In Core Nutrition Part I, and Core Nutrition Part II, we covered the first four of six important area’s the body can benefit tremendously from by taking on a consistent basis. These four area’s covered were, antioxidants, essential fatty acids, essential sugars, and probiotics. In way of review, health authorities have long since taught that in order to maintain and even acquire good health, one would do well to build a lifestyle of consistently cleansing and nourishing the body. These six area’s of supplementation have been being discovered to do just that. In this article on core nutrition, we will cover the last two supplements, a whole food supplement and enzymes.
A whole food supplement is nothing like the regular supplements people have purchased from health, grocery, and even drug stores for years. I am sure we have all heard it said that it is important to take a “good vitamin” or else you will just pee it out. Some people have noticed that their supplements never even dissolved (i.e. they were eliminated in other ways)! So many people have been on a vitamin/mineral supplement for years and never really noticed that it did much good. The thing is, most regular vitamin and mineral supplements are not easily absorbed by the body. The are ingested, but not assimilated. In other words, the molecule particles are either to
big, or not recognized by the body as being a helpful nutrient.
Whole food supplements are completely different. I will never forget the first time I got on a whole food supplement. The energy I felt was remarkable. In way of testimony; when I was pregnant with my son, I took a regular health food store vitamin/mineral prenatal, I wanted to take a wholefood one, but didn’t think we could afford it at the time (generally they range around $50.00 for a months supply). When I was pregnant with my daughter, we spared no expense, and I took a whole food supplement. The difference between the two babies health was phenomenal. My daughter was born in far better health they my boy. My son, to this day, has more little health problems compared to his sister who is the perfect picture of health. Never again will I mess around with anything other then a whole food supplement for this reason. One of the things I love about Young Livings True Source whole food supplement, is whole sale cost for it is less then $35.00, and it actually slightly exceeds the recommended daily intake (which is not a completely accurate guideline for what people really need, some may need more and some less). The wonderful thing about a whole food supplement, is you will never get too much vitamin A, or iron, and so on and so forth because it is in a condensed food form. Therefore all the vitamins and minerals that are needed by the body are absorbed, and any extra is simply discarded by the body! To view a pdf on True Source, click here.

Now we come to the area of enzymes. Enzymes could be considered both, nourishing and cleansing. Enzymes are a necessary component in every aspect of life, even cell function and especially in digestion of food. They break down food so that the essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals may be absorbed into the body. When we are born, we are equipped with a certain amount of enzymes. As we age, these start to run out. When we eat cooked food, this takes enzymes from our bodies in order to digest the cooked food. Raw foods are full of enzymes and therefore beneficial to the body, especially since they may contain some enzymes our bodies do not. Since a lack of digestive enzymes in food forces the body to produce it its own an individuals own enzyme reserve may become depleted. In cases like this, the enzymes used to maintain a functional metabolism are taken to digest the food.
This is very bad since metabolic enzymes do more then just keep a person thin, they are also involved in every process of the body from the immune system, circulatory system, liver, kidneys, spleen, pancreas, and even in vision, breathing and thinking! Clearly, if one does not eat all raw foods it may be wise to supplement with some enzymes. I have known people who used enzymes in between their meals to digest the undigested fats and proteins in their blood, and in turn they lost weight. One customer who came into the health food store where I used to work lost 60 lbs by doing this!
One of the wonderful things about therapeutic grade essential oils (the only kind Young Living provides) is that they have the ability to perform as enzymes do. Therapeutic grade essential oils are pure, and high power (they are actually tested to guarantee potency basically, and make sure they contain active ingredients in high enough quantities to produce results). These types of oils have been found to digest things in the body that are not supposed to be there, from undigested food particles in the blood to bad pathogens (germs). I used to assist a doctor with blood work at one of my jobs before I became a homemaker. In every single person who’s blood that was tested, be they with disease or supposedly perfectly healthy, there were undigested fats, proteins, and even parasites in the blood. These were three of the most common things we saw. Dr Gary Young, founder of Young Living, discovered this disturbing fact in his clinical observations as well, and he found that the blood could not penetrate the cells (bringing nutrients to them) like this because of low oxygen levels. He discovered that by enhancing supplements and foods with essential oils that nutrients were more easily absorbed, and that the undigested food particles were no longer detectable in the blood.
Young Living provides a variety of wonderful, essential oil infused enzymes for specific needs. Essentialzyme is an advanced multiple enzyme formula for improving digestion and assimilation of nutrients, and it contains enzymes to assist pancreatic function. Carbozyme contains enzymes that are beneficial in digesting carbs, Lipozyme is to assist with the digestion of fats, and there is Polyzyme to help with proteins, and Detoxyzyme to help detox the body and digest. Young Living also provides a delicious super food meal replacement that is packed with whole food nutrients, whey, wolfberries, fiber, and yes, even enzymes and essential oils. I actually give this to my children some days in place of a multivitamin as there is more too it, and they love it! *Note, those with stomach ulcers should not take enzymes containing protease until they have remedied the ulcer.
Lastly, but not least, we come to the area of a body detox. To explain the concept of cleansing, or doing a body detox, let’s elaborate. Everyone has a trash can in their home. What would happen if nobody ever took the trash out when it was full? Soon it would be spilling over. Eventually it would start taking up more and more space in the room. The house would start stinking, and…you get the idea! This is similar to what happens to our bodies when we never detox. The healthier one’s lifestyle is, and the less chemicals they are exposed to, the less “trash” there is going to be and the less one would need to detox. Most people don’t have that healthy of a lifestyle though. Health authorities such as Carrie L’Esperance in her book Seasonal Detox suggest detoxing with the seasons change, even if fairly healthy. If you would like to know more about how and why to detox, see my articles on The Importance of a Body Detox.
