Aromatherapy is far more than scented candles and fragrance products. It is the act of applying topically and inhaling a specific type of essential oils, therapeutic-grade (the highest quality). Since the beginning of Aromatherapy, the practice has encompassed human pathology and the treatment of different conditions (emotional and physical) with essential oils. As Aromatherapy developed into a practice it adopted an holistic approach which encompasses the body, the mind and the spirit (energy).

Aromatherapy is a natural, non-invasive remedy system designed to affect the whole person, not just the symptom or disease. Aromatherapy can assist the body’s natural ability to balance, regulate, heal and maintain itself through the correct use of essential oils. The benefits of aromatherapy are particularly noticeable when therapeutic-grade essential oils are used, providing a powerful aromatherapy benefit.

How Aromatherapy Works

When any scent or fragrance is inhaled, the odor molecules travel up the nose where they are trapped by olfactory membranes that are protected by the lining inside the nose. Each odor molecule fits like a little puzzle piece into specific receptor cell sites that line a membrane, known as the olfactory epithelium. Each one of these hundreds of millions of nerve cells is replaced every 28 days. When stimulated by odor molecules, this lining of nerve cells triggers electrical impulses to the olfactory bulb in the brain. The olfactory bulb then transmits the impulses to the gustatory center (where the sensation of taste is perceived), the amygdala (where emotional memories are stored), and other parts of the limbic system of the brain.

Because the limbic system is directly connected to the parts of the brain that control heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, memory, stress levels, and hormone balance, therapeutic-grade essential oils can have profound physiological and psychological effects. The sense of smell is the only one of the five senses directly linked to the limbic lobe of the brain, our emotional control center. More.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Cough and chest congestion can be very draining and put a hamper on our daily lives. Sometimes it catches us off guard and quickly takes over our ability to carry on as we normally would. It can last for a few days, a few weeks and unfortunately for some even longer.

However one may become inflicted with a bad cough and chest congestion it could be important to remember how it came about, so that you can avoid the onset again. The most important solution is resolving the discomfort as quickly as possible and hopefully without having to go to a doctor.

Natural alternatives and the ability to not have to rely on prescriptions or over the counter medications is one possible solution.  But where does one start?  Most importantly is being prepared and having in your medicine cabinet inventory on hand for the unforeseen circumstances that may come your way, like a cough or chest congestion.

Here is a list of essential oils and products for your medicine cabinet specific to chest congestion: Read the rest of this entry »

The colon or bowels? Nope, it’s in your mouth, the back of the tongue to be specific! The back of the tongue is literally teeming with pathogenic microorganisms.

There are…

“More bacteria per square inch live [on the back of the tongue] than on any other part of the body.” ~ Dr. John Richter founder of the Richter Center for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Breath Disorders

The problem is that few people use a toothbrush to remove these bacteria as part of their dental hygiene regimen. And even if the tongue were to receive a thorough scrubbing, many bacteria would remain and quickly repopulate the mouth.

“The terms oral health and general health should not be interpreted as separate entities. Oral health is integral to general health.”

One of my most favorite subjects to share with others is that the use is fluoride is dangerous and sometimes deadly, and that there absolutely is a safe option to chemicals you do not need in your mouth or life. The best solution I’ve found is Thieves Ultra Toothpaste and Thieves Mouthwash (purchase both here). For the moment, I want to discuss the huge downside of fluoride to help dispel misinformation and myths.

Fluoride has been documented to:

  • Deregulate the immune system
  • Increase the rate of bone cancer
  • Cause birth defects
  • Reduce IQ
  • Damage thyroid function
  • Increase lead, cadmium absorption
  • Decrease collagen creation, weaken bones

Studies on fluoride have shown:

The Raindrop Technique, developed by Gary Young and a Lakota medicine man almost two decades ago, uses a sequence of nine highly immune enhancing essential oils. The essential oils are dropped like rain from a height of about 6 inches onto the spine and then lightly massaged in using various hand to body techniques. This stimulates energy impulses and disperses the oils along the nervous system throughout the entire body. Raindrop Technique Essential Oils collection.

