Using Orange Essential Oil for Household Cleaning

I love using Orange essential oil for household cleaning this time of year. With its fresh, sweet citrus scent it’s as though it is bringing the freshness of spring indoors. Young Living’s sweet orange oil consists of about 85-96% d-Limonene. Limonene is an efficient cleaning agent which is promoted as being environmentally friendly and is preferable to petroleum distillates, as shown in the tips and recipes below.

The scent of YL Orange essential oil is considered much more pleasant than what is used in store-bought cleaners (because it’s higher quality and therefore contains more of its naturally occurring constituents that provide the most benefits).

Eliminate stinky odors in the fridge: add one drop orange oil to a cup of water. Using a sponge wipe surface of icebox, freezer, and oven.

Clean smelly trash cans! Add 3-6 drops of orange oil to 2 cups of water. Using a sponge wipe the sides and bottom of trash can. For really stubborn smells after wiping with the sponge, pour the mixture directly into the trash can and swirl it after for a minute.

If you’re like me and enjoy switching things up try adding a drop or two of these essential oils to the water: lemon, grapefruit, bergamot, Thieves, or Purification essential oil.

Cleaning oil and grease spatters from your stove cooktop and surrounding areas in the kitchen, including the top of the fridge! Add one drop orange oil to a cup of water. Using a sponge wipe surfaces clean.

Helps to get paint and grease off hands! Add a few drops of orange essential oil to hand soap to help clean off stubborn dirt, grease and even paint from dirty hands.

Orange (Citrus sinensis) essential oil has a rich, fruity scent that lifts the spirit while providing a calming influence on the body. Orange brings peace and happiness to the mind. It is rich in the powerful antioxidant d-limonene and aids in maintaining normal cellular regeneration.*

An extra tip: Orange oil may also be used to enhance the flavor of food and water, yes! Add a drop or two to a glass of water when you are feeling like you need to jazz things up a bit and uplift your spirits!*

*Do not substitute another brand of essential oil as 98 percent of them are adulterated with chemicals and cannot be ingested. More on using essential oils for cooking and flavoring foods.
