The following article by David Stewart, PhD is right on target with what I know and feel on a problem that plagues us today, MRSA. When I read, or write articles on illness, I feel even more grateful that I know about therapeutic-grade essential oils, such as Young Living Essential Oils, and how to use them; using them by the way is easy and extremely cost efficient when you consider the thousands, or hundreds of thousands of dollars spent on healthcare each and every year. The Essential Oils Desk Reference is the book most frequently used and recommended. Thus, I am delighted to spend so little on ‘preventing’ illnesses such as MRSA; yikes, just one look at the pictures below is enough to make me be super-mindful. What’s that saying, “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of a cure” – only thing is, there is no cure for MRSA and there isn’t likely to be one coming from allopathic medicine. Therefore, I feel… “my 15ml bottle of R.C. or Lemongrass could mean the difference between a life with MRSA, or not.” And, you better believe I used my oils when I was in the emergency room!

Here is the link to an article I wrote last September on the study David Stewart is referring to in his article Essential Oils and MRSA a Study, I also discuss in that article what I did last spring when I went into the emergency room – I’m not going to take any chances!

Note to those who don’t know: all essential oils are NOT created equally, most are adulterated or extremely low quality. Do not expect to get the same results with brands that are not Young Living Therapeutic-grade.

Are Essential Oils a Cure for Monster Bacteria like MRSA?

by David Stewart, PhD

MRSA (pronounced “murr – sa”) is an acronym for “Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus.” While Staphylococcus aureus is a common and relatively harmless inhabitant in the nasal passages of 25-30% of people, the MRSA form of staphylococcus is not so benign and once entrenched it does not go away. MRSA is a monster bacteria created by the medical use of man-made antibiotics and antibacterial agents employed principally in hospitals. It was first detected in the 1960s, only a few years after a new semi-synthetic form of penicillin (Methicillin) was introduced.

Hospitals are where this germ originated and is still where it is principally found. However, since 1982 MRSA has been found outside of hospitals, first detected among drug users in Detroit. Since then it has worked its way into other parts of the community, including playgrounds and gymnasiums. Thus, we not only have HA-MRSA or “Hospital Acquired MRSA” but also CA-MRSA or “Community Acquired MRSA.”

The portion of staphylococcal infections in the U.S. due to MRSA has risen steadily at an ever-increasing rate from 2% in 1974 to 63% in 2004. Once MRSA has been acquired, it is usually remains with the infected individual for life and can be fatal. Medical science has no effective treatment for MRSA infections.

A Relative Contracts MRSA

As a case in point, I have a relative, a retired career military man, who accompanied his wife to a hospital for some routine tests for her (not him). He had a small open scratch on his leg. During his visit, he acquired HA-MRSA through that small scratch. His leg swelled up and became inflamed. To date, no treatment has worked in stopping the spread of the bacteria in his body. It has now infected his entire leg and has worked up into his groin. He has been hospitalized more than once for treatments, all of which have been ineffective. It has been five years since his fateful visit to the hospital with his wife and he still carries the infection, which is slowly spreading.

I mentioned the possibility of essential oils to him, but he is a relative of mine and, as many of you have experienced, we have no credibility with our relatives. (Mark 6:4) He is also a devout believer in allopathic medicine. Having a Cadillac insurance program from being a veteran, he is content to keep receiving free medical treatment, even though it is not working. Unless he eventually resorts to a non-allopathic solution, he will most likely suffer from this infection for the rest of his life and, perhaps, even succumb to it.

Will Medical Science Find a Solution to MRSA?

Since the pharmaceutical approach to resistant strains of bacteria is to develop stronger and stronger antibiotics, there a pharmaceutical solution is not likely to ever be found because any antibiotic stronger than Methicillin would be more likely to kill the patient than the bacteria. Vancomycin is another antibiotic nearly equal in potency to Methicillin, but it, like Methicillin, can also be lethal to the patient and has not been found effective against MRSA.

Since it was the plethora of man-made antibiotics and antibacterial agents employed since the 1950′s that were the creators of MRSA and other resistant strains of bacteria in the first place, it is not likely that any medicine synthesized in a laboratory will ever be a solution. In fact, additional more powerful man-made drugs would most likely result in giving birth to even more virulent microorganisms. MRSA is a Frankenstein of the Medical System’s own creation. The solution to MRSA must come from outside the medical paradigm.

Are Essential Oils Effective Against MRSA?

Since Modern Medicine has no cure for MRSA and is, in fact, the cause of MRSA, the most likely means to combat MRSA is essential oils, which are among the most versatile and effective antimicrobial agents known. Not only do essential oils have powerful antibacterial properties without side effects, they are also incapable of producing resistant strains of bacteria as synthetic pharmaceuticals do.

