When we are in despair, experiencing difficult changes in our lives or in times of uncertainty as to the direction our life is going, all these feelings can be very difficult to turn around to feel better, spiritually, mentally and physically. We can even become ill due to this state of mind.

If one is able to apply meditation practices in their life, this could be a very positive change and could help to turn ones life around. Implementing meditation and combining Sandalwood could very possibly be the key to make this positive change.

One of the oldest incense materials, Sandalwood has been in use for at least 4,000 years. Sandalwood is considered in alternative medicine to bring one closer to the divine. The scent of Sandalwood is believed to transform one’s desires and maintain a person’s alertness while in meditation.

Sandalwood (Santalum album) has a rich, sweet, warm, and woody aroma that is sensual and romantic. Used traditionally as incense in religious ceremonies and for meditation, it is uplifting and relaxing. It is valued in skin care for its moisturizing and normalizing properties.

Sandalwood has been used for centuries in Ayurvedic medicine for skin revitaliztion, yoga, and meditation. Listed in Dioscorides’ De Materia Medica (A.D. 78), Europe’s first authoritive guide to medicines, that became the standard reference work for herbal treatments for over 1,700 years. Recent research at Brigham Young University documented its ability to inhibit many types of cancerous cells.

sandalwood-1Fragrant Influence: Enhances deep sleep, may help remove negative programming from the cells.  It is high in sespuiterpenes that stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic region of the brain, the center of emotions.  The pineal gland is responsible for releasing melatonin, a powerful immune stimulant and antitumoral agent.  Sandalwood can be grounding and stabilizing.

Young Living distills Sandalwood from the heartwood of the sandalwood tree, and is believed to enhance sleep and ground the mind during stressful times.*  Diffusing this romantic oil can be an excellent way to indulge yourself or a loved one.

How to use: Apply 2-4 drops on the root chakra, crown chakra, heart chakra and throat chakra.  After applying, cup hands over the nose (without touching skin or eyes) and inhale deeply 2-3 times.

Diffusing: Put 10-20 drops of Sandalwood in your Young Living diffuser, diffuse for 30-60 minutes twice a day (morning and evening)

Be open to the possibility of emotional healing by meditating or in prayer and utilize the therapeutic properties of Sandalwood while you are taking the time to meditate or pray. This only takes but a few minutes out of your hectic lifestyle and could very well be one of the best alternative therapies that you could do for yourself. And by doing this for yourself, the people in your life will benefit, because you are feeling better and that will be better  for everyone in your life.
