I'm looking forward to helping you get "on with living" in a happy, healthy, chemical and pain-free way as I, my family and our pets have.
The benefits of diffusing Young Living therapeutic essential oils are many and varied. One thing for certain, it’s a win-win!
Essential oils kill pathogenic micro-organisms of all kinds.
World renowned medical researcher, Dr. Jean Valnet M.D., states that essential oils provide remarkable protection against viral infections ranging from shingles to influenza.
Private research, funded by Young Living Essential Oils. Inc. at Weber State University, successfully demonstrated specific essential oils diffused in a closed chamber killed every virus tested within minutes. Of 74 Young Living single essential oils tested, lemongrass, Roman chamomile, cinnamon, rose, valerian and yarrow scored the highest kill rates.
Specific Young Living blends of essential oils, like the Thieves blend demonstrated a 99.6% kill rate against airborne bacteria and scored high for its antiviral qualities and anti-fungal qualities.
Diffusing essential oils in the home or work place is one of the best ways to purify our environment. The anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and antiseptic properties of the oils, along with the negative ions and oxygenating molecules that are released when essential oils are diffused.
Cinnamon bark oil, oregano oil, and Thieves oil were all tested by Weber State University, and were shown to kill 100% of the airborne bacteria present when diffused into the atmosphere. (KID-Radio with Lance Richardson and Dr. Gary Young, ND, March 5, 1996).
By diffusing essential oils, or applying them topically to targeted areas of the body, therapeutic constituents reestablish balance where stress or mental discomfort has disrupted healthy emotional function.
See the diffusers Young Living has available here.
When you’re just starting out with essential oils it can be overwhelming. There are over one hundred essential oils which probably leaves you with over a hundred questions. Which ones do I get? How do I use them? Are they safe to put directly on my skin?
I recommend everyone should start off with lavender. It’s a great oil that can be used for so many different things. Lavender was first discovered when a French scientist burnt his arm in a laboratory accident and used lavender to promote tissue regeneration and to speed wound healing. This oil has a calming and relaxing fragrance both physically and emotionally. Keeping lavender in the home will give you many options on how to use it:
Rub a couple drops of lavender on your feet, shoulders, and pillow to help you get a good night’s sleep
Put a drop of lavender on a cut or burn to help with pain, stop bleeding and promote quick healing
Diffuse lavender throughout the day to reduce stress
Put 5 drops of lavender on a damp wash cloth and place in the dryer for a homemade dryer sheet
Rub a drop of lavender on scars daily to help minimize scar tissue
Mix 2-3 drops of lavender in with a handful of Epsom salt and place in a warm bath to help with menstrual cramps
Put a drop of lavender on a insect sting or bite to reduce pain or itching
Place a drop of lavender behind your ears to ease motion sickness
Put a few drops of lavender in a container of distilled water and spray on a sunburn to ease pain
These are just a few of the many uses of lavender. Lavender is a great addition to any first aid kit especially if you’ve got children. Kids are always falling down and skinning knees. Lavender stops the tears and helps calm a worried mind.
So if you’re just starting out with essential oils and don’t really know where to begin I recommend lavender. It’s worth every penny. Lavender is also found in many Young Living essential oil blends and other products such as: Awaken, Dragon Time massage oil, KidScents Tender Tush, Lavender Volume Shampoo, and many others.
As with anything, it is a lot cheaper and easier to prevent toxic mold than it is to do mold remediation and costly home repairs. Being proactive against toxic mold = a lot more money in your bank account!
3 Tips and What I do to ‘Prevent’ Toxic Mold n My House
1. If the roof, door or window begins to leak – repair it as soon as possible!
It is cheaper to repair a small problem than it is to repair a large one. Perform regular home maintenance and repair things before thy become expensive repairs.
I am always amazed by how many homes I drive past that are in disrepair. This is a toxic mold problem just waiting to happen!
Additional Tip: A house also happens to be our greatest asset in terms of our net worth… don’t let the most valuable thing you own waste away, this ‘your’ money!
2. Diffuse Thieves or Purification essential oils once a week!
You will need:
A cold-air nebulizer type diffuser (see image) – no other type of diffuser will address the prevention of mold, period.
And a couple bottles of either Thieves or Purification essential oil. Depending upon the size of your house, one bottle should last 1-3 months!
Run your diffuser for 15-30 minutes a day – or – for 6 hours a week.