There are two reasons essential oils do not and cannot create resistant strains of bacteria:

(1) Essential oils are extremely complex, comprised of hundreds of compounds, while laboratory-produced medicines are simple, usually consisting of only one or two active ingredients. Thus, bacteria have less difficulty in breaking the codes of a man-made medicine than in attempting to form a resistance to a natural medicine like an essential oil.

(2) Furthermore, essential oils are never twice the same while every batch of a pharmaceutical drug is always the same, reproduced with laboratory exactness. Hence, with repeated exposure to the same identical drug, bacteria eventually figure out its toxic properties and develop resistance. However, since essential oils are never identical from year to year, even if bacteria did figure out an oil’s effective components in a given year, they would have to start all over with the next crop.

The reason essential oils are not exactly duplicatable is because they are products of the vagaries of nature. The essential oils of a plant vary to adjust to their environment, just as human blood adjusts from morning to evening, from season to season, and from climate to climate. A plant’s oils are actually different from morning to night each day and from week to week throughout the growing season. Furthermore, the growing environment for a plant is never the same year to year. Some years are warmer than others, some cooler, some with more rain, some less, and if you compare the same species grown in different latitudes, altitudes, climates, and soils, you get even greater variations.

A basil plant will always produce a basil oil with the same suite of compounds, but from year to year and place to place, the relative proportions of the hundreds of compounds comprising basil oil will be different. Essential oils are like fine wines. Since no two years are the same, neither are two year’s wines the same even from the same vineyard. That is why vintners put dates on their bottles, since each year’s wine will a little different in taste, color, and fragrance.

Therefore bacteria will never figure out nor become resistant to an essential oil because they are too complex and because they are always changing. Man-made medicines are temporary, but God’s medicines are forever. Hospitals used to use the Oil of Onycha (Styrax benzoin) [Onycha is found in the "Tweleve Oils of the Ancient Scripture" collection, it is not sold individually] dissolved in alcohol (called Tincture of Benzoin) as their most effective antiseptic and antibacterial agent to cleanse and sanitize their wards.

If hospitals and medical doctors would have continued to use natural agents like Onycha, we would not have resistant strains of bacteria, such as MRSA, to threaten us today.

The Versatility of R.C. [essential oil]

R.C. Essential Oil Blend has been applied successfully for pneumonia, for dissolving calcium deposits in joints, and to stop snoring, although its primary purpose was to relieve “Respiratory Congestion.” That is what the initials, “R.C.,” stand for. RC has been effective with many forms of congestion including colds, bronchitis, sore throats, sinusitis, coughs, lung infections, and respiratory allergy symptoms.

However, in a series of laboratory tests at the Young Living Laboratory and Weber State University in Utah (See citation below, see my article on the study here), of 91 single essential oils and 64 essential oil blends, while Lemongrass was found to be the most effective single oil, R.C. was found to be the most effective blend.

Seventy-eight of the 91 single oils tested showed measurable inhibitory activity against MRSA. The top ranking oils, in descending order of effectiveness, were Lemongrass (Cymbopogen flexuosus) [article on lemongrass], Lemon Myrtle (Backhousia citriodora), Mountain Savory (Satureja montana), Cinnamon Bark (Cinnamomum verum), and Melissa (Melissa officinalis). The most effective single oil, Lemongrass, completely inhibited all MRSA growth on the test plate.

Since Tincture of Benzoin (containing Oil of Onycha) used to be the principal antibacterial cleansing agent used in hospitals, as mentioned above, it would be interesting to see how Onycha measures up in killing the MRSA bacteria. Unfortunately, this study of 91 single oils did not include Onycha.

Fifty-two of the 64 blends tested showed measurable inhibitory activity against MRSA. The top three ranking oils, in descending order of effectiveness, were R.C., Motivation, and Longevity. The most effective blend, R.C., also completely inhibited all MRSA growth on the test plate.

R.C. is a blend of 10 species, including three species of Eucalyptus, as follows: E. globulus, E. radiata, E. citriodora [article on the types of Eucalyptus], Myrtle (Myrtus communis, not Lemon myrtle), Pine, Spruce, Marjoram, Lavender [tips and testimonials], Cypress, and Peppermint. The Power of R.C. in combating MRSA is far beyond any of its individual constituents. In fact, two of the constituent oils (E. globulus and Myrtle) both scored zero in their ability to inhibit MRSA growth. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of R.C. as a blend was almost triples the effectiveness of the most powerful ingredient, which was Peppermint oil. This finding dramatically illustrates the power of oil blends over many oil singles. An oil blend usually has capabilities not manifested by any of its components, which is why blends are preferred by most aromatherapists for healing applications.

The same was true of Motivation, the second most effective blend. Motivation contains only four single oils: Roman Chamomile, Spruce, Ylang Ylang, and Lavender. Ylang Ylang, alone, had no inhibitory effect on MRSA whatsoever while the other three ingredients all scored less than half as effective as the combination of all four. Thus, the power of Motivation against MRSA was found to be greater than that of any of the individual species comprising the blend.

