Systemic Lupus, arthritis, fatigue, pain constant chronic have been a daily part of my life for the last 20 years. I have wonderful doctors who have managed my disease as well as everything that comes with it, I am so grateful that I am blessed to have these wonderful doctors treating me. The one thing that no one has successfully managed is my pain. Although I used pain patches with oral pain killers, sadly the most they ever did was “take the edge off”. I was introduced to Young Living Essential Oils, They have had a positive profound impact in my life. I rarely use pain patches at all, have gone from eight plus heavy painkillers a day to 1 or 2, some days none!

I use a blend of Young Living Essential Oil anti-inflammatory oils (clove, oregano, Nutmeg, lemon, rosemary, basil, chamomile, lavander, peppermint with a few others) on my affected muscles, joints as well as my spine. Typically within 3-5 minutes at most I start to feel relief, shortly there after I am pain free. In 60 days my Sedimentation Rate has dropped 30 points and I no longer take ANY oral anti-inflammatory medicine!

Additionally, I was previously on a chemotherapy drug called Methotrexate to manage my disease. I am now off of Methotrexate for the last 30 days, I do not plan on restarting it. And, let’s be honest, when you’re in pain, chronically, it affects your mood and appearance to others. I can honestly say I am now in a better, if not good, jovial, happy uplifted mood almost every day. It just feels amazingly wonderful to be pain free the majority of the time for the first time in 20 years. Read the rest of this entry »

LavaDerm Cooling MistBring relief to stressed or sunburned skin with a blend of gentle skin-soothing ingredients including lavender essential oil and aloe vera. LavaDerm Cooling Mist Spray is a must for summertime and the all-natural family First Aid kit!

Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a fresh, sweet, floral, herbaceous aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it. Lavender is an adaptogen, and therefore can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. It is a great aid for relaxing and winding down before bedtime, yet has balancing properties that can also boost stamina and energy.

Therapeutic-grade lavender is highly regarded for skin and beauty. It may be used to soothe and cleanse common cuts, bruises, and skin irritations.

The French scientist René Gattefossé was among the first to discover these properties when he was severely burned in a laboratory explosion.

Essential oils are important to have on hand for camping.. Many times we may go unprepared and regret having left some items at home, so it’s nice to have a list to be reassured and not leave home without important items, especially for first aide.

It is most likely that there will be pesky bugs, lots of sun and maybe even a scrape or two. Perhaps while roasting marshmallow’s someone could get a burn from the hot marshmallow or a sunburn from too much sun. So, it’s definitely a good idea to be prepared for the unexpected that we hope won’t happen while camping.

The following is a list of essential oils to take along and how to use them for various situations. After each application, always follow with smelling the essential oil with the remainder of the scent that is on your hands, cup your hands over your nose and take several nice long deep inhalations. (Be mindful to not touch your face with your hands, just cup your hands about an inch away from your nose and face.)

  1. Cook from scratch. The healthiest way to eat is food made from scratch. This way, YOU have control over what your family is eating. Here is an experiment for you to try. Before you throw away your Hamburger Helper, or other boxed or frozen meal, cut off the ingredients list. Next, go to your computer, and start your own little research project on some of the ingredients names that you don’t recognize that are used in the meal you are preparing. For example, type in “what are dangers of soy?” “What are dangers of Monosodium Glutimate” and “What are dangers of sodium nitrate” (all common ingredients in packaged meals). Prepare to be shocked over some of the things you and your family have been eating!
  2. Avoid Antibiotic overuse. Antibiotic resistance is a growing problem among adults and children. This is dangerous in more ways then one. Read Antibiotics and Children and What to Do When Your Doctor Won’t Give You and Antibiotic to learn more. Read the rest of this entry »

Aromatherapy is a natural, non-invasive treatment system designed to affect the whole person, not just the symptom or disease, and to assist the body’s natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself by the correct use of essential oils.

From the dawn of the earliest recorded history, man has been drawn to aromatics and fragrant resins (such as Frankincense). Evidence of resins and plant oils (essential oils) were used for medicinal, ceremonial, or pleasurable purposes indicate most ancient civilizations practiced aromatherapy. Yoga pose

The scent of an essential oil can directly affect everything from our emotional state to our lifespan. What makes therapeutic essential oils unique is that they work differently than any other natural substance, and chemical fragrances have no therapeutic benefit at all (unless you want to consider a possible placebo affect therapeutic).

When any scent or fragrance is inhaled, the odor molecules travel up the nose where they are trapped by olfactory membranes that are protected by the lining inside the nose. Each odor molecule fits like a little puzzle piece into specific receptor cell sites that line a membrane, known as the olfactory epithelium. When stimulated by odor molecules, this lining of nerve cells triggers electrical impulses to the olfactory bulb in the brain. The olfactory bulb then transmits the impulses to the gustatory center (where the sensation of taste is perceived), the amygdala (where emotional memories are stored), and other parts of the limbic system of the brain. More on Aromatherapy and Olfactory.

Depending on the specific constituents in a particular essential oil, incorporating certain oils throughout a yoga, meditation or prayer routine may lead to increased energy, relaxation, focus, decreased stress, or deeper meditation.

By incorporating the use of essential oils into your practice, you can experience: Read the rest of this entry »
