Denise Linn has been one of my teachers, a woman who has helped me walk my path and inspire my daily thoughts and life. I just checked my email and this is the moving story she wrote…

What would you do if you were told that you had only five more days to live?
Who would you want to spend time with? What would want to do? What would be truly important… and what would pale in comparison?

I had just hung up the phone after talking to my wonderful friend Caroline. She was vibrant, joyous, loving and filled with radiance . . . and she’d been told that on Tuesday they were going to pull the plug and stop her blood transfusions and that by Wednesday or Thursday she’d be dead.

When I got off the phone I wanted to hit somebody or something . . . hard. I want to scream at the top of my lungs, “Why Caroline? Why? Why did Caroline get bone cancer? Why would our medical system do this?” I wanted a miracle. I wanted God and a legion of angels to come down and fix this. But this was my agenda . . . not Caroline’s. She was radiating a light that I just did not feel.

I’ve known Caroline for many years. I used to spend up to a month every year with her in London, when I traveled there twice a year to do seminars. I slept on her too-short couch, with my legs hanging over the end, in her flat on Portobello Road . . . after we had eaten our nightly India curry take-out with glee while talking late into the night about music, life and the universe. I wrote about her in one of my books. (Feng Shui for the Soul) We’ve spent time together in various places around the worldFlorida, Georgia, Washington State, London and Australiaand we share the same birthday. We used to call each other every April 16th to wish ourselves the most amazing year ever!

Caroline said she loved talking to me because I was so positive. But honestly, I didn’t feel positive. I felt angry, sad and frustrated. But at the same time, I was on my knees with humility because I’m so inspired by my dear friend.

In the throes of this deadly disease, my splendid friend was teaching me so much. In our conversation, she said that she has realized that her entire life she’s been more afraid of living than of dying . . . and that now . . . she’s finally living. She’s also realized that truly the only thing that matters is joy . . . and she said that she’s feeling more joy that she ever has in her life.

“Denise, what do you do when you’re told that you only have a few days to live?”

I answered that I wasn’t sure.

She said, “It makes every moment precious. When I go to the toilet, I know that there is only a limited number of times that I will be able to do that . . . and it makes it a ‘sacred toilet moment’. When I go to sleep, this makes it a ‘sacred sleeping moment’. Every bit of food, every conversation, and every moment . . . no matter how seemingly mundane, is precious. I’m cherishing it all. Really we should always be doing this.”

We talked about the power of the present moment (and not re-hashing past and not worrying about the future) It’s so truewhat’s important is just being present in this moment now. In truth, nothing else exists but this splendid glorious moment now.

Our conversation made me think of the Charles Schultz Philosophy. Here it is: (You don’t have to actually answer the questions. You’ll get the point by just reading them.)

1. Name the five wealthiest people in the world.

2. Name the last five Heisman trophy winners.

3. Name the last five winners of the Miss America Contest.

4. Name five people who have won the Nobel or Pulitzer Prize.

5. Name the last half dozen Academy Award winners for best actor & actress.

6. Name the last decade’s worth of World Series winners.

How did you do?

The point is, most of us don’t remember the headliners of yesterday. These are not second-rate achievers. They are the best in their fields. But achievements are forgotten. Accolades fade way.

Here’s another quiz. See how you do on this one:

1. List a few teachers or people who aided your journey through life.

2. Name three friends who have helped you through a difficult time.

3. Name five people who have taught you something worthwhile.

4. Think of a few people who have made you feel appreciated and special.

5. Think of five people you enjoy spending time with.

It’s much easier isn’t it? The moral is that the people who make a difference in your life are not the ones with the most credentials, the most money, or the most awards. They are the ones that you love and that love you.

There are so many people that I love, and I’m assuming that you wouldn’t be getting this newsletter, if you weren’t my “peep,” so I’m sending you immense love in this moment. I love you. Please remember to relish EVERY moment no matter what is occurring, it is all sacred and precious. (Thank you Caroline for helping me remember this!!!)