It is also interesting to note that the three most effective blends (R.C., Motivation, and Longevity) contained none of the five most effective single oils (Lemongrass, Lemon Myrtle, Mountain Savory, Cinnamon Bark [Cinnamon bark: does yours bark and benefit?], Melissa).

Can the Whole be Deduced from its Parts?

The conclusion is that one cannot deduce the properties of an oil blend from a knowledge of its components. Additional properties will always manifest in a blend that are not demonstrated by any of the singles that comprise it, while many properties of the singles do not manifest in the blend. This is why effective blends must be formulated intuitively and not by logic. All of Young Living blends were formulated by Gary Young, all by intuition, some even by way of intuitive dreams.

The same principle is true of single oils in that one cannot deduce the properties of an essential oil by knowing the properties of its individual compounds as isolates. Attempting to do so would be like trying to deduce the taste and texture of a chocolate cake from the taste and textures of the individual ingredients, viz. white flour, shortening, sugar, salt, eggs, baking powder, bitter cocoa, and vanilla extract. This is why scientific studies on the properties of isolated single compounds of an oil do not reveal the nature of the oil and why knowledge of a single oil does not reveal the nature of a blend containing that oil.

This principle is true even to the extent that a compound that is highly toxic alone can be safe, non-toxic, and therapeutic when occurring as an ingredient in an essential oil. Many aromatherapists who fear certain oils have been trained in a school that teaches the fallacy that properties of isolated compounds studied in laboratories apply to the natural oils in which they are found. Thus, many aromatherapists avoid perfectly safe and therapeutically effective oils because a laboratory has found one or more compounds in the oil that, by themselves, are harmful.

It is this fallacy upon which many aromatherapy books post lists of “forbidden oils, never to be used in aromatherapy for any purpose.” These taboo lists include perfectly good oils like cinnamon, clove, basil, oregano, mountain savory, birch, wintergreen, cassia, tansy, pine, and even benign oils like vanilla. Of course, adulterated oils improperly distilled and grown with chemicals and insecticides can possess toxic properties. However, if one uses only Young Living oils, which are pure, unadulterated, properly grown, and properly distilled, one need not worry about toxicity.

It is interesting to note that Thieves Blend, which is a favorite antimicrobial blend that has been shown to be effective against a variety of bacteria, viruses, parasites, and fungi, is not particularly effective against MRSA. In fact, it is less than half as effective as R.C. This is surprising since Thieves contains Cinnamon Bark oil, which is one of the top three effective singles against MRSA. Yet Thieves, as a blend, was only about half as effective as Cinnamon Bark oil alone.

Practical Implications

The data cited here were all done in vitro in a laboratory on cultures of MRSA on test plates. While most of the oils tested are considered by the FDA as “GRAS” (Generally Regarded as Safe) for oral ingestion, no essential oil has been approved by the FDA for human use to treat a disease. The data definitely show promise for the possible treatment or prevention of MRSA infections, more promise than anything medical science has been able to find thus far. Furthermore, applying Lemongrass or R.C. has no negative side effects like antibiotics and no toxicities to humans like synthetic antibacterial agents.

So how can you make practical use of the research cited above? For one thing, if you are going to visit a hospital or spend time in a hospital, cover the soles of your feet with R.C. or Lemongrass. Rub one or both of these oil on your hands as an “antimicrobial oil glove” so that when you touch doorknobs, hospital furniture, elevator buttons, or public telephones, there will be a thin oil barrier between you and any possible MRSA contamination. MRSA is primarily spread by contact and not as an airborne pathogen. You might exercise the same precautions as in a hospital visit when visiting a public gymnasium where you are sharing workout equipment with strangers. Then when you go home, diffuse R.C. or Lemongrass, scrub your hands, and face with soap to minimize any exposure you may have had with invisible MRSA microbes.

Better to avoid going into a hospital altogether, if possible. Hospital personnel and pastors who regularly visit hospitals are at particular risk, not only to themselves, but also to their families since they can potentially carry MRSA into their homes.

If you do acquire a MRSA infection, realize that the medical profession can do little, if anything, to help you. However, you can safely apply R.C. or Lemongrass locally at the site of the infection and in any other way deemed advisable, even internally. Additional research is going to be required to determine the extent to which essential oils can prevent and/or cure MRSA infections in humans. At this time, Lemongrass and R.C. have demonstrated the greatest promise of all possibilities in combating the spread of MRSA and of bringing relief to those who have already contracted it.

