It has been taught by many health authorities that the liver is one of the body’s ways of shielding itself against disease. True enough, although the liver has more then one important function, one of these vital functions involves filtering the blood. Although the blood does (or, according to the Merck Manual is supposed to) neutralize unwanted pathogens of all kinds as well as other waste matters, these waste matters are then taken to Liver, which also processes bacteria and foreign particles absorbed by the intestines. It is then the livers job to deliver the waste to the gall bladder, and from there the waste is eliminated through the digestive tract. The problem is today, so many people’s livers and gallbladders are not doing what they are supposed to, and what they were designed to do.

There can be many reasons the liver isn’t doing it’s job anymore. In many cases, it my be because of constipation. If a person is constipated then the liver has nowhere to “dump” and a backing up process begins. The liver can also become sluggish due to poor lifestyle choices; fried foods, alcohol, white flour products, sugar, and junk food are all very hard on the liver. Other things that are hard on the liver include birth control, drugs (street and prescription), as well as insecticide, pesticide and other poisons such as working with mineral spirits and paint fumes. Some symptoms of a sluggish liver may include the following;

  • Skin problems such as acne, oily skin  rashes, psoriasis and eczema
  • Upper and lower excessive flatulence (gas)
  • Digestive disorders such as, heartburn, acid reflux, bloating after eating
  • Bad breath
  • Overweight, inability to lose weight, and sluggish metabolism
  • High cholesterol
  • High blood pressure
  • Frequent migraines/headaches
  • Skin blemishes, warts, moles, and discolorations
  • Coating on the tongue after going without food for awhile
  • Constipation, diarrhea, Irritable Bowel Syndrome
  • Allergies to foods and chemicals; environmental sensitivity and chemical intolerance
  • Sugar cravings
  • Excessive alcohol intake
  • Itching
  • Excessive body heat;
  • Poor protein digestion/utilization
  • Depression, bad moods, angry moods, mood swings including bi-polar disorder
  • Liver cancer
  • Gall stones and gallbladder disorders
  • Diminished eyesight
  • Recurring colds, fevers and mucus
  • Poor or “foggy” memory
  • Mental fatigue
  • Pre-mature aging and graying
  • Fatigue
  • Hormonal imbalance,  low sex drive, impotence
  • Sleep disorders, including  insomnia
  • Fatty liver
  • Low immune response or overburdened immune system

Health authorities suggest frequent liver cleansing for overall health andjuva-cleanse well being. There are a few good liver flushes to be found such as this one found on eHow. This flush looks wonderful and worth a try, however I would include Young Livings JuvaTone and Juva Flex with it for their liver support benefit.  I have experienced positive  results (what are commonly called “gallstones” in the stool) by incorporating JuvaTone and JuvaFlex with a couple tablespoons of olive oil three times a day during Dr. Christophers 3 day cleanse. The essential oils used in these products have been found beneficial for to normal liver function, and essential oils in general have been shown in clinical studies conducted by Dr. Gary Young to help digest undigested food particles such as undigested fats and proteins in the blood. For liver cleansing purposes, apple juice is usually suggested as it contains malic acid which is said to break up adhesion’s and solid particles in the liver/gallbladder. Carrot juice may be another good choice as it too has been said by health authorities to be highly beneficial for the liver.  Note; It is extremely important that the colon is clean before attempting a liver flush, otherwise the liver will try to unload and not being able to accomplish this due to a backed up colon,  a “backfire” effect can occur and make a person feel very, very sick.