Love deeply. Love NOW!! You never know when your last breath, last rainbow, last chance to say “I love you” will be.

I love you . . . you have my love and support always and forever,

p.s. A follow-up: In a following phone call, Caroline told me that she wasn’t afraid of dying, but she preferred not to be told the day of her demise and wanted to live longer than Thursday. I love my friend and wanted to do what ever I could to support her, so I appealed to my wonderful community on Facebook for help. (If you are not my friend yet, there please join me. It would be splendid to have you!) We started a letter writing campaign and the miracle that I pleaded the heavens for occurred. Caroline has had her treatment extended. She has been told that she now has months to live, during which time she can examine her options. Life is good!!!! I’m high fiving the heavens.

I was deeply moved and touched by reading this in Denise’s newsletter. I  hope that her words can be of benefit to you too.

Bizarre “Sea Serpent” Captured on Video: in a world first, marine scientists working in the Gulf of Mexico filmed a Giant Oarfish in the wild written by Craig Weatherby, writer at Vital Choice Seafood

A team of researchers recently caught a rare, frightening, but oddly beautiful fish on video … for the first time (view it below). The Giant Oarfish captured on film was estimated to measure a jaw-dropping 16 to 32 feet in length.

The men in the photo at right are holding a dead Oarfish … one that may only be half the size of the one filmed in the Gulf, and just a third of the documented maximum. The biggest members of this bizarre species may be the biggest bony fish in the world. (Sharks have cartilage, not bone.)

It’s likely that some of the “sea serpent” sightings by sailors over the centuries stem from the size, dragon-like dorsal fin, bright red streamers, and sinuous, snake-like motions of the Giant Oarfish (Regalecus glesne).

Oarfish sightings and landings are infrequent, but happen regularly around the world … usually when one was dead or dying, at the surface or washed onshore.

How the “catch” happened

The video (above) was shot in the Gulf of Mexico by scientists from Louisiana State University and the UK’s National Oceanography Centre.

They were based on the world’s largest oil rig, called ThunderHorse, and using its remotely operated vehicle (ROV) when they saw the fish swimming – sometimes backwards – at a depth of more than 1,500 feet (457 meters).

Team leader Mark Benfield, Ph.D., offered this account:

“What was interesting about the fish was its swimming behavior. It moved by undulating its dorsal fin in waves that propelled it backwards at quite a good speed. The fish was really big … five to 10 meters [16 to 32 feet].”

How did we not know that the seas harbor a stunningly beautiful, scary-but-harmless “sea serpent”? Now that we do, we’re glad it exists!

Saving the ocean’s amazing creatures – many still undiscovered – is another good reason to keep greenhouse gasses, trash, and chemical pollution from killing the seas.

And saving the ocean and its food chain is essential to the health, welfare, and very survival of countless people.

What!? Are we now supposed to eat Giant Oarfish for good health???

No… [smiling] it’s just a fascinating news story I wanted to share. That’s something for our brains and hearts in another way.

The fish that are really good for are health (high in omega 3s) can be found at my favorite source for wild seafood, Vital Choice… and an essential oil enhanced supplement called Omega Blue (fact sheet) from Young Living Essential Oils.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Rose (Rosa damascena) has a beautiful, strong floral and sweet fragrance that is intoxicating and highly romantic and intoxicating and believed to be aphrodisiac. Rose essential oil helps bring balance and harmony with stimulating and uplifting properties that create a sense of well-being and self-confidence. Used for skin care for thousands of years, it is perfect for dry or aging skin.

The benefit of using a pure and true Rose essential oil is that it will provide aroma therapy benefits; whereas a lower quality or fragrance aromatherapy oil will provide nothing more than possibly a placebo affect. Therefore, it is always most advantageous to use the best available, I use and highly recommend Young Living Essential Oils.

Rose oil has the most diverse healing applications of any essential oil used in aromatherapy today. The oil is considered a supreme healer of both the body and soul. The energy of rose essential oil is said to have powerful effects on both the mind [olfactory] and heart [chakras], providing a state of overall well-being.