Personally, if I were to be diagnosed with a MRSA infection circulating in my body, I would head for Gary Young’s clinic in Ecuador where essential oils can be administered intravenously. This is the only place in the world where essential oils are administered directly into the blood stream. I would request an I.V. containing a suspension of R.C. and/or Lemongrass oil. The clinic routinely administers oils such as Frankincense, Helichrysum, and Thieves intravenously, but to my knowledge an R.C.I.V. has never been administered to date. But if my system was found infected with MRSA, I would be willing to be the first to receive one.

Thanks to the Researchers

The scientific data cited in this article are published in an article entitled, Inhibition of Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus (MRSA) by Essential Oils in the Flavour and Fragrance Journal, 23:444-449, (2008). This journal is published by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

The research was carried out, compiled, and reported by Sue Chao, Gary Young, Craig Oberg, and Karen Nakaoka as a collaborative project between the Young Living Laboratory, Lehi, Utah, and Weber State University, Ogden, Utah. The publication of this research is the first step toward FDA approval of essential oils in MRSA prevention or therapy.

This type of research is highly hazardous to those who engage in it since you are working closely with a potentially deadly microbe or one that can infect you for life. Great precautions must be taken to minimize any possibility of infection among the researchers and laboratory staff. I want to personally thank the individuals named above who took a risk on behalf of humanity to provide us with this valuable information.

The essential oil therapy to use for earaches is with the essential oil blend of Thieves and this is what I do;

  1. Put 2-4 drops of Thieves in the palm of your hand or in a glass bowl or cup, with approximately 1/2 of a teaspoon of V-6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex.
  2. Stir the mixture clockwise 3 times, to get the energy flowing.
  3. Dip your finger in the oil mixture and apply around both ears,  on the front and back of your ear and just a bit on the opening of each ear.
  4. Next take a Q-tip, dip it into the mixture and gently rub the inner part of your ears.
  5. Put some of the oil mixture on cotton balls and insert into your ears.
  6. Lastly, and how I always end any time I am using essential oils, with some of the Thieves blend in the palm of my hands, cup your hands over your nose, (being sure to not touch my face), and take 3 nice long breaths.   You get the pleasure of the beautiful scent and the benefits of aromatherapy.

This has done the job for me and has immediately stopped the pain and started me on my way to healing.  You can also put a warm compress to your ears as the warmth feels good and helps the healing process move along even quicker.

Omega-3s Slow Aging by Keeping DNA “Caps” Intact

by Craig Weatherby

Key sign of aging found lowest in heart patients with highest blood levels of omega-3s; results may help explain omega-3s’ documented cardiac benefits

Nutrition-oriented anti-aging pioneers like Nicholas Perricone, M.D., have long advocated fish-derived omega-3s for their damping effect on chronic, “silent” inflammation … a key accelerator of human aging.

But the results of a new study suggest that may also act to protect our DNA from decay … a fundamental level in the fight against premature aging.

Today’s story was foreshadowed late last summer, when researchers linked tea and multivitamins to slower aging in our cells.

In both cases, the scientists looked at the length of DNA sequences at the end of chromosomes ─ called “telomeres”─ that shorten as cells replicate and age.

Key Points

  • Landmark study associates higher omega-3 levels among heart patients with a lower rate of decay in their chromosomes’ protective caps (telomeres).
  • This cellular anti-aging effect is attributed to omega-3s’ documented antioxidant effects, or to their ability to stimulate production of an enzyme that repairs telomeres.

Those studies showed that two daily routines – drinking tea or taking a multivitamin pill – were associated with having longer telomeres, compared with people who had neither habit.

Now, researchers have shown that omega-3s may also protect telomeres … at least in heart patients.

Findings add fish-borne omega-3s to list of telomere protectors

Researchers based at the University of California conducted a study designed to determine whether omega-3 blood levels were associated with changes in telomere length among heart patients with coronary artery disease (Farzaneh-Far R et al. 2010).

Specifically, they compared the lengths of telomeres in the participants’ leukocytes – a type of blood cell – at the beginning and end of a five-year period.

A team led by Ramin Farzaneh-Far, M.D., recruited 608 heart patients between September 2000 and December 2002, and measured the length of their leukocyte telomeres at the beginning of the study and again after five years of follow-up.

Telomere decay provides a telling sign of premature aging

Like the ends of shoelaces, without which the lace would unravel, telomeres ensure that a cell’s chromosomes do not fuse with each other or rearrange during cell replication, which can lead to cancer.

With each replication the telomeres shorten, and when the telomeres are gone, the cells are programmed to commit a form of cellular “suicide” called apoptosis.

Telomeres are highly vulnerable to oxidative stress from free radicals generated by normal metabolism, inflammation, and ingestion of polluted air and water.

This is one likely reason why food-borne antioxidants – which help the body neutralize free radicals – appear to help maintain health.

After comparing the starting lengths of the cardiac outpatients’ telomeres with their length after five years, the researchers found that people with the lowest omega-3 levels experienced the speediest rate of telomere shortening.