We all carry immune system depleting viruses and bacteria. Essential oils applied to the spinal column are absorbed through the nerves that feed the entire body. Wonderfully soothing, nurturing and relaxing, the Raindrop Technique can work its benefits in the body for days, weeks or months. With essential oils applied via the Raindrop Technique, the body can be brought into balance and the energy centers can be cleared and re-aligned. The Raindrop Technique also helps reduce spinal inflammation, creates an inhospitable environment for the viruses that hibernate along the spinal column, and may help to straighten any spinal curvatures. Although a session lasts about 45 minutes to an hour, the oils will continue to work in the body for a minimum of a week following the treatment.

Mothers Day is celebrated once a year and is our time to give extra special thanks and treatment to our Mothers.  It is a special day for them, and we can make any day special for them, but it is nice to have one day to focus on giving them a wonderful, loving day.

It does not have to cost a lot of money, or it can, the choice is yours to make as to what great memories are made with your mother on her day we celebrate her.

Whether you are going to shower her with extravagant gifts of jewelry, travel or fancy cars, or like most of us, giving her what we are able to in the form of our presence, or with smaller gifts, any of these loving ways will no doubt be received with great appreciation and love.

Here is a list of suggestions: Read the rest of this entry »

When I began using essential oils over twenty years ago I noticed two things, 1) the mold in my bathroom disappeared, and 2) we stopped getting sick. At the time I had no idea why these two things occurred, all I knew is that they did and it was in direct response to me bringing essential oils into my home and using them to make homemade cleaners and air fresheners.

I’ve learned a lot about essential oils since then and the thing that I have found most interesting is they are absolutely responsible for addressing things that relate to ‘unwanted’ germs and bacteria, both in my home and in my body. Since realizing the powers and effectiveness I have not and will never go back to using anything else, ever.

I was just reading an article (Study: Plant Oils Highly Effective Against Drug-Resistant Bacteria), science is catching up to what humans have known since humankind began, that the plants containing essential oils (not all plants have essential oils for us to distill) are extremely effective and because they are complex they do not produce bacteria that will grow resistance to their usage.

The article states that the study found”… Read the rest of this entry »

Essential oils for everyday useThis list of 32 ways, out of hundreds, to use Young Living Essential Oils in daily life will be helpful to those who desire a non-toxic home. It is so easy to use superior quality essential oils for aromatherapy and wellness. I think it is perhaps one of the easiest and cost efficient ways we can empower ourselves and stay well.

I began using essential oils about twenty-five years ago. At this point I use them for absolutely everything. Not only have I found them far more effective than over-the-counter products but they are far cheaper too! Particularly when you become a wholesale customer with Young Living.

All these years later, I can honestly say… “switching over to therapeutic-grade essential oils was one of the smartest things I’ve ever done. It’s made a difference in my health. It’s also saved me enormous amounts of money because these essential oils are used by the drop, not by the handful! I feel very empowered and smart fo making this choice so long ago. It’s not too late for you to get started!”

See how many products can be replaced when you switch over to therapeutic-grade essential oils.

1. Scented candles (how to safely do it yourself).

Light an unscented candle, blow out after a few minutes. Add your chosen essential oil to melted wax. Do not add essential oil while candle is lit as the oils are volatile and could flair up. Good choices are: Sensation, Peace & Calming, Gentle Baby, Citrus Fresh, Lavender, Sacred Mountain, Frankincense, Joy, Christmas Spirit, Evergreen Essence, or Abundance.

2. Freshen stinky sneakers and shoes.

Place cotton balls with a couple drops of Thieves, Peppermint, Geranium, Lemon or Tea Tree into shoes overnight.

3. Kill airborne germs or scent a room. Read the rest of this entry »
