the bone or muscle
  • Pain is not always present

Inflammation MAY also be associated with general “flu-like” symptoms including:

  • Fever
  • Chills
  • Fatigue/loss of energy
  • Headaches
  • Loss of appetite
  • Muscle stiffness

These flu like symptoms are most often seen when there is an underlying chronic inflammatory process due to an auto-immune disease, not from an acute injury.

What causes the symptoms of inflammation?

When an injury to the body occurs for any reason, inflammation occurs. Chemicals from the body’s white blood cells are released into the blood or affected tissues in an attempt to rid the body of foreign substances created by the injury, and to  repair tissue trauma.  This release of chemicals increases the blood flow to the area and may result in redness and warmth.  A chemical cascade effect takes place, with the immune system being “activated”, which calls white blood cells to the site to eat up the injured dead cells from the injury, while at the same time increasing blood flow to the injured site. Some of the chemicals cause leakage of fluid into the tissues, resulting in swelling. The cells move out of the vein and into the injured tissue, where they normally are not. The inflammatory process will likely stimulate nerves and cause pain, as will the swelling.  Additionally, depending on the injury itself, the nerve may have been directly injured, which will cause pain.  Once the white blood cells “eat” the injured and dead cells, they themselves start to release toxic enzymes into the tissue, which is a chemical signal for yet MORE cells to be called to the site.  This response by the body will continue until the injury is repaired.

Pain is caused when ever a nerve is injured or inflammed by any disease process, or there is tissue damage.   Nerves can be injured by being “pinched” between things, like a bone and disc, or “pinched: due to pressure from a swollen inflammed area.  Pain can arise in any organ or system  Because pain is subjective and intensly personal, sympathetic care and support is a very important part of pain relief.  In addition to analgesic pain relievers, doctors SHOULD use a wide variety of tools and techniques to help alleviate the pain and find and treat the root cause of the pain.  All too often we get a script for a pain killer without getting to the root cause of the problem, so we are only masking the pain, and not fixing the problem.

Young Living Essential Oils treat not only the pain, but decrease the inflammation from the site, helping you not only feel better quicker, but to get better quicker.

Please look for my anti-inflammatory pain blend in my store, http://headandhoof.com/.

I hope this blend will help you through your weekly aches and pains as much as it has helped me and my friends, because, let’s be honest, when you’re in pain it effects every part of you, including your mood and attitude, so, turn your frown upside down and buy some Happy Cell today.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Life 5 dietary supplementAn article in the New York Times states that, “Colic is one of the most prevalent conditions of infancy: about 20 percent of all babies suffer the inconsolable bouts of crying that characterize it. Yet no one really understands what makes a baby colicky. Scientists have investigated a number of causes — allergies, hormones in milk, even stress in the womb. But some now think it may stem from inflammation in the gut, perhaps a result of too many harmful bacteria and not enough beneficial ones.”

Citing a 2009 study where the objective was to explore whether gut inflammation, colonic fermentation, and/or an altered colonic flora could provide a pathophysiological mechanism for colic. Scientists found that

during 24 hours, infants with colic (n = 19) cried and fussed for a mean of 314 +/- 36 (SEM) minutes, compared with control infants (n = 17, 103 +/- 17 minutes). Fecal calprotectin levels were 2-fold higher in infants with colic than in control infants (413 +/- 71 vs 197 +/- 46 microg/g, P = .042). Stools of infants with colic had fewer identifiable bands on denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis. Klebsiella species were detected in more colic patients than in control patients (8 vs 1, P = .02), whereas Enterobacter/Pantoea species were detected only in the control patients. These differences could not be attributed to differences in formula versus breast milk feeding, consumption of elemental formula, or exposure to antibiotics.

Their Conclusion: Infants with colic, a condition previously believed to be nonorganic in nature, have evidence of intestinal neutrophilic infiltration and a less diverse fecal microflora.

In two other studies, 2007 and 2010, they also found that babies who had probiotics in their guts

had no inflammation and a greater diversity of beneficial bacteria.

“Gut microbiota changes induced by the probiotic could be involved in the observed clinical improvement,” the researchers wrote. Still, experts say they would like to see more studies.

The Bottom Line

There is evidence that probiotics may help relieve colic.

Young Living’s Life 5™ dietary supplement contains five probiotic strains, including two super strains. Life 5 is by far the best probiotic I have ever taken, I highly recommend it over any other brand!