In contrast, those with the highest omega-3 levels showed the slowest rate of telomere shortening.

As the authors wrote, “… there was an inverse relationship between baseline blood levels of marine omega-3 fatty acids and the rate of telomere shortening over 5 years. These findings raise the possibility that omega-3 fatty acids may protect against cellular aging in patients with coronary heart disease.” (Farzaneh-Far R et al. 2010)

And they calculated the precise relationship between the heart patients’ omega-3 levels and the rate of their telomere shortening: “Each 1-SD increase in DHA+EPA levels was associated with a 32 percent reduction in the odds of telomere shortening.” (Farzaneh-Far R et al. 2010)

Results may help explain omega-3s’ proven heart benefits

The findings offer one plausible biological explanation for why fish oil helps heart patients.

The authors speculated that omega-3s may counteract oxidative stress, or increase the production of telomerase … an enzyme that lengthens and repairs shortened telomeres.

If you find it surprising that they’d suggest an antioxidant role for omega-3s, you’ve been listening to the wrong people.

Many observers make erroneous assumptions about the susceptibility of dietary omega-3s to oxidation in the body.

While omega-3s oxidize rapidly when exposed to air, several recent studies have shown that they act as antioxidants inside our vascular system … thereby reducing inflammation and, in turn, the risk of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. (Higdon JV et al. 2000; Wander RC et al. 2000; Richard D et al. 2008)

The researchers only studied the effects of fish oil on cellular aging in heart patients, so it is not clear if the association would hold true in healthy people.

But as Dr. Farzaneh-Far told Reuters, “There is no reason to think that it wouldn’t.”

He expressed the essence of his team’s finding this way:
“Telomere length is an emerging marker for determining biological age …We are excited to identify omega-3 fatty acids as a potentially protective factor that may slow down telomere shortening.” (UCSF 2010)

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

There’s so much interesting research going on with Omega 3s (fish oil). Below is an article from one of my most favorite places to buy wild seafood, wild blueberries, and dried fruit (I had their dried tart cherries in my yogurt tonight for dessert – yummy!)

I’m always interested in reading their Omega 3 articles because I love their seafood and I love Young Living’s Omega Blue (fact sheet) (a fish oil supplement with essential oils that act as the preservative so the supplement doesn’t go rancid). I like knowing how my body benefits from my consumption of Omega 3s and when I’m eating my delicious fish and then to read this article on how they’re using fish oil in the IV is amazing. Enjoy this excellent article from Craig Weatherby at Vital Choice Seafood.

Fish Oil Found to Help Critical ICU Patients

by Craig Weatherby

Clinical trial’s results fit the known properties of omega-3s, and affirm prior research on omega-3s in post-surgical patients and premature babies

British and Portuguese researchers report the encouraging results of a clinical trial in which they tested intravenous (IV) fish oil in patients suffering from sepsis.

Sepsis is a very serious illness in which the immune system goes into overdrive, potentially causing crippling or fatal damage to patients’ organs.

The results suggest that by adding fish oil to IV feeding formulas, hospitals can alleviate symptoms of sepsis among their intensive care unit (ICU) patients, and shorten their stays.

Research performed at several European universities has indicated that omega-3s can help patients undergoing major surgery (see “Surgical benefits seen”, below).

Key Points

  • Clinical trial finds that IV omega-3s benefit ICU patients with life-threatening sepsis.
  • Results fit with known properties of omega-3s, and with prior research on omega-3s given to post-surgical patients and premature babies.
  • Standard IV formulas are made from plant oils high in omega-6 fats, and are proven to promote inflammation and long-term liver damage.
  • And U.S. studies show that omega-3s can protect the livers of premature babies getting intravenous (IV) nutrition … see “‘Preemies’ have been saved”, below.

The new UK-Portuguese findings add ICU care to the list of potential uses for omega-3-enhanced medical nutrition.

Critically ill patients with sepsis benefited from IV omega-3s

Researchers from the University of Southampton worked with a hospital in Portugal to conduct a randomized, controlled trial in 23 ICU patients with sepsis (Barbosa VM et al. 2010).

The study was led by Philip Calder, Ph.D., a professor of nutritional immunology at Britain’s University of Southampton, and a prominent researcher into omega-3s and inflammation.

The patients were randomly assigned to receive one of two intravenous nutrition formulas for five days following their admission to the ICU:

  • A standard, 50:50 misture of medium-chain fatty acids and soybean oil.
  • An experimental mixture providing medium-chain fatty acids (50 percent), soybean oil (40 percent) and fish oil (10 percent).

The British-Portuguese team found that the group receiving the test formula containing 10 percent fish oil had better gas exchange in the lungs, compared with the group receiving standard IV formula.

