How to use essential oils and get successful results begins with knowing how to use your oils properly, particularly when they are therapeutic-grade essential oils. This is a brief overview of the three basic ways essential oils can be used. You will discover that simply using high quality essential oils for aromatherapy purposes is terrific and that
it is only just the beginning!
1) Aromatherapy
- Direct Inhalation: Directly inhale the oil from the bottle.
- Diffusing: Use one of Young Living’s essential oil diffuser to disperse oil in a micro-fine vapor into the air, more.
- Humidifier: Fill a humidifier with water then place a tissue or cloth, sprinkled with a few drops of oil, in front of the escaping vapor.
- Steam: Place a few drops of oil in hot water, cover your head and the container with a towel, and breathe deeply and slowly.
- Bath: In a small dish, add 2-4 drops of essential oil to 1 cup Epsom Salt or Sea Salt, pour under running bath water, soak for 20 minutes.

2) Topical Applications
- Direct Application: Therapeutic-grade essential oils can be applied directly to the crown of the head, to the temples, behind the ears, over vital organs, to the feet, and many other locations. Dilution with a carrier oil, such as V-6, may be required.
- Massage: Essential oils can be used before, during, and after therapeutic massage. For a full body massage; add 4 drops of essential oil to 2 TBSP carrier oil (such as V-6).
- Perfume: With natural, earthy, and exotic aromas, many essentials oils and blends can also be worn as a perfume.

Cooking with food-grade (therapeutic-grade) essential oils is a wonderful way to get clean and clear flavor into foods and beverages. This refreshing Peppermint Iced Tea recipe is easy and welcomed on hot summer days. Peppermint oil has a cooling effective on the body.
Being extremely concentrated, essential oils contain virtually all of the plants healing nutrients, oxygenating molecules, amino acid precursors, co-enzyme A factors, trace minerals, enzymes, vitamins, hormones and more. Because therapeutic-grade essential oils are far more concentrated than the fresh or dried herbs they are 50 to 70 times more therapeutically potent than the herbs and plants they are derived from.
One of my favorite ways to use my Young Living essential oils is in a glass of water. This is very refreshing and tasty. For those who are watching their weight, this is an excellent way to get a nice flavor and no calories! Additionally, you will be getting the benefit of therapeutic-grade essential oils.
The local strawberries are in season now at our local western NC farm stands and not a moment too soon! Like many, I love the scent and flavor of locally grown fresh strawberries. The only thing that makes these juicy and fragrant berries more sensational is their health benefits.
I love cooking with my Young Living essential oils because it’s one way I can get the benefits of the essential oils internally. Now of course you cannot ingest just any essential oil because about 98 percent of the essential oils on the market are adulterated and not fit for consumption. So please do not substitute other brands in any of the recipes you find in this blog.