Life 5™ is a high-potency probiotic representing the culmination of years of extensive research. Life 5 builds and restores core intestinal health by providing five clinically proven probiotic strains including two advanced super strains to enhance intestinal health, sustain energy and improve immunity. Life 5 contains 8 billion active cultures and improves colonization up to 10 times.

Even if you don’t have kids or colicky babies Life 5 is an excellent choice for overall wellness for adults.

Lavender Essential OilResearchers in Iran have concluded a series of clinical trials to evaluate the effectiveness of lavender essential oil when used in certain childbirth applications. The results were very promising and support Young Living’s long-held view on the healing power of this incredible essential oil.

Study excerpt:

Lavender Essential Oil and Povidone-iodine Are Similarly Effective Treatments for Episiotomy Wound Healing

Vakilian K, Atarha M, Bekhradi R, Chaman R. Healing advantages of lavender essential oil during episiotomy recovery: a clinical trial. Complement Ther Clin Pract. Feb 2011;17(1):50-53. doi:10.1016/j.ctcp.2010.05.006.

“Episiotomy is a perineal incision that is performed to prevent vaginal lacerations during childbirth. Antiseptic sitz baths are routinely used in postpartum episiotomy wound care, and povidone-iodine topical antiseptics are used in particular in Iran. Spanish lavender (Lavandula stoechas) has a long history of traditional medicinal use. Constituents of lavender (Lavandula spp.) essential oil have anti-inflammatory, antifungal, and antibacterial effects, including activity against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, as well as pathogenic fungi. Two clinical trials have found that lavender oil added to bathwater reduces postpartum perineal discomfort.1,2 The purpose of this randomized, controlled clinical trial was to examine the effect of lavender (species not stated) essential oil baths compared to povidone-iodine treatment on episiotomy wound healing.

The study was conducted by researchers at Barij Essence Pharmaceutical Co. (Delijan, Iran), Arak University of Medical Sciences (Tehran, Iran), and Shahrood University of Medical Sciences (Shahrood, Iran). Lavender essential oil was extracted from fresh flowers and inflorescences collected immediately before blooming and diluted with olive oil to produce a 1.5% lavender essential oil product. The researchers enrolled 120 subjects, including primiparous women with singleton pregnancies who had received mediolateral episiotomies during spontaneous vaginal deliveries.

Redness was significantly reduced in the lavender oil group compared to the control group. After 10 days, 13 control group subjects and 31 lavender oil group subjects had no redness (P=0.001), and 28 subjects in the control group and 8 subjects in the lavender oil group showed redness greater than 7 mm (the greatest level measured). The researchers report no complications, with the exception of “a little irritation” in 2 subjects (treatment group not stated). There were 5 subjects with mild infections treated by antibiotics (control: n=2, lavender oil: n=3).

The authors conclude that lavender essential oil is “a suitable therapy for postpartum episiotomy wound care.” The results show that subjects using lavender oil sitz baths had a similar experience to those using povidone-iodine antiseptics in treating postpartum episiotomy pain and edema and preventing infection, though lavender oil was more effective in treating redness. The authors suggest future clinical trials with larger subject samples and careful follow-up to confirm these results.”

Hand washing not only can prevent colds and flu but can also help prevent the spreading of these germs. Most products on the market either contain toxic and unwanted chemicals or they are very harsh on the skin. Check out and try Thieves hand products if you want to experience nice results, these are two products I always have on hand. I even keep a stash of them in my Natural First Aid Kit.

Thieves® Foaming Hand Soap is balanced mix of natural ingredients that reduces the disruption of the skin’s natural moisture complex and leaves important lipids in place to maintain a proper moisture balance in the skin.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Outside of Lavender, therapeutic-grade Lemon essential oil is perhaps one of the most versatile and useful oils to have around the home. Lemon oil can be used for everything from aromatherapy to flavoring water, to making your own uplifting bath salts to cleaning produce. Lemon oil has been widely used in skin care to cleanse skin and reduce wrinkles. It promotes clarity of thought and purpose, as well as health, healing, physical energy, and purification. Its fragrance is invigorating, enhancing, and warming. Lemon (Citrus limon) essential oil has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. Lemon essential oil is cold-pressed from the rind.Lemon Essential Oil

Jean Valnet MD estimated that it takes 3,000 lemons to produce one kilo of lemon essential oil – use it sparingly when flavoring beverages or foods. In his book, “The Practice of Aromatherapy”, Valnet wrote that lemon is a tonic for supporting the nervous and sympathetic nervous system.