(In other words, the fish oil group enjoyed enhanced transfer of oxygen from inhaled air into the blood, and enhanced transfer of carbon dioxide from the blood into exhaled air.)

Intravenous fish oil also reduced production of the inflammatory chemicals produced by the immune system during sepsis, excess amounts of which can lead to blood clots and organ failure.

And, the patients given fish oil left the hospital earlier than those who received traditional nutrition.

As Calder said in a press release, “The results of this study are very encouraging, because they suggest a way that the condition of these very sick patients can be improved.” (UOS 2010)

He went on to explain why standard, vegetable-oil-based IV formulas can be unhealthful:
“Traditional solutions use soybean oil, which does not contain the omega-3 fatty acids contained in fish oil that act to reduce inflammatory responses. In fact, soybean oil is rich in omega-6 acids that may actually promote inflammation in an excessive or unbalanced supply.” (UOS 2010)

The problem with omega-6-rich IV formulas

Soybean oil and other vegetable oils are high in an omega-6 fatty acid (linoleic acid), which the body uses to make the pro-inflammatory members of a family of immune-system chemicals called prostaglandins.

In contrast, the long-chain omega-3s (EPA and DHA) found in our cell membranes and in fish fat – but not in plant foods – are precursors for anti-inflammatory prostaglandins. (This precursor role is specific to EPA, but the body can easily make EPA from DHA as needed.)

Recently developed experimental IV formulas such as Germany’s OmegavenTM substitute some of the soybean oil with fish oils, which are naturally high in long-chain omega-3s (EPA and DHA).

Prior research shows that omega-3-enriched IV formulas reduce oxidative stress and protect patients’ liver function while moderating inflammation and immune responses.

And researchers at several European universities have found that omega-3s benefit patients undergoing major surgery.

As a German team wrote three years ago:
“… post-operative parenteral [intravenous] administration of omega-3-enriched lipid emulsions could have … [a beneficial] … impact on the inflammatory response after abdominal surgery and could be used in standard post-operative care …” (Senkal M et al 2007)

Thieves Household Cleaner®  Testimonials:

Thieves Household Cleaner®  and Tile Grout Stain

“Something spilled on the bathroom floor which is white tile with white grout. I used Thieves cleaner and the grout in the area I scrubbed was so white I had to do the entire floor to match it up with the cleaned part. The sponge mop and Thieves got the grout a little whiter but it took a little effort with a brush to make it like new. The tile and grout are 20 years old. After using ‘store bought cleaners’ for years, one use with Thieves and the floor is like new. The best part is it’s non-toxic and costs less!” ~ Barbara K.

Thieves Household Cleaner®  as an Eyeglass Cleaner

“We have found that Thieves Household Cleaner® makes a wonderful eye glass cleaner. Just one capful to two cups of water in a spray bottle and then a couple of sprits to each lens does the trick.” ~ Carol

Thieves Household Cleaner®  for Cleaning Granite and Marble

“Thieves cleaner works wonderfully on granite or marble. My family has a cleaning service and uses it on all kinds of surfaces. It is usually mixed 2 Tblsp to 16oz of water in a spray bottle.Spray and wipe with a damp cloth and buff shiny surfaces dry with a dry towel. The trick is not to use too much concentrate in the mixture so it doesn’t leave shiny things looking oily.” ~ Jennifer

Thieves Household Cleaner®  in Steam Cleaner

“I just used the new Thieves Cleaner in my steam cleaner…about a teaspoon in the soap dispenser…then filled it with water, and my house LOOKS and SMELLS GREAT! It worked GREAT on my carpet, better, in fact than the chemical soap that came with the steam cleaner, and now I have the added benefit of THIEVES in my carpet!” ~ Jessica W.

Thieves Household Cleaner®  for Greasy Kitchen and Household Chores

“We’ve been waiting for a product like this from Young Living! Our first experience using this new household cleaner was to see if it would cut through grease on kitchen mini blinds. We were impressed! We’ve now used it in the dishwasher, on walls, countertops, toilet bowls, mirrors, windows, shower doors, and more! When our son came home last night he said, “Mom, you’re still cleaning?” Cleaning has never been so fun and just think of the health benefits of inhaling Thieves while working. It just doesn’t get any better!” ~ Linda & Merrill D.

Thieves Household Cleaner®  to Clean Carpet

“I have a beautiful home, but shortly after we moved into our home, the refrigerator stopped working. We had a repairman out to look at it, but it did not do any good. We had to replace the one in the house with another. The old fridge had to come out, but the only way to get it out was across our living room carpet! The old one was taken out and a newer one put in, then we noticed that the old fridge had left a ugly trail across our carpet! I tried everything to get it out to no avail. The stains seemed to be getting worse. This last weekend I deciding to try the Thieves cleaner with water in a sprayer bottle, I got down on the floor and sprayed a small spot and then used a small scrub brush and a clean towel to wipe it up with, WOW! The towel was black and the carpet looks great! I cleaned all the spots then let them dry and then vacuumed. I will need to go over it, but I love it, and the smell is wonderful, too! ” ~ Darlene B.

