"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Warts are a virus that is easily spread by touching things and/or sharing towels, etc. The virus can enter skin through tiny (or not so tiny) cuts on the skin and kids who bite their nails, don’t wash hands thoroughly often enough are most susceptible. Warts can take 6 mos. to 2 yrs to go away on their own. The viruses that cause warts are passed from person to person by close physical contact or from a surface that a person with a wart touches, like a bathmat or a shower floor. A tiny cut or scratch can make any area of skin more vulnerable to warts. Also, picking at a wart can spread warts to other parts of the body.

I would say these would be in order…

  • Wash hands with Thieves Foaming Hand Soap at home at least 4x a day.
  • Thieves Waterless Hand Sanitizer (send each kid to school with a bottle).
  • Each kid has their own towel.
  • Use Thieves Household Cleaner for cleaning all surfaces around the home (it’s all-purpose so you can use it in place of all other cleaners, it’s cheaper in the long run compared to store bought cleaning products too, especially if you buy the 64oz. size). Thieves Cleaner can also be used in place of laundry detergent (use 1-2 capfuls per load, no laundry detergent or other products. Note: Thieves Cleaner will not make suds because it does not contain Sodium laurel sulfate (SLS) (which is the ingredient that makes ALL of the products we buy sudsy (it’s also toxic), just know that it is cleaning thoroughly.
  • I would also apply a few drops of the essential oil blend Melrose to the location, Melrose is good for warts and healing skin conditions.clove essential oil
  • I would add several drops of Clove, Lemongrass or Australian Blue essential oil to my Thieves Foaming Soap and Waterless Hand Purifier, Lemongrass is known for it’s anti-viral properties.
  • Don’t scrape or pick at the warts while waiting for them to go away as this will only prolong the issue, spread the virus, or complicate the matter.

Also make sure that your child:

  • soaks the wart in warm water and removes dead skin on the surface of the wart with an emery board (that’s never going to be used for nails) before applying any remedy. Be careful not to file into it.
  • keeps the area of the wart covered while the remedy works
  • knows not to rub, scratch, or pick at it to avoid spreading the virus to another part of the body or causing the wart to become infected.

Call your doctor if:

  • you have a young child or infant with a wart anywhere on the body
  • your child (of any age) has a wart on the face, genitals, or rectum

Also call the doctor if a wart or surrounding skin is:

  • painful
  • red
  • bleeding
  • swollen
  • oozing pus

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Basil and Cinnamon Bark essential oilsRepelling insects naturally, without chemicals, using essential oils, aromatherapy, is a terrific way to be more ‘Green’ this summer. You will need to keep in mind that not all essential oils are created equally, 98% of what’s on the market is junk and will never produce desirable results, nor will they help those who prefer more eco-friendly lifestyle achieve their goals.

This easy recipe is terrific for making beeswax candles for your own backyard patio, or as a hostess gift for summer picnic’s and barbecues.

The moulds that you choose for the shape of your candle can be made of simple re-purposed items such as paper towel rolls (peel the paper cardboard off when wax has hardened), small Mason jars, or a small terra cotta pot, see what you have available around the house to re-purpose.

Essential Oil Insect Repellent Beeswax Candle Recipe

You will need:

  • Mould (see my ideas above, or get creative with your own ideas) – the size of the mould determines how many candles you can make, this recipe should make 4 candles using the tiny terra cotta pots)
  • Beeswax (one brick)
  • 2 TBSP Carrier Oil (olive oil)
  • Candle Wick (cut a little longer than the length of your mould)
  • 7-10 drops (total alone or combined) Young Living Essential Oil (see mosquito repellent list below)

Place the wick in your desired mould. Over low heat, slowly melt the beeswax in a double boiler. Add your desired essential oil(s). Pour the beeswax mixture into the mould with wick, making sure the the wick stays centered during pouring. Let stand until wax is firm.

