Quality: Where are Young Living Essential Oils Sourced

Over the years more and more acreage and farms have been added to the Young Living Farms. At the moment of writing this post there are in-house farms in France, Idaho, Utah, Ecuador, Oman, and most recently the acquisition of thousands of acres in Peru.

St. Maries, Idaho, USA

Prior to 1992 when Gary Young purchased them, these 200 acres of pristine farmland had never been plowed or subjected to chemicals, pesticides, or fertilizers of any kind. The pure soil and climate make St. Maries an ideal location for growing and harvesting Lavender, Melissa, and Tansy.

Whispering Springs Farm in Mona, Utah, USA

Extending nearly 1,600 acres, the YL Whispering Springs Farm is home to the largest privately owned essential oil distillery in the world. Many different plants are harvested here for both our world market and for research.

Highland Flats Tree Farm in Naples, Idaho, USA

Since 2000, Highland Flats has hosted our annual winter harvest, distributors can join in harvesting Idaho Balsam Fir, Western Red Cedar, and Pine trees. Distributors may also participate in the farm’s annual spring reforestation project to replace the harvested trees.

Simiane-la-Rotonde, France

Known for its rolling hills and farms of fragrant lavender, the region of Provence, France, is home to the only American-owned lavender farm in the country. This farm produces Lavender, Lavandin, Rosemary, and Clary Sage.

Guayaquil, Ecuador

Since 2005, Young Living has used several hundreds of acres on their Ecuador farm to harvest and distill Eucalyptus Blue, Dorado Azul, Zaragosa, Lemongrass, Rosa morta, Oregano, Ylang Ylang, Basil, and many more. The Ecuador farm’s state-of-the-art distillery is the largest in South America.

Salalah, Oman

In 2010, Gary acquired farm acreage in Oman for cultivating Boswellia sacra (Sacred Frankincense). This precious and very special essential oil is being distilled in Oman and shipped to the YL warehouse for us to purchase.

Other Sources: Partnering with Farms and Distilleries

In cases where our essential oils are sourced from other indigenous countries (meaning where the specific plants are native) YL has partnered with the farmers and distillery. Each has been certified by YL as producing only Young Living Genuine Pure Essential Oils. Routinely each batch of essential oils received from these suppliers is thoroughly tested for purity, potency and adulteration, any found to not meet the high standards is  rejected. These farms and distilleries are visited often to ensure that they are producing the oils in the correct way, whereby YL can assure us that the essential oils sold to us meet exacting standards in every way.

Adulteration of essential oils is considered when undisclosed compounds are added to the oil altering its therapeutic value. This is usually done during the distillation process and done very often ‘after’ distillation just before the essential oil is bottled.