Thieves Household Cleaner®  as a Laundry Detergent and for Cleaning Carpet

“I was introduced to Young Living by my mom and I have been using a lot of their products for a while now. Anyhow I bought a bottle and when it came in I was surprised to see how small it was, so I called and asked her how was this going to save me money, (grin) and then she told me how strong it was and to use only a capful for certain things and straight for stubborn, well after experimenting this is what I came up with:

Laundry 1-2 capfuls (depending on how dirty), dishwasher- 1 1/2 capfuls, 1- capful for a 1 qt sprayer is great for fingerprints on walls and stuff, now when I do my laundry I still put in laundry soap only now I only use a 1/4 of what I did before, I measured 1/2 inch in the cup provided by them and used about the same in softener, yes I am still use (some bad things, but not as much now) oh and the suds aren’t a lot in the washer but the close are clean, I also used it straight to remove (big truck) axle grease from my rugs, I use it for just about everything. And I know my house is clean.” ~ Lynn S.

Thieves Household Cleaner®  for Car Wind Screen and Artificial House Plant Cleaning

“I have always had a problem with my wind screen on the car being dirty and residue always on it. Decided one day to add some Thieves Household Cleaner into the water reservoir and all problems resolved. Cleans windscreen amazingly!!

I also have this thing with cleaning plants (indoors) as it is such a tedious job, but now just make a spray with the Thieves in it and spray the plants and they come up amazingly. Simple, quick and no mess with the plants looking great and shiny also!! Need to see what this does for the insects and the mosquitoes in the house as well. Will be interesting!!

Yes, Thieves also keeps the mosquitoes away as well and have also found another solution for insects, spiders, etc!” ~ Gavin H.

Thieves Household Cleaner®  and Black Mold in Bathroom

“Because of the unusual wet fall, winter, and spring we have had and the leaking shower head in our bathroom, we got a lot of black mold in our shower. All of the cocking was totally black. Any cracks in the tile grout were black. The fiberglass bottom of the shower had black growth also.

A friend of mine just bought an older home. She told me how she totally cleaned the moldy shower in the house she just bought. She removed the caulking with black mold on it. She scrubbed the entire shower, then sprayed chlorine bleach all over the shower, She sprayed an extra amount where the old caulking was to make sure the mold was completely gone. She let it dry a day, then re-caulked it with new silicone caulking. She was so excited that her shower looked new again.

When she came to help me do the same with my shower, She said the only thing that will completely get rid of the black mold is chlorine bleach. She knew I didn’t want to use anything that would harm my body by breathing it in or leaving a residue in the shower.

We first removed all the caulking with a flat head screwdriver, then we tackled the cleaning job. I made up a strong solution of Thieves Cleaner. I used 3 tablespoons of Thieves Cleaner per one 32 ounce sprayer bottle of filtered water. We cleaned the entire shower with the cleaner. She was amazed that the cleaner cleaned so well. Were able to get stubborn soap scum off the tiles by spraying it with Thieves Cleaner, then scrubbing it with a #220 waterproof sandpaper. In the hard to get crack areas we used a stiff scrub brush and an old toothbrush.

After we totally cleaned the shower and washed it down, we sprayed all the areas to be caulked with Thieves Cleaner. We let the shower dry over night, then caulked it with new silicone caulking. The shower looks great!

My friend was absolutely amazed that we did not need to use chlorine bleach. She said, ‘that Thieves Cleaner is amazing. It works better than 409, Windex, and chlorine bleach. I am going to get some.’

It is exciting to know I can clean anything with Thieves Cleaner and I don’t have to jeopardize my health because of it. Thank you YOUNG LIVING.” ~ Sherry H.

Thieves Household Cleaner® and Essential Oil to Kill Mold in an Older Home

“We recently moved from California to Utah into a home that was built in the 1880′s. It wasn’t until I was deep cleaning that I realized there were some serious mold issues!!

I got some samples, had them tested and there were several strains of molds, common and not-so common. We’d moved to an area that had no other homes available for rent and I was panicked, since I’m extremely sensitive to mold, having been ‘poisoned’ by black mold about 10 years ago. There was nowhere else to go while our home is being built.

I immediately got our my Thieves Cleaner, Thieves Essential Oil, Nebulizer Essential Oil Diffuser, rubber gloves and face mask! I sprayed the Thieves Cleaner straight onto the affected areas and just left it for several hours. I began diffusing Thieves Oil – and did so for the next 48 hours [learn more about how to use these products to get rid of and prevent mold]. In the basement, where there was a lot of mildew and mold, I sprayed a mixture of Thieves Oil, Thieves Cleaner and grain alcohol directly onto the brick walls. Then I left the house to rest.