You will also find: that your house smells better and that you and your family members will have fewer colds and flu = fewer missed days of work and school = more money in your bank account. Read the rest of this entry »
Different essential oils have different viscosity, or thickness, and therefore diffuse at different speeds. A good reason for diffusing therapeutic-grade essential oils is that research indicates when superior quality essential oils are diffused they can increase atmospheric oxygen and provide negative ions, which inhibits bacterial growth in the air. This suggests that essential oils could play a very important role in air purification and neutralizing odors (not masking odors). Because of their ionizing action, essential oils have the ability to break down some potentially harmful chemicals and render them nontoxic. For instance, Lemon essential oil is terrific at breaking down products that are derived from petro-chemicals; simply putting several drops on a cotton ball can remove the gummy stuff left behind after you peel off a price tag, or motor grease from hands. Therapeutic-grade Lemon essential oil will also dissolve a Styrofoam cup.
For the purposes of this article, we’ll just stick with the rate at which an essential oil will diffuse in a cold-air nebulizer essential oil diffuser (shown in the image). This type of diffuser is the most versatile, easy to use, lightweight, easy to set up. Because it only uses only air as a means of dispersing the essential oil there is no worry about heat or flame, which can ruin the healthful benefits of your therapeutic essential oil. This type of diffuser puts a micro-fine mist of essential oil into the air where it can come into direct contact with unwanted odors and germs – it’s a terrific way to disinfect the air in the home or office. 2010 Resolutions, Be a Biggest Looser!! I am one of millions that watches the Biggest Looser. This year 2010 I am asking friends, family and anyone reading this article to join my Biggest Looser Team. Biggest Looser will donate money to Feeding America, at the end of June 30, 2010, after our weight loss has been tallied. (If you would rather do this on your own you can join by going to PoundForPound at the Biggest Looser website.)
Feeding America (formerly America’s Second Harvest – The Nation’s Food Bank Network) is the nation’s leading domestic charitable hunger-relief organization. It provides low-income individuals and families with the fuel to survive and even thrive.
Feeding America’s network of more than 200 member food banks supports approximately 63,000 local charitable agencies operating more than 70,000 programs, including food pantries, soup kitchens, emergency shelters, after-school programs, Kids Cafes, BackPack programs and senior centers.
Each year, the Feeding America network provides assistance to more than 25 million low-income people facing hunger in the United States, including more than 9 million children and nearly 3 million seniors. Feeding America will use the funds donated by The Pound For Pound Challenge to deliver groceries to its network of local food banks.
Biggest Looser has this great program and will donate to Feeding America. Here’s how it works:
Pledge to lose weight at PFPChallenge.com between December 8, 2009 – June 30, 2010.
Lose Weight & Feed Your Community. For every pound you pledge, The Pound For Pound Challenge will donate 14¢ to Feeding America® – enough to deliver one pound of groceries to a local food bank. Maximum donation of $800,000.
The Pound For Pound Challenge is open to residents of the United States, its territories, possessions, and military bases.
Must be over 18 years of age to participate.
One pledge permitted per person. If you would like to join my group, please go to my Young Living Circle and Friends Facebook site and join us!! I want to let Biggest Looser know how many pounds we all will be pledging to loose by June 30, 2010, so please join soon. It’s exciting to imagine the amount of weight we will all loose, how great we will feel and the added wonderful bonus in knowing that not only are we helping ourselves but also in helping to fight hunger in our own country, the United States of America!!
I will be sharing my thoughts on a regular basis at the Facebook site and I look forward to getting lots of great ideas and support from others too!!
Many people want to feel better, we may have high cholesterol, diabetes, depression, hormonal imbalance, joint discomfort, breathing problems. Most of these issues may be helped by loosing weight. By loosing excess weight our stress levels will decrease, we will be happier and our emotional imbalances will be in better control. What better gift to our selves and our families. Helping ourselves to have better health will also help our families health to be better, because what we eat, they too will hopefully eat too.
Our weight loss can be accomplished by making smart choices and changes, by exercising and drinking plenty of water. I have learned many different “techniques” for weight loss and one that I have learned fairly recently is that our body truly only recognizes whole foods. What does that mean? What are whole foods? Simply put, whole food is “real” food. Not man made, processed, non fat, sugar free. Try this out for just a week and see if you see a significant weight loss.
Eat protein within 30 minutes after getting up.
Eat something (whole food) every 2 hours, even if it is just a bite of an apple.
Drink water throughout the day, up to 8 – 8 ounce glasses. It is refreshing to add a few drops of Lemon, Grapefruit, Tangerine or many other different essential oils to your water.
Exercise at least 3 times a week.
Only eat whole foods. Real butter, whole milk, whole wheat bread, etc. (Not white flour products, as this is processed.)
In other words, nothing processed, like; “I Can’t Believe It’s Butter” (how true, because its not!!). Our bodies do not recognize non fat. Non fat does not come naturally, sugar free, is only loaded with toxins and chemicals, like aspartame–very BAD nasty chemicals!! All detrimental to us. Our bodies reject them.
