The heart chakra is located in the centre of the chest and is the bridge between the three lower chakras and the three upper chakras. It mediates between the worlds of spirit and matter. The heart chakra is concerned with forgiveness, compassion and unconditional love.
The heart chakra is associated with the heart, chest, lungs and circulation; the endocrine gland which relates to the heart chakra is the Thymus. The Thymus gland produces hormones that stimulate growth. It also produces lymphocytes which form part of the white blood cell’s defence system. Studies have shown that auto-immune diseases (when the immune system attacks itself) have an emotional link and are not simply due to physical or environmental causes. For this reason, EFT would be an incredibly useful tool for clearing imbalances in the heart chakra.
The colour green is traditionally known to be psychologically grounding. Green is a healing energy and carries a vibration of love and forgiveness. It can be very beneficial during times of stress and trauma. Green stimulates the heart chakra and has an effect on blood pressure and all conditions of the heart. It also enhances the immune system. Green is the colour of nature and is very soothing.
Physical symptoms of heart chakra imbalance are shallow breathing, high blood pressure, heart disease and cancer. On an emotional level, an imbalance will appear as fear of betrayal or commitment, co-dependency or melancholy. When the heart chakra is too open you may be possessive or withhold emotionally in order to punish others. When this chakra is blocked there will be fear of rejection, a feeling of unworthiness and self-pity.
We must be able to love and accept the dark sides of ourselves as well as the sides we are most proud of if we are to experience unconditional love for ourselves. It is crucial to learn to forgive and have compassion for yourself and others when bolstering your heart chakra. Here is a link to a post I wrote on forgiveness which may provide some guidance in letting go of prior hurts and resentment.
Positive aspects of the heart chakra are the ability to have loving relationships with others, true self-acceptance and acceptance of others, unconditional love and compassion. People with well-balanced heart chakras are magnetic, radiant individuals. It is almost impossible not to be affected by their positive energy.
Aromatherapy is both an art and a science where the essential oils of plants and flowers are used to heal and boost emotional and spiritual well-being. Because essential oils contain the life essence of the plant, they assist in vibrational healing as well. Essential oils to help balance the heart chakra are:
- Rose helps bring balance and harmony with stimulating and uplifting properties.
- Bergamot is uplifting and relaxing and is good for building confidence and enhancing your mood.
- Melissa is strengthening and revitalizing, yet soothing and calming. It also supports the immune system.
- Joy – Inhaling this blend helps to remove the blocks to self-love. The fragrance promotes feelings of love, self-love and confidence. Love is the true source of all healing.
- Forgiveness - Use this blend to clear negative energy from your heart chakra and bring about a sense of peace.
- Acceptance promotes a feeling of accepting ourselves and others.
As with all intuitive work, harmony in the mind and body is best restored by following personal preference. Use the essential oils that resonate with you.
Ho’oponopono is an ancient Hawaiian practice of forgiveness. It is four simple statements with a very profound effect. The statements are: “I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. I love you.” Repeating those words as a mantra during meditation or while using EFT will greatly increase the healing and clearing benefits to your heart chakra. Click here for an article by Dr. Joe Vitale regarding a doctor named Ihaleakala Hew Len, who cured a complete ward of criminally insane patients using Ho’oponopono, without ever meeting one of them. Dr. Vitale and Dr. Len wrote a very interesting book called “Zero Limits” on the subject of Ho’oponopono and taking responsibility not only for your own actions but for everything in your life. The book is a thought-provoking read. You could also go to Dr. Vitale’s website for some further information.
In her book, “Chakra Clearing, Awakening Your Spiritual Power to Know and Heal”, Doreen Virtue, Ph.D. provides the following affirmation to clear the heart chakra:
“I am willing to release any fears that I have about receiving and giving love, now. I ask my holy spirit and light eternal to cleanse away all blocks that keep me from fully enjoying my love.”
Dr. Virtue has a CD with Chakra Clearing mediations for the morning and evening which are fantastic for clearing away blocks and imbalances in the chakras. Here is a link to her website. If you type “Doreen Virtue Chakra Clearing” into a search engine, it will bring up several places to purchase her books and CDs, and also some free resources.
“No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” Nelson Mandela