The next day when I came back, the black mold in the cupboards that had been so unsightly had almost disappeared. I sprayed the affected areas again, soaking liberally, and wiped them down after a few minutes. The mold is gone! In the basement, the same thing had happened. I re-sprayed with my mixture and it is also GONE!

I coaxed the carpet cleaner to use my Thieves Cleaner instead of his citrus stuff (which I have an allergy to!) [citrus cleaners do not have therapeutic-grade essential oils as an ingredient which is why she is allergic to them]. He reluctantly did so and was thrilled and amazed at how clean the carpets were. I was so happy, because they were disinfected, smelled great and are so soft now.

I continue to diffuse Thieves, Purification and Eucalyptus a couple of times a week. The mold issues are gone. I can breathe without any problems. I LOVE THIS STUFF!!” ~ Michelle

Buy Thieves Household Cleaner

I personally have tons of my own testimonials using Thieves Household Cleaner®, this one cleaner actually replaces any type of cleaner I once had in my house. It is the most all-natural and “Green” cleaner I have ever seen and used – I have found it to be superior over all brands. The best part though is the price, the wholesale price is $21.50 (see how to get wholesale pricing, it’s easy and cost efficient, and no you do not have to sell anything if you don’t want to). Replacing every cleaner in my home with Thieves cleaner has absolutely saved me a lot of money, particularly cheaper than buying the natural brands at the store! Here are other ways I’ve made my household cleaning chores all natural using Young Living Essential Oils. I highly recommend starting of with the Start Living with Thieves kit, in this one kit you will have everything you need to make the switch!

"There is nothing in a caterpillar that tells you it's going to be a butterfly." ~ R. Buckminster Fuller

“In preparing for this article, I was not too surprised to see that in the past month over 12,000 people searched  the Internet for answers regarding anxiety, and that was just through one search engine alone! I was told by web “guru’s” that you can safely multiply one major search engines results by four and figure that’s a more accurate estimate of how many people actually do searches for help on a topic. So, in this regard we can assume 48,000 searched the Internet for anxiety answers over the month.  That is allot of anxious people! Frankincense essential oil

In times past, I was one of these anxious people myself. Yesterday, I realized it has been 8 months and counting since my last panic attack (my family and I were stuck on an interstate during a severe thunder/rainstorm/tornado warning last May-that is just cause for a panic attack, right?). Also, I can proclaim that it has been over a year since I suffered from anxiety attacks that had weekly racked my body, mind, and spirit.

Mood swings for many come suddenly and can be very upsetting. When you take a breath, by the time you breath out all of a sudden your mood has changed.  You could have been in a perfectly fine mood, then out of the blue something triggers a change to sadness, anger, worry, disappointment anxiety, or some deep seeded pain.

prozac-people-mood-depressionSo many emotions can be very debilitating, and many may have pills that their doctor may have prescribed because their mood swings are so intense. For many when they are feeling such despair, they may want to be left alone and just ride it out.  It can be difficult when one is feeling this way to even care about anything, anyone and especially not caring about themselves. Trying to figure out why the feeling is there is not easy to understand and at the time, you don’t really care, you just feel like “cr.. “.

Could it be diet that has triggered the mood swing? Like sugar. Or perhaps the environment you are in, or the people you were with.  Sometimes people can bring us down and they can zap us or drain us of our energy.  I think if we are able to take a few seconds or moments and think about what just happened that this may help. The next step is to reach for something natural to help take the edge off of the “blahs, anger, sadness, etc.”

Therapeutic grade essential oils are helpful for balancing energy. Notice how I am saying therapeutic grade essential oils. They are much different then perfume grade essential oils and understanding the difference is an important part of using essential oils for natural healing.  Please read more on quality of essential oils.

Essential oils carry the “life force” of the plant and this “life force” can help our “life force”.

Lavender therapeutic grade essential oil is a calming and uplifting essential oil and has many, many other beneficial qualities. It is called the “Swiss Army Knife” of essential oils, or the “Duct Tape”, because of its magnitude of healing.

Lavender would be an excellent essential oil to have on hand to help in balancing of mood swings. The simplest way of using it is, open the bottle and take several deep breaths. Also put a drop on your wrist and smell it. Pay attention to the change in your energy and mood. I’ll bet you will notice a change.  Plus it could come in handy for cuts or burns.

If you often have mood swings you might want to seek out an energy healer, such as Reiki. So far for me Reiki has been the best stress reduction technique that I have experienced from energy healers.  However not too many of us have the luxury of receiving such treats on a regular basis, so essential oils is the best way to go.

Young Living has many emotional blends that may help one through many emotions release situations. I am going to list many of them and as you will see, just by their name, they may be beneficial for a wide range of emotional healing.