When we eat whole food our body accepts this, because it is a naturally recognizable substance and our muscle cells then understand to accept the food that has been broken down and the muscle cells will then help to fight fat cells. When you put unreal food in your body, then the fat cells are just multiplying. So try it for a week and let me know what you find.
Changing our nutrition, doing cleanses like Young Living 5 Day Nutritive Cleanse, may help you to feel such a sense of control over your body.
There are many different cleanses one can do. The 5-Day Nutritive CleanseTM facilitates gentle and effective cleansing to improve overall health and well-being.* A minimum of four, easy cleanses a year with our 5-Day Nutritive Cleanse and continued nutritional maintenance will help balance the extremes of the modern diet.

There are many Young Living ways that may help you along this important journey, long bend in the road. Diffusing many of Young Livings therapeutic grade essential oils may help in emotional release and wearing the oils like a perfume, throughout the day may help to give you strength, courage and also for calming.
I hope to hear back from many that want to join with me to have 2010 be one of the healthiest years of our lives. I would love to hear from you and answer any questions I am able to and to give more suggestions and support, and I would also appreciate the same from you. May our 2010 resolution be the biggest losers, and that is in a positive scent for sure.

About 75 percent of U.S. households use air fresheners, according to NRDC. The air freshener industry is now worth over $1.72 billion in the United States, a 50-percent increase over 2003.
It is estimated that 95% of chemicals used in fragrances are synthetic compounds derived from petroleum (petroleum is a liquid mixture of hydrocarbons that is present in certain rock strata, extracted and refined to produce fuels including gasoline, kerosene, and diesel oil).
It is estimated that more than 3000 different chemicals are used in fragrance production.
Even most essential oils are not entirely natural; the aromatherapy oils sold in stores, even those sold in health food stores. Harsh chemicals are used by most companies in their extraction process. Chemical solvents such as hexane and heptanes are used to extract the maximum amount of essential oil from the plant, so it is important to buy superior quality oils from a source you can trust – such as Young Living Essential Oils.
Why do air fresheners make us sick?
Air fresheners coat nasal passages (more about the olfactory system) with an oil film and/or reduce your ability to smell odors. These products often contain Formaldehyde – a highly toxic material that can irritate eyes, nose, throat, and skin. High exposure can cause nausea, headaches, nosebleeds, dizziness, memory loss and shortness of breath.
The main toxin in room fresheners, urinal cakes, moth balls, paints, household cleaning products, and vehicle exhaust fumes is 1,4 dichlorobenzene (1,4 DCB).
A recent National Institute of Environmental Health Services (NIEHS) study published in Environmental Health Perspectives showed that among 953 adults 1,4 DCB was linked to a reduction in lung function.
Check your household products, read the labels to see if they contain 1,4 DCB. If they do, refuse to use and buy them!
Even air fresheners marketed as “all-natural” or “unscented” contain hazardous chemicals. The term “all-natural” has come to mean absolutely nothing, the only thing that is required to label a product as “All-Natural” is that at one point in time, the ingredient came from nature. Even products labeled as “Organic” do not have to be completely organic.
The thing that disgusts me most is the manipulation in advertising promoting their product as being better because it contains essential oils, this is so misleading to consumers.
What consumers really need to know is this…
Only 2% of ALL essential oils distilled in the entire world are completely pure of toxic chemicals and considered high quality. This means that the chances of a company using a truly pure essential oil is absolutely zero! No company is going to use a higher quality essential oil in their product because of the expense. Their market targets people who don’t know the difference. At the end of the day, all they’re concerned with is how much money ends up in ‘their’ pocket – they’re not at all concerned with your health or the health of your kids and pets. And believe me, the health problems these products cause is costing us all a fortune in health care. It’s unbelievable the chemicals they’re ‘allowed’ to use, and they are NEVER tested, nor are they required to reveal their full list of ingredients.
What many consumers do not know is how simple and inexpensive it is to make their own products; whether it’s making their own air fresheners, their own cleaning products, or their own personal care products.
The most valuable piece of information I can share with you is this…
I can guarantee you that I spend less money every month on air fresheners, household cleaning products, and personal care products than someone who buys off-brand (cheap) products. Plus, I save tons of money over time than those folks do because I’m not getting sick from using the products they have in their homes, health care costs are FAR more expensive than making smart choices that prevent you from being exposed daily to products that are making you sick over time.
Simply using Thieves Ultra Toothpaste alone has saved me many thousands of dollars in dental expenses. The Thieves Ultra Toothpaste is like no other I have ever seen – it actually out-performs all others. But that’s getting off topic, I just had to let you know that it makes a huge difference.
