true-sourceWe have been lead to believe that vitamins and minerals are a necessary proponent to good health, and this is very true. There is a catch though, a catch that until recent years has been largely unnoticed by a vast majority of the population . In order for vitamins and minerals to benefit the body in any way, shape or form, they must be assimilated by the body. In other words, they must be in a usable form.  In 1993 a federal research study of 11,000 Americans discovered that ordinary vitamin takers did not live longer nor did they have fewer cancers than non-vitamin takers. The following quote explains one reason this may be;

“90% of most supplements are lost in body waste eliminated. In other words, literally 90% of most dietary supplements are flushed down the toilet as they are not assimilated by the body.” Nutritional Supplement Bible.com

As vitamins are unveiled, one word suffices to accurately describe the catch. Quality. Quality is the catch, and the key. Almost all vitamins are synthetically, factory created, but the problem is that man simply cannot compete with nature. Research is mounting up left and right that the best sources of vitamins are from whole foods. Rose hips, for example have been found to be more effective then synthetic vitamin C. A well rounded diet, for another example, including adequate intake of all food groups has been found to be often times more beneficial then taking vitamins.

The problem is so much of our food is not nearly as nourishing as it used to be due to conventional farming methods. Also, many people cannot eat as nutritious as they would like due to their jobs or for other reasons. Pregnant women, nursing mothers, people that are injured or ill, growing children, and others will quickly become malnourished as will the average person without some extra help. The Journal of American Medical Association made the statement in 2002 that:

“Most people do not consume an optimal amount of all vitamins by diet alone. It appears prudent for all adults to take a multivitamin supplement”

I strongly believe the solution to the vitamin problem lies in whole food supplements. Dr. Mercola says,

“Please don’t make the mistake of shopping for supplements at discount stores or large chains like Wal-Mart or Walgreen’s. In my opinion, these are classic examples of companies that primarily use cheap synthetic supplements.

Synthetic alternatives to whole foods are known as “isolates”. Your body will only absorb a small percentage of an isolate form of vitamins and minerals — and utilize even less (Your body absorbs much more of the whole food form.) On top of that, there may be side effects, depending on the quality of the isolate.”

Whole food supplements are made of concentrated food, and I have been amazed at the difference between whole food supplements verses regular supplements in my own life. With the pregnancy of my first child, I took a regular, prenatal vitamin. With my second I took a high quality whole food prenatal vitamin. The difference was astounding. There was less sickness with the second pregnancy, and more energy. But I would have to say the most convincing part was the health of the two babies. My whole food baby was so much fruit-cooking-foodhealthier then my regular vitamin baby.

I highly recommend Young Living’s whole food supplement True Source. It is jam packed with more then adequate amounts of vitamins even for pregnant women-with the exception of iron (pregnant women may need to take an extra source of iron in addition since iron needs during pregnancy are greater). In addition to this, True Source also contains powerful antioxidant sources as well as ingredients that may help support the immune system. I personally notice more energy when I am taking it, and greater overall health. What makes it even more appealing, especially in this day’s economy, is if you enroll as distributor you will qualify to get it (as well as all of Young Livings professional quality products) for a better price then you will most whole food supplements on the market nowadays. By enrolling as a distributor you are not required to sell the products nor purchase products monthly. Young Living even provides a yummy, chewable whole food supplement for children called Kidscents Mightyvites.

    Hi Kayo,
    Yes, but as always check with your OBGYN to confirm as there may be other things going on that they know about.