Each of the chakras has specific glands and organs it affects. It is believed that we can enhance the vitality of a chakra through exposing it to colors, sounds, minerals and essential oils.

The heart chakra is the center of compassion, love, group consciousness, and spiritually; associated with “oneness” with “all that is.”

A healthy heart chakra can allow us to experience love and compassion more fully, and provide a deep sense of peace and centeredness. Healing or stimulating the heart chakra can help to ease heart and chest conditions, such as; emotional issues (give and receive love), stress, anger and depression.

The alternative health applications of Rose essential oil are many. Exceptionally beneficial to the female reproductive organs as it is said to act as a tonic for the whole system. Rose essential oil can be diluted in V-6 massage oil and massaged into the pelvic region for this effect; it is said to be both a regulating and purifying to both the body and mind.

The ‘Precious’ Rose Oil: how to buy it without breaking the bank

It takes approximately 60,000 Rosa damascena roses to produce just 1 oz. of rose essential oil. Or,  5000 pounds of roses to make 1 pound of true Rose Oil. Given these figures, it is no surprise that rose oil is the most precious essential oil.

Young Living Rose essential oil is so potent that you can extend it by mixing your own carrier oil (such as V-6) with it; in a separate jar or bottle, combine 1-4 drops of Rose essential oil with 1 tablespoon carrier oil.

The wholesale price of a 5ml bottle of Rose Oil (which has approximately 84 drops of Rose essential oil), will cost about $2.16 per drop. Therefore, it is highly recommended to become a wholesale customer so that you can save 24% off retail prices on all of your purchases. This is done by selecting the “Distributor” membership type when you place your order, the distributor and wholesale member types are combined for ease, you never have to have a business or sell anything if you simply wish to remain a wholesale customer, learn more about being a wholesale customer.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Hair loss is caused by hormonal imbalances (such as increase in testosterone), or inflammatory conditions (as in the case of alopecia areata). Essential oils are excellent for cleansing, nourishing, and strengthening the hair follicle and shaft. Rosemary (cineol chemotype) encourages hair growth.

As men age, their DHEA and testosterone levels decline. Conversely, levels of dihydrotestosterone (DHT) increase, contributing to prostate enlarge – ment and hair loss. Because pregnenolone is the master hormone from which all hormones are created, men can directly benefit from trans dermal pregnenolone creams as a way of jump-starting sagging DHEA levels. Herbs such as saw palmetto and Pygeum africanum can prevent the conversion of testosterone into DHT, thereby reducing prostate enlargement and slowing hair loss.

Alopecia areata (Hair Loss)

Alopecia is an inflammatory hair-loss disease that is the second-leading cause of baldness in the U.S. A randomized, double-blind study at the Aberdeen Royal Infirmary in Scotland found that certain essential oils were extremely effective in combating this disease.1,2

Essential Oils for the Scalp and Hair Loss

Mister , Cedarwood, Rosemary, Lavender (see recipes below)

Choose ‘Natural’ Shampoo and Conditioner

Most shampoos (yes, including those sold in health food stores) contain chemicals that are unhealthy for the scalp and hair growth. What I like most about Young Living shampoo’s and conditioner’s is that they are entirely free of the chemicals you commonly find in all shampoo’s and conditioners.

Additionally, if build-up on your hair has been an issue I can tell you that I have always had the exact same problem, no matter how natural the shampoo or conditioner claimed to be. Each month I would have to switch brands so my hair wouldn’t be bogged down by the build-up of ingredients. That came to a screeching halt about ten years, when I began using Young Living shampoo’s and conditioner’s!

I have tried all three of the shampoo’s and conditioner’s (Lavender, Rosewood, or Lemon-Sage) and used each of them for extended periods of time and NOT once have I ever had a nasty build-up on my hair – and that’s years worth of using the same shampoo and conditioner.