Making my own air fresheners and diffusing my YL essential oils helps prevent us from getting a cold and flu because the essential oils actually kill those microorganisms without exposing us to harmful chemicals. See some of my favorite household and personal care tips and recipes, it’s so easy to make your own products!
From Ask Dr. Weil: Air Fresheners – are they bad for my health?
Q: I use air fresheners in my home, but have been told I shouldn’t. Are they bad for my health?
A: It certainly looks like they are. Recent research strongly suggests that they raise your risk of a number of pulmonary diseases. Last year researchers found that being exposed to chemicals from air fresheners as little as once a week may increase your odds of developing asthma symptoms by 71 percent. And a 2006 study showed that people with high blood levels of the chemical 1,4 dichlorobenzene commonly found in air fresheners – were more likely to experience a decline in lung function.
Other studies point to a cancer link. University of California, Berkeley, researchers determined that, when used in small, poorly ventilated rooms, some air fresheners emit pollutants that create high levels of formaldehyde, a carcinogen shown to cause cancer in animals and respiratory irritation in humans.
Last year, the Natural Resources Defense Council evaluated 14 air fresheners, 12 of which had varying amounts of phthalates, chemicals that may affect fertility, cause cancer, and trigger developmental abnormalities in infants. The NRDC and other environmental groups filed a petition calling for all air freshener-related products to be tested for consumer safety and regulated by the government.
I recommend freshening the air by opening windows and eliminating the sources of unpleasant odors. If you enjoy aromas indoors, opt for natural items such as a lavender plant, potted herbs, or a bouquet of fresh flowers.
Andrew Weil, M.D., is a pioneer in the field of holistic health and founder and director of the Program in Integrative Medicine at the College of Medicine, University of Arizona. He received his medical training at Harvard University.
The term “aromatherapy” was coined by the French chemist Ren-Maurice Gattefoss in the early 1920s. Gattefoss spent his life devoted to essential oils and their healing properties. However, for more than 6,000 years prior to Gattefoss, aromatherapy had been used by the Egyptians, Romans, and the Greeks. Imhotep, an Egyptian physician, suggested that oils be used for massage, bathing, and embalming the dead. Hippocrates, known as the father of modern medicine, used aromatic smoke and vapors to purge Athens of the plague.
Today, much has been theorized regarding the effects of diffusing essential oils, which can be considered similar to the aromatic smoke used by Hippocrates. It has been hypothesized that when essential oils are diffused, they can increase atmospheric oxygen by releasing oxygenating molecules into the air. Not only can essential oils increase oxygen in the atmosphere, they also increase the body’s ability to transport oxygen into the cells. The lipid-soluble structure of essential oils allows them to easily penetrate the cell membranes of the nose and enter into the bloodstream. Once in the bloodstream, the oils can help transport oxygen and nutrients into the cells.
Primary Benefits
Transform your surroundings: Create a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere or instantly brighten the mood of your home or office.
Eliminate odors: Remove lingering smells without resorting to synthetic air fresheners.
Protect your family’s health: Safeguard your family’s health by detoxing your home from harmful household chemicals.
Aroma Coverage: Depending on which essential oil is being used, the aroma from the Home Diffuser will fill a 700-square-foot area.
Noise: The Home Diffuser is virtually silent; all you may hear is a faint hum from the ultrasonic fan.
Therapeutic Value: The Home Diffuser can run for hours on just a few drops of oil. However, the more oil you put in the diffuser, the more oil will be dispersed in the air for your therapeutic needs.
How to Make Your Own Spray Air Freshener
What you will need:
14 oz. spray bottle (get the ones that are slightly more expensive, they last a lot longer than the cheap spray bottles)
Essential Oils (I only use and recommend Young Living Essential Oils)
Water
Fill spray bottle 7/8 of the way full with water, add 20-30 drops of your chosen essential oil blend or combination of singles). Give the spray bottle a little shake and spray into the air; I like to hold the bottle high, towards the ceiling, when I spritz. I also like to give surfaces (door knobs, wall light switches, bathroom and kitchen surfaces) a little spray too as this will help kill the germs that can spread cold and flu.
Good Essential Oil choices for homemade air freshener spray or Home Diffuser:
Thieves (well known for it’s germ and mold killing abilities, this is an extremely popular choice, smells clean!)
Citrus Fresh (a blend of citrus oils, nice fresh scent)
Christmas Spirit (this blend is very nice during winter, a warm pine scent)
Orange & Lavender combined (fresh and clean scent, great for stress and anxiety also)
Purification (kills odors and germs, adding some Orange to this blend is a very nice scent)
Peppermint (really kills odors in the air, keeps away ants and mice too!).
