A popular way to use therapeutic essential oils to stay well during plane and vacation travel is to apply a couple drops of Thieves essential oils to the soles of your feet before leaving home – and – put several drops of Thieves essential oil or the blend R.C. on a cotton ball, place the cotton ball in a small baggie and every hour open the baggie and take several deep inhalations. The benefits of this are likely to help you not catch a cold or virus while traveling.

For air sickness, many rub a drop of either Peppermint or Ginger behind their ears. You will want to use a little carrier oil with either o these essential oils as they may be slightly irritating to delicate skin.

Prevent Motion Sickness Recipe

  • 2 drops Peppermint
  • 2 drops Ginger
  • 5 drops V-6 Massage Oil (a carrier oil)

Rub 6-10 drops of the above mixture on chest and stomach 1 hour before traveling.

Stomach Upsets, Stomach Cramping, Dysentery

Nothing can ruin a vacation than having to be near a toilet all of the time. There are a few therapeutic essential oil choices for bad bugs in the tummy. The most important thing to start doing a couple of weeks or month before leaving home is to get plenty of good bacteria in your gut – Life 5 is an excellent probiotic, 1-2 capsules daily are usually enough to get you in good shape. Young Living’s Life 5 is superior to all other acidolphilis supplements I’ve seen – I highly recommend it. Please check with authorities before leaving on your trip and see how many capsules you are allowed to bring (a full bottle may not be allowed, check first).

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

The aroma-therapy benefits of therapeutic essential oils should not be overlooked. The effects scent has on different centers of the brain can help us shift and move out of states of limitation that hold us back from meeting our fullest purpose in life. The fragrance of an essential oil can directly affect everything from your emotional state to your lifespan.

Use caution with essential oils if you have a serious medical condition Aromatherapy is the act of inhaling essential oils, and the topical application of essential oils. Since the beginning of Aromatherapy, the practice has encompassed human pathology and the treatment of different conditions (emotional and physical) with essential oils. As Aromatherapy developed into a practice it adopted an holistic approach which encompasses the body, the mind and the spirit (energy).

When any scent or fragrance is inhaled, the odor molecules travel up the nose where they are trapped by olfactory membranes that are protected by the lining inside the nose. Each odor molecule fits like a little puzzle piece into specific receptor cell sites that line a membrane, known as the olfactory epithelium. Each one of these hundreds of millions of nerve cells is replaced every 28 days. When stimulated by odor molecules, this lining of nerve cells triggers electrical impulses to the olfactory bulb in the brain. The olfactory bulb then transmits the impulses to the gustatory center (where the sensation of taste is perceived), the amygdala (where emotional memories are stored), and other parts of the limbic system of the brain. As a woman, many of us are plagued with various symptoms due to hormone imbalances. Unfortunately in most instances medical doctors prescribe synthetic pharmaceuticals that are laden with a list of potentially harmful side effects. Synthetic progesterone raises the risk of breast cancer as the ingredient MPA is a known carcinogen.

Lowered progesterone levels cause:

  • Post menopausal syndrome
  • Migraines
  • Hot flashes
  • Night sweats
  • TMJ
  • Insomnia
  • Neuropathies
  • Low libido
  • Hair loss

When I was menopausal, I refused going on birth control pills when my doctor prescribed them. One therapy that helped me with my hot flashes was to blend tofu, vanilla soy milk and fresh fruit. I was relieved of my hot flashes in less then a week and they never returned!!  Not all women can drink soy milk so this is not an option.

Most common causes of low hormones in younger women is pituitary damage, which may be caused by gymnastic, and/or cheer leading falls, motor vehicle accidents, surgery, trauma, shock, tumors or intense stress.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Piggy Bank, saving moneyThere are many things we can do daily that conserve energy, reduce monthly expenses, and improve the quality of our lives. Some are:

1. Use ceiling fans! They use 1/10 of the electricity as A/C. My results: my electric bills have dropped $150 to $200 a month! This does keep the place comfortable most of the time, when I feel too hot I take a shower and use my Young Living essential oils. So for the couple of really hot days we have per month I am sure happy to make this trade-off and be saving hundreds of dollars every month!

2. Dry laundry on a clothesline – they will smell better too!

In 1998 The Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History mounted an exhibition titled “American Clothespins,” which consisted in part of displays of patent models of clothespins from as long ago as the 1850s. People came in droves. Those old wooden pegs inspired a huge outpouring of nostalgia. Then one day Barbara Janssen, the curator behind the exhibition, was walking through the museum and saw a boy turn to his father and ask, “What’s a clothespin, Dad?” It’s no wonder the child had never seen one before.