Essential Oil List for Repelling Mosquitoes

  • Cedarwood
  • Clove
  • Eucalyptus
  • Frankincense
  • Thyme
  • Rosemary
  • Geranium
  • Lemongrass
  • Peppermint
  • Basil
  • Cinnamon Bark
  • Lemon

Tip: try combining 3 of the above essential oils to create a signature blend. Such as: Thyme, Geranium and Lemongrass… or… Clove, Peppermint and Cedarwood, or… Rosemary, Lemon and Cinnamon.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

For the last 3 years, at the end of winter through the end of summer,  we have had a steady and resilient flow of ants in my kitchen.  They come in from one of two spots…behind my backsplash at the sink, or the bottom corner of the kitchen.  In the past I’ve sprayed them with window cleaner, which kills them on contact.  I hated this method, but thought it was the lesser of the two evils compared to professional ant killer spray.  Plus, the thought of spraying an any chemical pesticide bug killer inside my home, spraying a poison near my food especially, made me sick just to think about.

This year, right on schedule, my parade of ants started near the floor.  This time I went to my Young Living Essential Oils, & grabbed my bottle of clove.  I put a few drops straight down on my floor, using my finger to spread the oil to make an arc from corner to corner.  I sat back & watched in amazement!  The ants absolutely would not cross the line of clove oil.  The ones in the kitchen would not cross the oil line to go “home”, & the ones coming in would not cross the line to come into the kitchen.  I watched in fascination as one by one they approached the line and quickly made a retreat!  Hooray, I’d finally won.

This went on for a few days.  The ants got smart & started using the location behind the sink.  Out I came with my clove oil, using drops on both the backsplash & stone rubbing it in as I went.  Again, the ants hated it!  They tried for a few days, finally giving up.

About one month later I noticed a few ants  down in the corner of the floor.  I realized I had washed the floor four or five times by then.  I reapplied a few drops of Clove Oil, and I have yet to have them return!

What a wonderful, natural, chemical and pesticide free safe  way to rid a room in your home of ants.

I have not tried diluting the Clove oil & applying it with a sprayer on the outside of my home.  I think diluting it may ruin it’s effect.  I’m satisfied applying it straight to the areas I see them coming in, and although I have not seen them in awhile, I’m continuing to use the Clove oil as a preventative measure with great success!

A fresh smelling environment is so much better than a stale or stinky environment.  Wouldn’t you like to know that when you choose to “clean” up the smell in your surroundings that you were breathing in natural scents, rather than scents that are full of toxins and chemicals? There is a way to freshen the air naturally, and to be safe for you breath and to be be Eco-friendly for the environment.

Using Young Living’s therapeutic grade essential oils in your home environment is a way to add oxygen and cut down on overgrowth of unwanted microbes such as fungus (mold and mildew), pathogenic viruses, and bacteria.

The best way to address unwanted things in your air is by using a cold-air nebulizer diffuser and therapeutic-grade Young Living essential oils undiluted. (Read more about diffusing)

A cold-air nebulizer diffuser puts a micro-fine mist of the essential oil into the air and allows the mist to permeate your room(s). Only cool air is used and recommended. Never use heat – such as a candle, burner, or a light bulb ring on your therapeutic oils. Heat destroys the therapeutic qualities of the essential oil – heat fractures the molecules.

Therapeutic-grade essential oils also have well-documented antiviral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties – to further improve indoor air quality.

Young Living clove, cinnamon and nutmeg essential oils are FDA approved food grade essential oils. Not only can you use these essential oils to cook with but they are also beneficial for many medicinal purposes.

Clove essential oil:

Historical Data: The people on the island of Ternate were free from epidemics until the 16th century, when Dutch conquerors destroyed the clove trees that flourished on the islands. Many of the islanders died from the epidemics that followed.

Cloves were reputed to be part of the “Marseilles Vinegar” or “Four Thieves Vinegar” used by grave-robbing bandits to protect themselves during the 15th century plague.

Clove was listed in Hildegard’s Medicine, a compilation of early German medicines by highly-regarded Benedictine herbalist Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179).

Healers in China and India have used clove buds since ancient times as part of their treatments.

Eugenol, clove’s principal constituent, was used in the dental industry for years to numb gums. Read the rest of this entry »