The other nice thing is that they are so concentrated that I have to add a little water to them to get them out of the bottles.

I have long hair and I only go through ‘two’ bottles of Young Living conditioner a year!

A bottle of shampoo lasts me almost two months.

I save a fortune using this shampoo and conditioner, plus I’m not exposing myself to harmful chemicals! What also makes it even more cost efficient is that I am a wholesale member and save 24% off retail pricing – I highly recommend you consider doing the same. ~ Evelyn Vincent

Essential Oils Blend Recipes for Hair Loss

These recipes contain essential oils that are known for assisting in hair loss issues. These are done separately from normal shampooing and are best done at bedtime for best results.

Alopecia Areata Scalp Oils:

  • 4 drops Rosemary
  • 4 drops Thyme
  • 4 drops Lavender
  • 4 drops Cedarwood

Dilute above essential oils in 3-4 tablespoons V-6 (or olive, grapeseed or fractionated coconut oil) in a jar. Dip fingertips into mixture and massage gently into scalp before sleep nightly (do not ‘rub’ fingers hard across scalp as this can cause hair to break at the root level).

Hair Loss Prevention Blend #1:

  • 10 drops Cedarwood
  • 8 drops Rosemary
  • 10 drops Sandalwood
  • 10 drops Lavender

Hair Loss Prevention Blend #2:

  • 3 drops Rosemary
  • 5 drops Lavender
  • 4 drops Cypress
  • 2 drops Clary Sage
  • 2 drops Juniper

Add 10 drops of either of the above blends to 1 tsp. of fractionated coconut oil and massage into the scalp where it is balding; then rub gently into the remainder of the scalp. This works best when done at night. It may help to alternate the two above blends.

Additional Product Recommendations for Hair Loss

Prenolone Plus or ProGen (topical creams), True Source (multivitamins), Frankincense or EndoGize (essential oils).

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

Pain — ranging from constant, chronic, to periodic — plagues millions of people around the world, in the form of back pain, muscle pain, headache, arthritis, joint pain, and injuries. When such moments occur we’ve been conditioned to ease the pain, rather than explore what is the cause.

MSM, or Methylsulfonylmethane, the “miracle” supplement is a safe, natural, side-effect-free, nontoxic sulfur compound with potent therapeutic value. Whether it’s your lifestyle that is out of balance or caused an injury, or if you’re looking to enhance your natural lifestyle the research on MSM could be just what you’ve been seeking.

MSM: A New Solution for Arthritis, Allergies, and Pain

MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane) is a natural sulfur-bearing nutrient that occurs widely in nature (found in everything from mother’s breast milk to fresh vegetables). It is an exceptional source of nutritional sulfur–a mineral that is vital to protein synthesis and sound health.

Why is sulfur so important to the body?

Because sulfur is a mineral which, like vitamin C, is constantly being used up and depleted. When we fail to replenish our reserves of nutritional sulfur, we become more vulnerable to disease and degenerative conditions.

Some possible signs of sulfur deficiency are:

  • Poor nail and hair growth
  • Eczema
  • Dermatitis
  • Poor muscle tone
  • Acne / Pimples
  • Gout
  • Rheumatism
  • Arthritis
  • Weakening of nervous system
  • Constipation
  • Impairment of mental faculties
  • Lowered libido

MSM is more than just another essential nutrient

According to research compiled by Ronald Lawrence, Ph.D., M.D., and Stanley Jacob, M.D., MSM represents a safe, natural solution for chronic headaches, back pain, tendonitis, fibromyalgia, rheumatism, arthritis, athletic injuries, muscle spasms, asthma, and allergies.

In a book entitled, The Miracle of MSM, available through Essential Science Publishing, both Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Lawrence discuss how MSM has benefited hundred of patients. A UCLA neuro psychiatrist, Dr. Lawrence is convinced that MSM will revolutionize how millions of people deal with inflammatory autoimmune diseases like rheumatism, asthma, bursitis, and tendinitis, as well as auto immune diseases like arthritis, lupus, scleroderma, and allergies.