Nearly 60 percent of American homes are now equipped with automatic clothes dryers. It’s in the shadow of the dryer that quaint old clothespins and clothespin doll kits turn up on auction at eBay. The device has become so superfluous that Janssen herself, the leading expert on its evolution, has no use for it beyond its appeal as a collector’s item. She once purchased a pack with playful flower-shaped heads at Target, but not to hang garments with. When asked if she has a clothesline, she replies, “Of course not. I use a dryer.” And, let’s not forget about the clothesline to hold the laundry and clothespins! Read the rest of this entry »

How do you use Therapeutic-grade Peppermint essential oil to stay cool during hot summerime weather? It is very well known that therapeutic Peppermint oil has a ‘cooling’ effect on the body. But before I go any further please take note… Peppermint essential oil is extremely potent, it’s estimated that ‘one’ drop of your Young Living Peppermint oil is the equivalent of of 28 cups of Peppermint tea! So… always use it mindfully and sparingly!

With that said, here are some cooling tips to help you feel more comfortable when the mercury hits numbers that are challenging.

4 Ways to Stay Cool with Peppermint Oil

1. Peppermint Spray

Take a 4oz. spray bottle and fill it with pure water, then add 2 drops of Peppermint essential oil (I only use and recommend the Young Living brand of essential oils because they are from sustainable farms and are superior quality.) Give the back of your neck and your back, legs and feet a spritz every so often.

2. Get Cool and be ‘Green’ Too!

What if you want to be living more consciously and don’t want to buy or use a spray bottle, simple… take a bowl, fill it half way with water, add a drop of Young Living’s Peppermint essential oil and dunk a wash cloth in it, wring it out, then dab the wash cloth on the back of your neck, your legs, and the bottoms of your feet.

3. Peppermint Water Read the rest of this entry »

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

With more people becoming conscious of global warming and chemicals used daily in homes causing us very real harm I find it surprising to hear that some consider using Equal or Sweet ‘n Low as  a ‘Natural’ ant killer. It’s as if they think these sugar substitutes are as harmless as regular cane sugar. For those who think cane sugar is bad for your health they would be happy to know they”ve been ill advised by marketing. Taking a closer look at this industry we find…

Scientists were working on a new ulser drug when one of the scientists discovered this poisonous substance was incredibly sweet… and that is where the story of sugar substitutes begins, as a product made to kill ants.

Aspartame was endorsed by the U.S. FDA as a safe product in 1981, and has been ever since, and recommended by many doctors as a good alternative sweetener.

By the 1990’s, the FDA had a list of 92 symptoms reported to them by 10,000 consumers, a list revealed to the public under the Freedom of Information Act. This alone is enough to make you seriously question… “who” is the FDA working for??? It’s certainly NOT us!

Sold commercially as NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, Equal-Measure and Canderel – aspartame can be found in more than 6,000 products, including but not limited to: Read the rest of this entry »

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

I love powdered cinnamon and therapeutic Cinnamon Bark essential oil from Young Living Essential Oils, which is one of my favorites. It’s especially nice in blends, such as the very popular Thieves essential oil blend. In the study below it was found that cinnamon ‘leaf’ oil from the species Cinnamomum osmophloeum has simplar properties as Cinnamomum cassia, which has a Trans-cinnamaldehyde content of 70-88 percent. Cinnamon Bark Cinnamomum verum has a trans-cinnamaldehyde content of 40-50 percent and a Eugenol content of 20-30 percent.

This is all worth noting because all aromatherapy oils labeled ‘Cinnamon’ rarely come from any of the species mentioned above – and – even more rarely are they distilled properly from the ‘bark’ – this makes a huge difference in the results, whether used to kill insect pests, killing micro-organisms, or in healing. See my previous article, Does Your Cinnamon Bark and Benefit?

When I read a study with findings like this there are things I would want the reader to know before making any attempt to kill insect pests, the environment, or using the essential oil with humans. First, Cinnamon Bark essential oil is considered a ‘hot’ essential oil; meaning it’s spicy and could irritate skin when used topically, it could also irritate mucous membranes when inhaled if it’s diffused alone for long periods of time, and should always be diluted. Environmentally speaking, any superior quality essential oil could damage plants, beneficial insects, fish, frogs/toads – so always be  extremely mindful not to use large amounts and make sure to only target the pest and not something we value to get the best results.

Always remember… ‘one’ drop of a superior quality essential oil is many times more powerful than a large bottle of a lesser quality essential oil! Read the rest of this entry »