University researchers in Japan found that diffusing certain aromas in an office environment dramatically improved mental accuracy and concentration. Diffused Lemon oil resulted in 54 percent fewer errors! Diffuse for 10 minutes every hour. When aromas were diffused during test taking, scores increased by as much as 50 percent.

A 1995 Mie University study found that citrus fragrances boosted immunity, induced relaxation, and reduced depression.

Medical Properties of Lemon Essential Oil: Antitumoral, antiseptic, improves microcirculation, and immune stimulant (increases white blood cells), improves memory, relaxation. Rich in limonene, which has been extensively studied for its ability to combat tumor growth in over 50 clinical studies.

34 Amazing Ways To Use Lemon Essential Oil

  1. To clean non-carpeted floors, add 1/4 cup of white vinegar to a bucket of water. Then add 5 – 10 drops of lemon, pine, or spruce essential oil. If the floor is especially dirty, add several drops of dish washing soap. This will clean even the dirtiest floor.
  2. To make a carpet freshener, add 16 – 20 drops of essential oils to 1 cup of baking soda or borax powder. Mix ingredients together well and place in a covered container overnight so that the essential oil can be absorbed. Sprinkle over carpet then vacuum the powder up.
  3. You may also put 3-7 drops of Lemon essential oil on a cotton ball and place it into a vacuum bag – doing this scents the air while vacuuming. If your vacuum collects the dirt into water, simply add a few drops into the water reservoir before vacuuming. This refreshes both the carpet and acts as an air freshener.
  4. Some essential oils can act as gentle stimulants to the limbic system of the brain by their scent, increasing alertness and concentration enhancing the capacity for learning, improving memory, and assisting many other cognitive functions. A wide range of essential oils offer these benefits, such as: Lemon, Peppermint, Rosemary and Melissa. To help increase these functions simply inhale the chosen essential oil directly from the bottle or put a drop on a tissue and keep in your pocket for use throughout the day.
  5. Use 1–2 drops to remove gum, oil, grease, grease spots, glue and adhesives, and crayon from most surfaces. Tip: try a test area before to make sure you won’t ruin any finishes.
  6. Substitute lemon oil for lemon juice or lemon seasonings to flavor seafood, vegetables, beverages, and desserts. To use Lemon oil in place of the zest of “one” lemon – use 8 to 14 drops of Young Living Lemon essential oil. More on Cooking with Essential Oils.
  7. Combine 2–3 drops with water in a 4oz. spray bottle filled with water to help cleanse and sanitize kitchen and bathroom surfaces.
  8. Soothe or prevent corns, callous, or bunions by rubbing 1-2 drops of Lemon oil on the affected area, morning and evening.*
  9. Fill a bowl with cold water, add 2–3 drops of Lemon oil, and drench fruit and vegetables in the lemon water to extend the shelf life of fresh produce.
  10. Add a drop to your dishwasher before the wash cycle for spot-free dishes.
  11. Lemon has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. According Jean Valnet, M.D., the vaporized [diffused] essence of lemon can kill meningococcus bacteria in 15 minutes, typhoid bacilli in one hour, Staphylococcus aureus in two hours, and Pneumococcus bacteria within three hours. Even a 0.2% solution of Lemon oil can kill diphtheria bacteria in 20 minutes and inactivate tuberculosis bacteria. More on diffusers and diffusing.
  12. Lemon has been shown to have antidepressant effects in research done by Komori, et al.,1995. Diffuse or inhale Lemon oil to receive the benefits of aromatherapy.
  13. Lemon oil may help brighten a pale, dull complexion by removing the dead skin cells. Simply mix a drop with your cleanser to help promote healthier skin tone.
  14. Lemon oil can serve as an effective insect repellent. See recipe for making your own beeswax mosquito candle.
  15. Rub a drop of Lemon oil on a wart morning and night, may help it to disappear.*
  16. Rub 1-3 drops of Lemon oil to clean a butcher’s block or other cutting surfaces to disinfect those surfaces.
  17. Add one teaspoon of lemon essential oil to one-cup mineral oil for an effective furniture polish.
  18. Homemade lemonade, in a blender mix 2 drops of Lemon oil, 2 tablespoons of honey and two cups of pure water. Adjust the amount of each ingredient to suit your own taste.**

  31. Heartburn is a burning pain felt behind the breastbone. It is most often the result of acid reflux, that is, when stomach acid rises up the esophagus where it irritates the lining.