Other doctors have also seen their patients dramatically improve using 2 to 4 grams of MSM daily. According to David Blyweiss, M.D., of the Institute of Advanced Medicine in Lauderhill, Florida, many patients experience a 50 percent improvement in their arthritis symptoms, along with less fatigue, better sleep, and better ability to exercise. Dr. Lawrence has also used MSM to improve the condition of patients who were virtually crippled with arthritis and back pain. One patient was able to get out of bed for the first time after just two weeks on MSM. And after two months of MSM use, he could walk to the grocery store.

Another of Dr. Lawrence’s patients was a 70- year-old woman who was suffering from severe arthritis. In this case, MSM actually postponed the need for double knee replacement. In fact, after only two months on oral MSM, she was walking again with much less pain and stiffness.

Numerous other MSM users have experienced results equivalent to cortisone–but without side effects like immune suppression, fluid retention, and weakness.

According to Stanley Jacobs, M.D., there may be no pharmaceutical back pain therapy better–or safer–than MSM. “MSM has an important role to play in the nonsurgical treatment of back pain,” he said. “I have seen several hundred patients for back pain secondary to osteoarthritis, disc degeneration, spinal misalignment’s, or accidents. For such pain related conditions, MSM is usually beneficial.”

“I have been recommending MSM for more than six months,” said Richard Shaefer, a chiropractor from Wheeling, Illinois. “The results have been excellent. I consistently see major reduction in pain and inflammation in arthritic joints, along with improved range of motion. I can’t think of a single individual who isn’t getting some kind of positive effect.”

MSM may have other benefits aside from its pain and inflammation-reducing properties. Numerous patients have reported a surge in energy levels along with thicker hair, nails, and skin. Some have even reported a softening or disappearance of scar tissue.

One user reported a marked increase in stamina and energy after starting on MSM. “For a long while I have had the blahs,” complained Lou Salyer of Tucson, Arizona. “I had no stamina. I had to force myself to get things done around the house. After two days on MSM, it was like a blast of energy. I am amazed at how much I get done now.”

MSM may also do much more than relieve pain.

“Prior to taking MSM (30 grams a day for 20 years), I would have a cold or flu two or three times a year,” stated Dr. Jacobs. “Since I’ve been taking MSM, I’ve not had a single cold or the flu. I can’t say that MSM prevented my cold or the flu, but it is a fascinating observation.”

MSM contains an exceptionally bio-available source of sulfur, one of the most neglected minerals needed by the human body.

Carl Pfeiffer, M.D., Ph.D., a world-renowned expert on nutritional medicine, agrees, “Sulfur is the forgotten essential element.”

Found in such foods as garlic and asparagus, the sulfur within MSM is a critical part of the amino acids cysteine and methionine, which form the building blocks of the nails, hair, and skin. Sulfur is also found in therapeutic mineral baths and hot springs that have brought relief to arthritis sufferers for centuries.

MSM is very closely related to DMSO, a powerful pain reliever that was the subject of a 60 Minutes report in April, 1980. DMSO has been approved by the FDA for interstitial cystitis, a painful urinary tract condition.

MSM the Youth Nutrient

Of particular importance is MSM’s ability to equalize water pressure inside the cells–a considerable benefit for those plagued with bursitis, arthritis, and tendinitis. These kinds of inflammatory outbreaks are created when the water pressure inside the cells jumps past the pressure outside the cells, creating pressure and pain. MSM acts as a sort of cellular safety valve, affecting the protein envelope of the cell so that water transfers freely in and out of the cell. The result: rapid relief and less damage to tissues.

Because MSM elasticizes the hold between the cells, MSM can restore flexibility to inflamed tissues. When our bodies grow older and are chronically shortchanged of key minerals like sulfur and MSM, the bonds between our cells become increasingly rigid and brittle–a condition that can lead to a loss in skin flexibility and contribute to skin wrinkles. The internal manifestations of this cellular brittleness are far less visible but have a far greater negative impact on the body. MSM’s ability to reintroduce flexibility into cell structures, therefore, can have widespread restorative affects.

The Liver is the body’s largest internal organ and major detoxifier for the body. Even the toxins in the air we breathe are filtered by the liver, including chemicals from aerosol cleaners, paint, bug sprays, personal care products, household cleaning products, air fresheners, etc.

Juva Cleanse® provides support for the liver through a carefully formulated blend of therapeutic-grade essential oils that supports normal liver function.*

Clinical Studies Using Helichrysum, Ledum, Celery Seed Essential Oils (Juva Cleanse®)

Clinical studies show that an essential oil blend of helichrysum, ledum, and celery seed (Juva Cleanse®) dramatically amplified the elimination from the body of heavy metals, especially mercury, one of the most toxic of all non-radioactive metals. Mercury is particularly damaging to the brain and nervous system because it can pass through blood-brain barrier and accumulate indefinitely in motor neurons.

A 2003 clinical study involving a group of four patients tested the effect of three essential oils on the urinary output of mercury. Four healthy individuals (ages 27 to 69) took two capsules per day (approximately 1,500 mg) of a blend of helichrysum, ledum, and celery seed (the Juva Cleanse® essential oil blend). The first urine collection occurred prior to essential oil therapy, with the second and third urine collections occurring two and four days after essential oil therapy had begun. The results showed that all four participants more than doubled their urinary elimination of mercury over the four days of evaluation.

How to Use Juva Cleanse® Essential Oil Blend

  • Apply topically over liver or on foot Vita Flex points for the liver and kidneys.
  • Use with the Raindrop Technique.

Juva Cleanse® as a Dietary Supplement

  • Dilute 50:50 (with organic olive oil) and put in a size 0 capsule. Take twice daily.
  • Or, dilute one drop in 4 fl. oz. of liquid such as goat’s or rice milk.

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

This insight on Olympic athlete’s and the law of attraction is from my friend Jeannette Maw…

Who else watched last night as the Russians ended a 12 time winning streak in Olympic pairs figure skating?

In fact, I can hardly take my eyes off any Olympic coverage – it’s so exciting!

One of our Good Vibe U forum members posted about how unhelpful it is when announcers focus on the athletes’ limitations and weak points as they’re performing.  (“Now this is where she’s struggled all season, let’s see if she can pull it off now.”)  Not a great focus for supporting success, huh?

Then yesterday afternoon seeing the cross country skiers collapse in exhaustion after crossing the finish line, it was easy to admire the all out effort they gave in an attempt to be recognized as the best at what they do.

It made me wonder about my recent post about how if it feels like work, it doesn’t work.  Watching those skiers at the extreme of their physical endurance practically put me in the mood to go stretch myself at something!

As I was contemplating the “feel good” of “working hard,” I dialed into the pairs figure skating event and watched Kavaguti and Smirnov blow their chances at a gold medal.

The announcer’s commentary about the Russian skaters was insightful from a law of attraction perspective.

Before they performed, there were plenty of reasons to expect this couple to do well, including the fact that the Russian dynasty for Olympic gold in this event had been in place since 1964 and that this very couple had an upset win at the European Figure Skating Championships last month.

After they faltered in a performance that cost them the medal, one of the announcers astutely observed:

“There is such a fine line between wanting it and wanting it too much.  And squeezing too hard and trying to force it to happen.  If they had just trusted what they’d been doing all week.”

The second announcer joined in to suggest that the couple had “practiced too hard” and didn’t have enough gas to get through it when it counted, despite the fact that they were looking really good prior to competing.

My takeaway from this is that there’s nothing wrong with sweating and pushing to our extreme – when it feels good.  But paying attention to where our fine line is – which is an individual phenomenon – to know when we cross into territory of resistance and worry and clinging .. that’s gotta be our sign to back off and find our way back to good.

I’m sure we’ll see more examples of the art of releasing resistance and creating vibrational alignment as the games continue!
